I have used Ken for a number of matters and without fail, things moved smoothly and easily. I was satisfied enough that I have referred several friends to use Ken's services and I have had nothing but rave reviews back from them. Having someone with the quality and integrity that Ken has makes you look good when you recommend his council.

This is an excellent law firm. There are two lawyers at Stim & Warmuth, and both are extremely well-qualified, hard-working, and honest. My experience with them over many years is that their rates are very fair and they will work overtime to make sure everything they do for their clients is done correctly and professionally. They are not only good lawyers, they are also good people who are well-respected by their peers and are actively involved in volunteer service within the community. You can not find a better law firm or better lawyers. I have been completely satisfied with all the work they have done for me and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Tried speaking with her and politely said "good morning" she responded by saying "what do you want" Still tried to be polite and explained the reason for my call, she then responded saying "Im not going to talk to you, Im going to hang up." I'll let you decide if you want to do business with people like Paula.

Very kind and also professional. Called me at 9:00 P.M. on the previous night to discuss the next day trial. And got the best judgement. Recommend him to everyone without any hesitation.

No, I would definitely not recommend this lawyer, despite that he does charge a reasonable retainer fee, but you get what you pay for. His is not an aggressive lawyer, very passive and laid back with his methods. In court, would not speak on my behalf or present my evidence. When I would make suggestion, he would shoot them down. He did not go all out for me as a "client". I had to fire him due to his negligence, carelessness, unresponsive and luckily I did.

I went through a divorce. Other lawyers wanted huge retainers up front and hourly fees that would have destroyed me. Mr. Caner worked with me on my fees and didn't stick a bill in my face every time I saw him. Besides getting me through the divorce, he helped me to see the bigger picture. He was extremely helpful and I do not hesitate to call him if I have a quick question. He does not bill you for every little question or phone call or fax.

There only purpose is to write parkong tickets. I've never once seen them do anything else. But I guess we're all safe from families that stayed 70 minutes but only paid for 60. Phew!

This review is for one singular bad experience with one singular public safety officer. At roughly 10 PM Tuesday 7/30/24 driving northbound on William floyd parkway in Shirley there was a vehicle behind me tailgating me. He was approximately 10 feet off my back bumper. I was traveling in the right lane taking off from a green light, driving within the speed limit, with no one in the left lane for at least 200 yards behind me. He sped up nearly hitting me from behind, then swerved to the left, less than 12 inches from my drivers door, and then erraticaly swerved in front of my vehicle, again, nearly clipping my front drivers corner panel. There was no imminent or present danger from passing vehicles to my left. He was not responding to an incident. I could not believe this was the behavior of a public safety officer. Clearly, this public safety officer was not acting in the public's safety. He did not have his lights on. He was not responding to an emergency (I am unsure if they even have the allowance to respond like most first responders). He was throwing a hissy fit that I wasn't driving fast enough for him -in the right lane-traveling within the speed limit- and he put mine and my girlfriend's lives in direct danger-only to slam on his brakes 10 seconds later for the oncoming red light. I was astonished so I called Public Safety. The woman I spoke with stated "We don't have any officers down that way"... I responded with ,"you most certainly do, and he purposely tried to run me off the road." I gave her the vehicle number. Judging from her voice on the phone, she knew who it was. She ushered me off the phone rather quickly with no followup information. I am searching for an email to contact a higher up, but conveniently-there is no email address for public safety. Imagine paying the exorbitant taxes we do to an organization that will literally run you and your family off the road-for being a safe and conscientious driver. Oh wait no-that is the case right here in Brookhaven town. This is utterly disgraceful and I am furious.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
