The Maurer Law Firm was outstanding in handling my personal injury case. After my accident, I was overwhelmed and unsure of my legal rights. Ira not only helped me understand my options but also went above and beyond to ensure I received the best medical attention while he handled the legalities. His dedication to my case resulted in a settlement that far exceeded my expectations. Ira is a highly recommended lawyer for anyone in need of a personal injury lawyer.

I'm a permanently disabled woman and I contacted Ira as I am currently dealing with a horrific living situation which has left me with lasting and possibly permanent lung damage due to mold in my rental home. I have gone to multiple doctors, including an allergist and a pulmonologist, who both confirmed that the mold was causing and exacerbating my consistently worsening symptoms, which has required multiple new medications and treatments just to mitigate until the mold is remediated by the slumlord. The mold was confirmed with a very extensive and expensive test from a local company that specializes in finding mold, even airborne mold. The conditions inside my home tested as "unacceptably high levels". I brought all of this information to Ira, and he told me this was a good case of clear cut negligence in which I had already done my due diligence to gather proof. He asked for more information regarding the situation which I provided, and we set up a video conference for the following week so he had ample time to review and understand everything. Unfortunately, at the meeting itself, his demeanor changed from caring and concerned, to victim blaming and gaslighting. He then insisted it would be "difficult to prove" in court that the mold was causing my health issues, despite the clear documentation as well as testimonial of my pulmonologist, who said the reason is "without a doubt" the airborne mold, which I am highly allergic to. He then proceeded to tell me my tone over text messages to my slumlord was "unladylike", and that I needed to act in a certain way when addressing an abusive, predatory landlord. Obviously, I disagree with the sentiment that evil individuals are owed any amount of respect as the default, especially after they have shown their intentions in harming disabled tenants. I will continue to pursue retaining a personal injury attorney who believes in their clients and doesn't shame them for advocating for themselves while being actively abused, and already suffering from severe C-PTSD, which Ira also knew about, because he asked me specifically if I suffer from it. It seems like Ira just has a god/saviour complex and for that reason I did not follow up with him after our video call to provide the statement from my pulmonologist, which he had already seemingly dismissed as irrelevant. Ira is not a genuinely caring person the way he led me to believe.

I have to give Michael Farley 5 stars. I was nervous about the process and he answered all my questions no matter how many I had. The process went much better than I expected. He will get back to you personally which I like a lot. I had some issues with the town and he told me exactly what needed to be done and helped me through the entire process. I really feel he goes to bat for you. I was very impressed and I would highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Michael Farley to anyone doing a real estate transaction. He takes your calls personally and the calls are not pushed on to his paralegal. He even returns phone calls after 5:00. I really felt he took the time to explain everything thoroughly when we had our contract signing. Any issues that came up he dealt with promptly and really fought for us. We were very impressed by Michael's knowledge and he is a true expert in his field. I absolutely give 5 stars and suggest anyone who is buying or selling property hire Michael Farley as their attorney.

Highly recommend Alexander Sherwood Keenan, Esq. Real Estate law. Alexander Sherwood Keenan, Esq. is heads and shoulders above his peers in terms of consistency and performance in the field of Real Estate Law. After over 5 years of interviewing, evaluating and hiring, firing and clawing back retainers from legal counsel, I am giving Mr. Keenan my highest recommendation. We retained Mr. Keenan several times over the years we traveled through the probate process to assist us in navigating complicated real estate issues. We also evaluated best strategies on how to handle the property during the probate proceedings. I can say without reservation that you will find Mr. Keenan to be a creative thinker who also listens and if the process becomes complicated, he will not abandon you. We met, discussed the issues, possible alternatives, decided on a course of action and he did what he promised to do every time. I was impressed with his solid brainstorming that resulted in an impressive air-tight promissory note to protect the compensation rights of a major creditor. At the closing, the sale of the property was supposed to be a simple one funding source all-cash deal. We walked into a situation where multiple banks and funding sources were representing the buyers. This created a multi-tiered closing that Mr. Keenan handled with grace and decorum. What could have devolved into chaos, became collegial, in-part due to Mr. Keenan’s exceedingly calm, adaptive, accommodating persona. He became the wheel hub at the closing. At the end, all acknowledged at the end that everything went very smoothly. Mr. Keenan has a firm and knowing way of directing the conversation and situations, creating win-win scenarios for all sides. This is a very rare gift. It is also important to note that the promissory note he drew up years before the actual property was sold, was impressive and held up, uncontested in the court proceedings. I can say that after working with a number of attorneys, Mr. Keenan, is refreshingly clear on his skill set and will also let you know up front if he is not the right attorney to handle your case saving you time and money. Throughout this process, of the more than seven attorneys I hired to handle legal work for the Estate, I only re-upped with two attorneys. Mr. Keenan is one of them. When it comes to real estate law, Mr. Keenan is truly worthy of your time and trust in handling you legal estate matters including property closings across the New York State regional area.

I came to the The Maurer Law Firm after a thoroughly unsatisfactory experience at a large, prestigious firm with a senior partner who mishandled my case. After meeting with Ira and other professionals at The Maurer Law Firm, I felt assured my case finally was in excellent hands, and my expectations were surpassed every step of the way. Even though my case was a modest one in terms of its nature, scope, and potential financial settlement, throughout the entire engagement I felt treated as if my case was one of the utmost importance, which instilled trust and confidence and provided peace of mind. Ira Maurer has a distinguished history of achievement. I attribute that not only to his knowledge, experience, competence, and effectiveness, but also to his impeccable integrity and ethics. These are the qualities that make him an exceptional champion for clients. The other professionals in the firm match his qualities, giving clients the best representation they could find anywhere.

Our family has known Ira M. Maurer for many years, and when it came to hire a lawyer to represent me with my dental malpractice suit I knew he was the one that I could count on to handle my case. Ira, not only that he's a well-trained lawyer in different types of injury cases, he's a real gentleman when it comes to dealing with people. He has always been upfront with me and has never given me false hope. He was able to get me a good settlement and I'm very grateful for that. I don't know what else to say about him, except that when you meet him for the first time you will know exactly whom you are dealing with, and I mean that in a good way. I will always recommend Ira.

It was a pleasure to work with someone who maintained such high standards in all aspects of the case, whether communication, negotiation, experience, and ethics. I have already highly recommended his practice to others without hesitation.

Dario was such a professional. I never felt like just another case. He made sure that each and every step was taken care of before we entered court. This being a very difficult thing to go through for me, and my family, he cared, and I felt as though he was a family member looking out for me. He noticed i was under stress over this period in my life, and he reassured me that everything would be fine. I always felt better after he explained things to me. He was up front with me every step of the way and advised me of what was best in my particular situation . I would highly recommend him. His office staff was also very comforting and very knowledgable. Thank you, Dario.

I cannot say enough good things about Mr. McCormack and his representation of me. His initial meetings really put me at ease, while still being completely realistic about the potential outcomes in my case. He was even more in charge in any court appearances, being respectful, thorough and asking the judge for minimum penalties wherever possible. The worst thing I could say is that he is often in court and couldn't always get back to me the same day I might try to reach him. But he always does respond and is 100% on the case for his client, and the fact that he is so busy says everything about his skills as a lawyer. He comes with my highest recommendation, absolutely the best of the best in the Hudson Valley.

Attorney Michael Pascazi is by far the most intelligent, knowledgeable and kind attorney I have ever worked with. His knowledge of the law in every aspect surmounts anything you’ll ever experience in another human. He’s not just my attorney he’s a friend. He’s dedicated and so respected. By far the only attorney I would ever want to have on my side. He’s personable, cooperative and empathetic. He doesn’t just listen to you, he hears you. He pays detailed attention to every aspect of every detail! We need more people like him in this world. A review is the least I can do to show my respect to this admired attorney. You’ll always be in the best hands, and if you’re willing, you will learn so much while working with him!

Overcharged me --- I had the charges reviewed by 3 other lawyers -- every single one said that he charged me double than he should have.Him and his secretary turned obnoxious and hung up the phone when I asked them for the refund . By the way ,when I was looking for a new lawyer to replace him , every single lawyer ( at least 3 lawyers ) told me to stay away from him . He promises too much and you eagerly sign the check ---- But he fails to deliver and you will never see your $$$$ again !!

This happens to be the very worst representation ever by an attorney. He could not be reached at the most crucial of times and took months to inform of actual Court Orders thereby destroying the chance of an appeal and eroding other rights to Due Process. Look elsewhere for proper representation in any legal field. He does too much in too many fields and is the master of no one area.

We spoke with about 8-10 attorneys before coming to him and were met with not great resultso. Even though we did not end up hiring him because of the complicated case we had, he broke everything down for us and explained it all in laymen terms for us to understand. If we had known him sooner, we would have hired him in a heartbeat. He took the time to explain everything and answered every single one of our questions until we were satisfied and understood, knowing full well he could not take the case. If we had known him first, we would have definitely hired him no matter the cost.

I worked with Carl on an ongoing family court matter. From our initial phone call. His intent and misconduct was blatantly observed. Our case was messy and long drawn out. When I tried to give Carl a summary of the history of our case. He replied "... I'm not interested in any history, when I want history I'll ask for it.". He went on to say " I'm here to reel you in Mr ......., I'm a 30 year friend of Judge -----, & I have trained both opposing counsel and the attorney for the child". ( Glad I took a friend's advice and recorded our conversation.). Although we met under pandemic and at a time social interaction was greatly limited. Carl refused to share an email. For purposes of correspondence. He advised me " If you have something to say write me a letter". When I wrote and sent certified letters to his office. They were forwarded to Teterboro NJ. The office address he provided is for a building that has been vacant for sometime. I tracked my certified letter to a post office in Hopewell. After intercepting my own letter. I was able to glean his actual office address. Which when Google searched. Comes up listed as a vaccum company. Carl refused to acknowledge my petitions, failed to come up to speed on my case, and even blew off our deadline for discovery. He files a motion to be relieved as my counsel. Stating he was well versed as to the facts and circumstances of our case. Upon his exit . I requested a copy of my file. Carl issued me a hand full of documents. Although our case had been ongoing for years and the files I have contains hundreds of documents. Carl is a the equivalent of a "hitman" for the Dutchess County Family Court. I documented instances where he did not confer with me prior to, or after appearances. There was even an instance where he didn't show for court. Oddly on that day and representing myself pro se. I was able to get the current petition dismissed. I am not the only person Carl has done this too. But I can assure you the buck stops here. I will use any and all documentation I have obtained and retained. To ensure he is no longer allowed to operate in this fashion. The detailed grievance I have compiled against Carl. Complete with audio files of his blatant misconduct. Will be filed with the Bar and any and all governing bodies. In hopes of ending this criminal behavior, and / or drawing the much needed attention. To the broke Dutchess County Family Court system. Which grossly misuses their power and is in desperate need of reform . If your are thinking of working with Carl, or Carl is appointed as your counsel. Do yourself a favour. Find someone else, or represent yourself. As Carl has one agenda. His own. See you at the bar hearing Carl! Can't wait to hear how you articulate your argument against your recorded statements.....!

I’ve used Carl Chu as my Real-Estate attorney twice. He’s awesome. Does a great job and everything went smoothe both times. His paralegal Jeff is also great. Both made me feel like i was right at home in their office and I was extremely comfortable with their business. They advised me well. ;)

Both Carl and his para Jeff made us feel like we were their only clients. Phone calls or messages were always answered immediately, and we were always aware of what was happening now and what to expect next. We were able to pre-sign closing docs and move 2500 miles away while Cartl handled all transactions and even deposited our check in our bank. Any time an issue was raised by the opposite side, we referred it to Carl and never heard any more about it. If you want an absolutely hassle-free, hands-off transaction (and who doesn't), and you want to sleep at night knowing that somebody who knows the score is watching your back, thus is your guy.

John Ianelli of Fishkill, New York, had me pay thousands of dollars in retainer fees, but then when I brought my case to him, he did not appear to have any knowledge on steps to be taken for my case. He seemed like he did at first, and I had to continue paying him for his time. I finally felt a gut feeling to switch attorneys and the other attorney, upon viewing the paperwork, saw very obvious mistakes that Ianelli made. I felt that I had been "had." I did not wish to pursue legal action against Ianelli because I had already plopped down so much money and felt emotionally spent from the situation. I just don't want others to fall down this same rabbit hole.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
