I contacted Mr. Patton to ask some questions about an order I felt uneasy about. After meeting with Mr. Patton I felt better about a situation that could have been ugly. I could tell he genuinely cared and showed an honest concern. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Mr. Patton.

When my husband and I learned of his ex-wife's habit of doing drugs in front of their children we were horrified and had no idea what to do. On the recommendation of a friend we contacted Earl who took a heartfelt approach to our case and helped us immensely. He was very honest and straightforward and it was clear that he really cared about us and the well-being of our children. It was very long but very rewarding, in June of 2017 I adopted my step-children and they will never again be exposed to drugs and domestic violence as they were in their biological mothers homes, plural as she was constantly living with different men. We have Earl Patton solely to thank for that and nothing I could ever do could show how grateful I am for that. I 100% recommend Earl for any situation you may have, it is clear that he is in it to help you out and not just to demolish your bank account as I have come across with other lawyers. Earl is a wonderful honest man, one in a million for sure.

The best attorney I have hired. When Nina and I had our first consultation, I was almost in a panic worrying about my wife. After a two session, it did not take me long to figure out this lady had all the answers I needed to know. As soon as I hired her, She went full steam ahead to explain how we were going to approach each problem. She would point me in the right direction so as to gather information which would satisfy each item we had to cover. Sadly my wife passed and I thought that was the end of my relationship with Nina. Was I ever wrong. It was as if Nina went into overdrive. She then started to explain to me how to protect my assets for my future and for my children. Now that was something I did not expect. She never let me down. If I did not understand something, she was always available by phone or e-mail. In all my life, I have never had a lawyer like her, She cares about her clients. Simply the best.

Had an appointment with Christi Hale today at 2:30 pm. I made it 3 weeks after meeting with her in her office. When I arrived at her office today I was met by another attorney and was informed that Christi was busy and he would be taking care of me. I did not know him and he had no clue why I was there and I had to explain my situation all over again. He charged me $50 and did nothing. They should have called me to let me know that she could not see me today and given me the option of making another appointment. Very poor office practices. Will never recommend them to anyone and will never go back.

We met with Tiffany just after my mother-in-law died and gave her all of the information needed for her estate, as well as conservatorship of my minor, disabled sister-in-law. The paperwork was not done correctly and required additional hearings which cost more money. There was little to no communication and no clear communication for sure. She could not even give us a statement of what had been paid and what hours she worked on our cases when we requested that. Her secretaries are incredibly rude, especially Ms. Willson. We have had multiple court dates and deadlines that we knew nothing about. Court times were changed with very little warning that caused a huge amount of upheaval for our family. Overall, the worst experience I have had with an attorney. I'm filing a complaint with the Bar Association this afternoon because I'm certain that she has not used all of our retainer. Horrible experience.

Mrs. Davis did not return phone calls, did not respond to emails, spent most of the time she should have been listening about my case talking about her own personal affairs, she poorly presented my case in court, and even though I presented her with way more than enough evidence to prove my case, she presented it in such a manner that we lost horribly. I wouldn't even hire her for something as simple as notarizing a letter from this point forward.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
