I reached out to Raposa Law and spoke to an individual named Kit Ericson. I came to Kit vulnerable and worn down from attempting to reach my child for multiple years with no results, hoping he would be the answer to this continuous hell I’ve experienced. Unfortunately, he wasn’t. Kit didn’t pay much attention to what I said and wasn’t sympathetic to my plight. Later, my partner reached out to Kit to see if there were any sort of qualities or requirements he looks for when taking on a case (once again we need the help). However, Kit was rude and suggested my spouse inquiring about qualifications needed had forced him to rule out representation. His etiquette was the opposite of what his site suggests. I just want to provide all of you with a genuine and honest account of what transpired and the kind of lawyer he is.

They listened carefully to me about my case. They represented me very well in court and we won! They were reasonably priced and knew very well what they were doing! I would highly recommed them and I would definitely use them and their services again!

I appreciate the follow up from the firm. I thought I had a bigger issue than I did and was surprised to receive a call that explained the issues along with a quick a easy resolution. I wish it didn't take what it took to get here but I'm grateful for a team that is willing to stand behind their product and make it right as soon as they know its not working for the client.

I can’t express the frustration that I’ve experienced with this firm. I basically was explained today that I wasn’t well represented by API law. My child support modification was approved for trial in April, but my attorney did not get a trial date set. I was told “ That the court was really backed up. “ He filed an action late and now it’s costing me a large amount of garnishment after I retired at the end of last year. I was not well represented by this firm. I have a hard time recommend this attorney for family matters.

Blair Jackson is absolutely great. He really goes above and beyond. When my business was stolen from me, Blair really worked with my wife and I. He constantly kept us in the loop with everything that was going on. Hopefully you don't need an Arbitration Attorney, but if you do, definitely go with Blair Jackson. Even though this has been a difficult situation for us, Blair and his team did everything they could and constantly went above and beyond for us. I wish I could give ten stars.

Chad and the team at Tycksen & Shattuck saved the day for our family in a construction issue. We had worked with a builder who didn't fulfill their responsibilities including paying for materials and subcontractors. When the subcontractors came after us for payment, Chad was able to quickly and effectively protect us from having to double pay those bills (once to the builder and again to the suppliers/subs directly) despite unexpected complexity with our contract. Everyone in their office was great to work with and always made us feel supported. They were strong advisors through the process letting us know what we could expect and what we could do to further recuperate from the builder's failure to perform.

Believe the one star reviews - negative reviews clearly get attacked here and I was pre-warned of that by the British-accent assistant when I asked for a refund and wanted to take my business elsewhere. The assistant charged me $75 for a consultation fee and I got rescheduled FOUR times in less than 72 hours for the same appointment. There was always an excuse of how Emy had some crisis going on, but never any compassion or understanding that clients are going through their own crises and require timely service. After requesting for a refund multiple times, I was threatened by the assistant with “don’t even think about posting a negative review about this.” The rude and disrespectful communication from Emy’s assistant speaks volumes to the type of lawyer I would have been working with. So grateful I didn’t pay the retainer and sign on with her. Definitely dodged a bullet.

They don’t care about their customers. To save you a headache avoid Arcadia law firm!

Chad was extremely helpful in my case and went above and beyond what I expected. He was timely in his communication and made me feel like I was his only client. I recommended him to some friends who were in the same situation as me and he has done so much for both of us! He was very great to work with and very knowledgeable.

Please read this before hiring Chad Shattuck or his firm to represent you. I am a former client of Chad’s and I am only writing this review after trying multiple times to resolve my concerns with him and his law firm. Their unwillingness to stand by their work and make things right has been very disappointing and makes what would have been a 2 or 3-star review (or no review at all) a definite 1-star review. While he was representing me, Chad was okay to work with and I didn’t have too many complaints, but after my divorce went through, I discovered critical mistakes were made in my divorce paperwork relating to retirement account division that led to an unexpected tax loss of $3,700. In speaking with other attorneys, the penalty could have been avoided if Chad understood basic retirement account division in divorce, had advised me appropriately, and drafted my paperwork correctly. As a new single mom, having to come up with thousands of dollars I was not planning on was financially painful to me and my kids at an already stressful time. When I contacted Chad and pointed out the problem, he was dismissive and initially told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. When I pursued the issue and pointed him to the specific things that he had not done correctly, he changed his position and told me he had never advised me to do it that way. When given proof that he did in fact advise me incorrectly, he stopped responding to me. I understand everyone makes mistakes. What upset me most was that when I respectfully brought the mistakes to his and his law firm’s attention, instead of looking into the issue and trying to make it right, they have done everything possible to avoid responsibility for the mistakes made. This has been extremely disappointing because when you pay a professional like Chad thousands of dollars for their expertise and advice in order to have things done correctly, there is a certain level of expectation that when mistakes are made, they will stand by their work and make things right, and this has simply not happened. Avoid them if you can!

Celia is an incredible guardian ad litem. She is solely focused on the child’s well being. So don’t think you can get her to side with you and don’t worry that she will side with the other parent. She does what is right. Period. She has a strong reputation in court and for good reason. She is a careful and clear communicator in court. You would be lucky to have her helping your child.

So when I went in for a consultation he told me everything that I wanted to hear. However, it turned out that he knew the father of my now ex-wife and was more concerned with staying on his good side than doing his job that he gave in to most everything. Also, he charged me for any time that he spoke to my ex's father and would charge me for almost an hour to read and respond to an email from him. I trusted that he would do the job he was getting paid for and he kept assuring me that he "had my back" so I didn't fully see what was happening (with going through a divorce that I didn't want I was a little distracted). Should have fired him and found someone else before my divorce was finalized, but didn't realize what was happening until it was too late. Basically I feel like I paid a lawyer to represent my ex and her father. Told me after everything was done that he "did things in a different way with my divorce" and that he "took things in a more spiritual manner" while representing me. I just wanted everything to be fair for both me and my ex, but with him it didn't turn out that way. My ex's father has some high callings in the LDS church and Mr. Tycksen was more concerned about making him happy and staying on his good side than he was about his client that was paying him for his services. I would not use him ever again. Also, he doubled up on his time on multiple occasions where he would be on the clock for me and would be working on other cases. Not an honest lawyer that I would recommend. Go find someone else.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
