I retained The Calcutt Law Firm to handle my disability claim. Mr. Calcutt was very thorough in gathering all the information needed to successfully win my case. He worked diligently to get what was legally mine. His staff was very helpful and encouraging through out my case. I appreciate everything The Calcutt Law Firm did for me. In my opinion, Mr. Calcutt is the best disability attorney in South Carolina and I would highly recommend him. I was actually referred to him by another attorney and that says a lot for Mr. Calcutt.

Based on my own personal experience with Calcutt Law Firm I WOULD NOT RECOMEND their service to any individual looking for a firm that will give you 100% commitment to preparing and winning your case. (SSD) Mr. Calcutt did not prepare me or my case in a satisfactory manner to me or the Disability Board and the outcome of the Judges decision proved as such. I was very disappointed in my Attorney/Client relationship with Mr. Calcutt. It is my opinion that he needs to put as much effort into winning a case as he does his interest in playing/watching baseball. Early on in my retaining Mr. Calcutt, the Staff at Calcutt Law Firm was rude, disrespectful and portrayed a power struggle attitude when faced with a question or opinion pertaining to my case. There were times when I was transferred throughout the office to 3 seperate individuals just to have a question answered or to give needed information regarding my claim. This law firm wasted a lot of time (16mos.) to lose a case :(

I hired him for a criminal matter for my son. He didn't mind taking my money, but a gladiator he is not. He failed my son. I would absolutely never recommend him for anything legal. An ambulance chaser he is, a criminal defense attorney he is most certainly not.

1999 I hired Cheryl for my divorce which turned out to be the worst decision ever even though she came highly recommended! She left many things unsettled that needed court follow-ups later and also failed to inform me or provide with vital information through out the case or after.

Cheryl has been fighting hard since day one, she won our case and got us everything we wanted. This was a complicated case and the father had never seen his child unsupervised. She won JOINT custody 50-50. Now everyone is happy! She always kept us informed and prepared for court or about court. As far as how long it takes, family court is backed up. Court takes time unless you have an emergency that the judge recognizes there isn't something new happening on your case every week. So when there is CHERYL , seth, or Brookie will tell you.. the office is great and I absolutely love everyone inside. Hero lawyer and definitely someone you call on in time of need. Affordable, ethical, and compassionate. Has many years experience. This is who you need fighting for you!!

I hired Cheryl to handle my divorce and it took 4 years for the divorce to be finalized. My ex was dragging his feet, but I feel like she definitely could have done more to get the case moving. I had to call daily to get any answers or updates, and even when I called I was never given a solid answer. My phone calls were never returned and I actually had to go to the office a few times just to receive any communication. I would never recommend this attorney. While other attorneys in the area may be more expensive, I feel like you would definitely get better representation with anybody else in the area. You could probably have better luck with a brand new kid right out of law school than with her years of experience. Not only is she unsatisfactory, but her entire staff is as well. DO NOT HIRE HER!

She spent less than one hour with after being appointed by the court to help my children. All she was concerned about was getting paid. She has nerve to call herself a guardian. She was rude and unprofessional in all aspects of her dealings with me.

I was falsely accused of a crime by a couple. Ms. Parrott was assigned as my public defender because I couldn't afford an attorney. From day 1, she acted as if I were guilty and didn't believe a word that came from me. She made it VERY clear she has ZERO interest in proving my innocence and that I was just another number to put away and line her pockets. I fought for quite awhile. Eventually I fought so long, they reassigned me a public defender that was WONDERFUL and actually believed I was innocent and the couple accusing me were completely fabricating EVERYTHING they were saying against me. Sadly, my case took so long and she Eventually stopped being a public defender and took another job and OF COURSE, who am I assigned to again?? Karen E. Parrott. However, this time around, she SEEMED like SOMEWHAT believed that I was actually innocent. So i keep fighting and believing SOMEONE will believe that I'm ACTUALLY innocent. Eventually, SHE lied to me to get me to accept a bogus plea deal. Unfortunately, I didn't find out that Ms. Parrott had lied to me, as her client, until a year or 2 after. She KNEW if she came to me with a felony charge for something I DIDNT do, I would shoot it down. So she told me it would show as a misdemeanor charge because I was pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge and it would show on my record as a misdemeanor. So I TRUSTED HER as my public defender and sign thr plea to get this over with and move on with my life seeing as it was just a simple misdemeanor charge and I wasn't getting locked up, being a single full-time dad. And NOW because of her lies, I have a felony on my record, which was my WHOLE fight to begin with. I wasn't gonna take a felony charge for something I DIDNT do, she knew that and she lied because SHE believed I was guilty from the start. After looking into my case and SEVERAL others she's represented, this ISNT her first time doing this and tends to make a habit of doing things of this nature. If you're EVER assigned Ms. Karen E. Parrott from the Florence, SC public defenders office, do EVERYTHING you can to get reassigned a new public defender. DO NOT think you will be different because you won't. She WILL treat you as guilty from the start and give a "lack luster" attempt at representing you and she is NOT beyond lying to her own defendants to "lighten" her case load. If I could leave her negative stars, I ABSOLUTELY would!!

My sister and I had power of attorney papers made up for our mother and hired Mr. Jordan to handle it. He misspelled my sisters name throughout the documents. She called him many times over the next week or two to have him correct it because the error could cause serious issues down the road. He would not return her calls and would not take her calls. He was done once he got his money. Use him at your own risk!

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.

Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:

  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
