Spend a lot of money for her to side with my ex-husband. Went to mediation in 2012 and when I let her go in 2013 the notes from mediation was never signed by a judge. So my ex-husband was not paying the new child support. The lawyer never kept me informed. I had to call and ask what was happening to my case. With her for over 3 years and nothing was done.

I hired Paula around seven years ago. I have re-hired her regularly since then because she is phenomenal. She knows Texas Family Law like the back of her hand. Paula guided me through my legal issues, and I trusted her advice. I wholeheartedly believe she is the reason my family is intact. We are in a happier place, and we are very thankful for her expert help.

Paula Thomas is a danger to the families of El Paso. She will sign a contract and take payment with no intention of representing her clients. She has called me when she thinks she is calling the other party (who she does not represent) and show her deceitful side. She is uninterested in the facts of a case and is fighting a personal vendetta. When she gets caught in lies, she runs and becomes really awful. Stay away from this woman. She will say something to your face and pretend she is representing you and then sabotage you behind your back because she has a mess of a personal life that she’s litigating through her clients lives. Stay away from this mental health mess.

Mr. Macias was my court appointed attorney. He did offer me a plea deal buy I insisted I was innocent because I was so he took the time to do his research, build up an excellent case, he really put in the work and was able to prove me innocent to the jury. So grateful its all behind me and that Mr. Macias believed in me.

Very bad!!! he just rushed through everything and just pushed it through the courts. He never took the time to fight for my son's case and show all the evidence that would have cleared him or at least help him. He had us pay money that was from an old case that he wasn't even on and said that it was for the new charges he had. We paid because he said it was going towards the new charges and it would help. He lied. Do not waste your time hiring him.

After I paid in a timely manner, I was ignored and dropped from his caseload. Then a unexpected warrant was put out for my arrest, 2 times for the same case in my case...because he won't make my appearances or notify me that i even have one...now I'm worse off than when I hired him.now I have to pay for the warent and a new layer to start from scratch. its been almost 1 year without contact not even a secretary call back, now that Hug left I don't think he has one. To bad I liked the guy and used him before on a previous case, with only minor communication problems.

I hired Driscoll and Hug a few years ago to work on my DWI case. I was a first time offender and I was scared. I felt comfortable discussing the case with them and felt like they were on my side. But once money was exchanged, that's when I stopped hearing any real updates. I notified them that I was leaving the state for a fellowship about 6 months after my arrest. I asked if this was ok with the court. I was told it was. But after I left TX, the communication got even worse. In fact, they even stopped appearing for me and apparently dropped me as a client without informing me or the court. I found out about 7 months later that the court actually issued a warrant for me. When I called many times to inquire about the situation, the only people I could talk to were secretaries. No calls were returned. So, they made my situation even worse. I cannot stress enough to not hire their firm. They are completely unresponsive and apparently take on far too many cases. I will be filing an misconduct complaint with the State Bar of TX. That's how serious all this is.

Patricia Chew handled my husband's immigration case. She said his case was no problem and she knew exactly what to do. We paid her and she filed the papers for him. 18 months later all the immigration applications she filed for him were denied. She said that immigration agents in Chicago (which is where we filed) just didn't know what they were doing and she said her attorney friend Donald Kempster in Chicago would take over our case. She sent my husbands file to Attorney Kempster. We met with Attorney Kempster and he said that he couldn't believe Chew had done this and that there was no other outcome other than my husband would be deported. Patricia Chew wouldn't accept my calls after that. My husband was picked up by agents a few months later and deported. I never got any money back from Patricia Chew. And guess what... now she's a JUDGE in El Paso TX.

My case was an application for an H1B visa (temporary work and residence). In our first meeting, Ms. Chew seemed very self-confident and assured everything would be very easy and fast. She was paid for the whole process in advance. Seven months later I still did not have my visa. She did nothing about it for three months and when she finally did it, my application was full of mistakes. Because of those mistakes, I had to leave the country twice and I still can not work. Finally we changed to a new lawyer.

I hired Mr. Smith to represent me in my NON- Contested Divorce, he didn’t have to do anything but show up and handle the paperwork because my ex husband and I had come to an agreement on everything.. this wanna be lawyer couldn’t even handle not having much to do! He wouldn’t return phone calls, emails , and his staff is no better. On the day of my court hearing, the judge stated she was missing paperwork that was supposed to be submitted by his office. When this poor excuse of an office finally did get the paperwork to the judge it was scanned in upside down, my embarrassment was noticeable. After the divorce his office was supposed to submit the paperwork so I could receive my portion of what was agreed upon regarding my settlement and nothing has been done, they submitted the forms once and it wasn’t dated so I have to wait all over again. I have been trying to contact this office and no one answers, no one returns phone calls and NO ONE COMMUNICATES! I hate that I didn’t read the reviews on this firm before going through and hiring him so STAY AWAY FROM THIS FIRM PLEASE there are plenty of competent lawyers out there and he is not one of them.

Absolutely do NOT use this Law Office. The Law Office of Douglas C. Smith had me invest thousands as a retainer in February, and has had poor communication with me and absolutely zero communication with the Oklahoma court my case originated out of. I entrusted Mr. Smith with the safety and future of my children, as well as my peace of mind. According to the El Paso County website, my case was set for dismissal at 0830 this morning due to lack of movement. If you want an attorney who cares and invests the time and energy into your case, he is not it. I am absolutely floored that this happened.

Going through a legal matter can and will be stressful and frustrating. However, Mr. Smith and his staff helped make this process easier with their professionalism and knowledge of legal matters. Although I wanted the matter over and done with, I had to understand that some elements were out of their control. The court and legal system is long and tedious, making it hard for any legal office to schedule hearings or file paperwork in a timely manner. Circumstances may be out of their control. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Mr. Smith and his staff for my successful outcome.

I hired Maria for my divorce it took her 10 months to get the temporary orders. The only thing she knows very well is TO CHARGE. She charged me a ton of money overinflating the times spent on my case. Never call to update me on the case. Months with out doing nothing. She will make decisions without consulting me. She drags the case as much as she can to spend more time and charge more. Very Disrespectful (even with the judge) she does not talk she screams.

I don't recommended this lawyer, such a horrible bad experience with the lawyer and her staff, she is all about money, she took long for an easy case with all the people involved in the case agree with everything, and the charge me even if the housekeeping lady see my papers, I never got to see her in person she will miss her appointments with me and never apologized, but they charged me for the appointment, the staff is the worse lied so much and it was always miss information between them, when finally the case was closed I had an appointment witch I missed due to my job, so I called next day left a message and I called again they didn't answer, they never returned my call, when I called again to make Another appointment for my final questions they told me that I have to pay again for a new consulting because supposedly I passed 30 days, I told them that I been calling before the 30 day but they never answered my call. Very rude people, they treated me like I was asking to do the job for free till one day I told them that I will not pay one more penny and that I want my case to be done and of course what happened after they close the case already explained before. The staff and lawyer they don't know what the doing they just want your money.

Don't hire this attorney!! Paid her $7200 and never finished my case. If she worked on my case instead of billing me we would have finished. All I wanted was some rights to my grandchild whom I have raised since she was born (14 years). Never called me back, didn't even know who I was in the courthouse hall. I went to make payment arrangements and the following week she withdrew from the case (I had to pay for that also). Several discrepancies in the paperwork, all in favor of the other parent but wanted me to pay for her mistakes. To this day I have not gotten any documents from her. Almost two years. SHE'S ALL ABOUT MONEY! Very cold and uncaring.

Mr. Parra solicited me by U.S. mail. Following our first telephonic interview, I sent him all of the money he asked for in order for him to take my case. He had the case 2 1/2 months and did not do anything. When I tried to reach him, he was unavailable. I received a notice to appear before the court for a hearing and he did not show up. When I called to ask him about it, he became upset and hung up on me. When he asked to be withdrawn, he couldn't answer the judge's question as to what he done on my case since he was hired. We've had an issue with a neighbor and I hired Mr. Darnell for a letter stating we had rights to access a community area - it's been about 2 years and I kept asking, "can I have a letter?", he wanted me to sue the neighbor which would be additional fees, attorney fees etc.. I can't afford that and just needed to show legal rights to access the area. I finally gave up and fired him - and then he sent me a letter back dated to October 2022. Why not just do what I asked in the first place? This isn't right. And then he said he'd refund my money, and now it's been a month and no refund, no replies... not dependable in my personal opinion.

I had a criminal case pending and hired Eric Darnell in December 2016. He never gave me or my mother any paperwork for hiring him and what it would cost. He was paid $5000 and did not do anything other than show up in court in April 2017. He would not return my phone calls nor address questions that I had. He asked for a statement of events from me which I provided him four days after he was hired. When we met him for the first time on April 20 in court, he stated that I didn't give him exactly what he asked for as far as my statement. He had over 3 1/2 months to tell me this, yet he brings this to my attention 30 minutes before court. He was extremely rude to me when I met him and to my family. Nothing happened other than the court date being pushed back for another two months, yet by the time we got home seven hours later, he had already sent another email asking for even more money. Not a single thing had he done for us other than show up in court. I dropped him as my attorney and had to hire an attorney that was more knowledgeable and professional. When he was given notification that he was no longer my attorney, he refused to answer phone calls from my new attorneys office and when my attorney ran into him in the courthouse elevator Eric Darnell had very unprofessional words with him. Needless to say, it was shocking that a "professional" would act like this.

I hired Eric Darnell - Attorney For a criminal case. When asked if he handled criminal cases he said that he did…he does not and we were not familiar with finding the correct type of attorney at that time. Extremely hard to get a hold of and would not return phone calls. Kept asking for more money and hadn't done a single thing. He did not answer specific questions that were asked regarding the case. Dodged every question asked. Did not tell the truth regarding his filings and stated in emails that he had filed certain motions, which in fact he did not do. We ended up hiring a much more professional attorney that answered every email or phone call. I would never recommend Eric Darnell - to ANYBODY.

Avoid this attorney. He should be disbarred from practicing law. Charged my former brother-in-law a flat rate, thousands, and did absolutely nothing! From what I’ve been able to research flat-rate attorneys don’t have to prove the work they are doing. Whereas an attorney that charges by the hour has to provide the client with an itemized list of the work they are doing and what they are charging.

Did my paperwork incorrectly and attempted to charge me for the correction. He filed with the court an order appointing my son as his own father and changing his name to the wrong name. Then when I asked him to change it quoted me $2k. His secretary yelled at me for questioning that charge. Is that ethical or legal? Get it right with a better lawyer who can read and spell.

Unethical. He made an error on a court order. It states that my son is his own father. When I asked to help change it and even offered to pay the court filing, he requires his retainer. $2500. I wonder if this is a business. Make an error and funnel more money from people? Good idea in theory but save your money and find someone to do it correctly the first time.

Mr. Philip Mullin was legally retained and paid $21K to represent myself and my family. However, the day before our trial, Mr. Mullin advised us that he failed to file any motions on my family’s behalf and, as a result, we lost our case on a technicality. In other words, since Mullin missed the court's deadline to file his legal documents on my family’s behalf, we lost automatically and never had the opportunity to present our case to the presiding judge.. Afterwards, I discussed a reasonable refund with Mr. Mullin, but he laughed at me and told me, “No way, I'm giving you a dime back!" And also stated, "I’m sorry, but time just got away from me.” This was my family’s experience with attorney Philip Mullin of El Paso, Texas. Beware.

I first used Mr. Mullin as my divorce lawyer 12 years ago. He went against a State Senator and did very well! I chose to retain Mr. Mullin on a yearly basis regardless if I needed him. He is a very good lawyer. He has assisted my family and has continued to fight for my children when any issues would arise. Mr. Mullin assisted me greatly when I had issues with my former employer. He was very well prepared, and won our case which was quite lengthy. It was not an easy case, but he was very knowledgeable in the area of labor laws. Mr. Mullin reassured me that everything would be fine and he was right. He is a very professional and well versed lawyer with many years of experience. His small family law firm went head to head against one of the biggest law firms in El Paso, and has won! It took several months, but beleive me Mr. Mullin knows what he is doing. He recently completed a child support issue, and although it takes him a little bit to get around, he managed to recover quite a bit child support due to an increase. Once again Mr. Mullin went against a large law firm in San Antonio and was very successful. Mr. Mullin has instilled hope to both of my children (who are now young adults) and in me. The bottom line is that he cares about his clients. I know that I have used Mr. Mullins services many times and I truly appreciate his fighting for justice! Thank you Mr. Mullin and Azalea for all that you have done for my family over the years. We are grateful.

Does not communicate With anybody until the day you see him in court. Do you only lawyer I have ever met that harasses people that have nothing to do with the case whatsoever just out of pure spite . Mr. Nevarrez was hired by me to represent the estate of my mother, in november of 2017. He had me file a civil suit in texas on property she owned as well as change the probate from new mexico to texas. Countless emails and phone calls were made to both Mr. Nevarrez and his paralegal. These calls were unreturned and emails unaswered. The only time it seems I was able to get a hold of him was when I needed to pay him money. We went to court in June of 2018 where he could not even remember the case or the people involved when he got before the 3rd judicial court. the judge was so angry at our unpreparedness that he put a $500,000.00 bond on me as executor and would not honor the civil suit or texas probate change because he said Nevarrez should have known that my mother died in new mexico therefore everything would have to be handled in new mexico. When he filed the civil suit he gave the respondents 30 days to respond , they did not, and called him repeatedly to see what the next step was , he would not return my calls. The last step was when he did not produce the judges orders. I was forced to fire him and hire another attorney.I have asked for my records back since July 29th. I have also asked for a return of at least half of the $11000.00 I paid him , to no avail.

I hired this attorney for my divorce and everything went well. Therefore; I took him a citation that was given to me the year after (2007). He told me everything was good and the ticket had been dismissed. Two weeks ago I went to renew my license plates and they tell me that I can't renew since I have a pending citation from 2007. It ended up being that the court allowed me to do defensive driving and he never notified me. Now I have a balance of almost $170. I went to his office and talked to his assistant and said they would take care of it and notify me when I could go get my plates. That never happened. I have been calling them everyday and leaving messages and they don't even answer the phone. Definetely not a good service!

I understand that she is using her mother's coat tail to establish her clients, but I was very disappointed that I could not get thru past the receptionist. I paid the consultation fee, only to find out what I already knew. Fees are extremely expensive. Comparing this to a really good pair of leather shoes. You know they are good, and will last a long time, but then you see the same pair with a label and you end up paying five times more. If you have the money upfront they will talk to you, but you might be stuck with a pair of over priced leather shoes that pinch more than just your pocket. I was ready to hire the team, but I could not talk to anybody without money. I wanted to pay another $1000, and even then I couldn't speak to anybody. I knew that I wasn't going to be guaranteed a win win case, but I needed answers to some of my painful needs. My desperate actions led me to a different attorney who did answer all my questions. I lost my $250.00 consulting fee.

My experience with this attorney was nothing short of a nightmare. This was the second attorney assigned to me from the ambulance chasing Alex Hernandez law firm and he did nothing but lie and ghost, just as the first attorney assigned to me, Rene Zarazua did. Memorize these names and do not use them. Unless you want to just give them your hard earned money and have them do nothing but lie and ghost you. David Leffman was assigned to me after Rene Zarazua lied and ghosted me. I received a fake apology for my experience with Rene and was assigned David Leffman. The first thing he did was lie and say, “I get things done, I will have answers for you within 24 - 48 hours.” That was back in December. I had to write the firm and accuse them if handing me another do nothing ghosting attorney, to which he rapidly called me and lied saying that he had sent me an email with a demand letter. I said, no I received nothing. I am ready to have my computer forensically studied to prove that he is a liar, as I believe he never sent me a letter. So he said, I will resend it and change the supposed dates. Then another month goes by after this supposed letter was sent, to which I send him another email and ask if he has heard anything back from this supposed letter he had claimed to send a month earlier. Nothing but crickets, so I email him, and CC’d Alex Hernandez, and another attorney that had told me earlier, apologetically that my case was being escalated, Dale Slade (Don’t use this liar, Dale Slade either) to inquire why the ghosting again, only to find Alex Hernandez has blocked me, but Dale Slade and David Leffman got my emails, but chose to ghost me. This was not a terribly difficult case, could’ve been solved with a simple letter, but this firm is excellent at taking your money and disappearing and becoming impossible to reach by phone or email. They have a great PR firm that answers the phone sympathetically, but that is all they are as the attorney’s will never get back to you. Even when they say they have marked the message URGENT. I am reporting the Alex Hernandez firm, mr Zarazua and mr Leffman to the Texas bar association as well as the IRS, there is major misappropriations of funds here going on here. And judging by the yelp reviews where they have a generous 1 star rating, this is their MO, take your money, lie and ghost you. I want my money back from this attorney and the do nothing firm. Maybe it’s time for a class action law suit? At any rate, save your money, and don’t use them. The only time they do anything aggressively is relentlessly pursue you for your business, then lie and ghost you.

hired this attorney because I was innocent and needed help. First off this attorney can not hear a THING! How's that going to work for you while you are at trial?? He is NOT a trial attorney, if you are willing to take a deal, then go for it. He is a big judge ASS kisser! He is afraid of the judge I had and made it clear! He lied to me about the "deal" I was offered, I found this out only after I hired a different attorney. If you want to go to trial forget this guy at all costs. Horrible experience!

I hired Mr. Brown for a modification/enforcement case and had him on my case for ~2 yrs. The father in my case had been repeatedly and continuously breaking the court order and not allowing possession time with our son because he either 'forgot' or 'wanted to sleep in' or blah blah blah. During what was supposed to be a 2 day trial, Mr. Brown pressured me to settle and agree to terms that I was not comfortable with. He neglected to bring up very important evidence in my case that was submitted to the court during a discovery process (evidence that was against the opposing party) and seemed very disorganized during the trial fumbling through papers, taking very long periods of pause and appearing as if he had no clue what he was going to say next. In my opinion, he knew exactly what he was doing since he had 2 yrs to get to know my case and we prepared for the trial the entire weekend prior. There was submitted evidence of a car accident with my ~6 y/o child and his father on a holiday weekend night at ~1AM where he ran over the median onto incoming traffic lane and hit a boulder and his car was totaled-evidence that questioned possible drunk driving with our child. I was not notified of this car accident and father refused to allow medical treatment of our child despite paramedics advising him to and it was notated on the police report. Mr. Brown did not bring this incident to the attention of the judge and quickly changed the subject during questioning. I became highly suspicious of Mr. Brown's motives. In my opinion, he was not working for me. Mr. Brown also negatively impacted my case as he ignored my numerous emails re: my request for a motion for new trial and I was allowed a certain number of days before my case would not be able to be heard anymore. Well guess what? Mr. Brown waited until <1 week left for the deadline to end and he left me with no time to find other counsel and thus my case was no longer able to be heard in the court. Know why this happened? Because all the evidence submitted against opposing party would no longer be able to be brought up in subsequent motions/trials. The intent was to 'erase history' and erase the violations that the opposing party had committed. Mr. Brown's actions are unethical and immoral. I cannot possibly express my utmost disappointment in this attorney. So many red flags! In my opinion, he has also enabled an abuser to continue with the repetetive abusive and alienating tendencies. And who suffers? My innocent child.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?
