Ms. Barr did the impossible, she won my husband full custody of his children in the State of Texas!!! Ms. Barr is the second attorney we have hired, (first attorney was with a completely different law firm) and I am so thankful she was recommended to us! She did everything she said she would do, and kept us informed every step of the way. We were never made to feel like "just a client", and her team consisting of Amanda Rowan, and Summer Chappell, were just as helpful and informative as Ms. Barr was. I cannot sing Ms. Barr's praises loud enough, she truly was a Godsend to us during this very difficult time!

I was lied to, paid lots of money to her, signed papers to be filed into court which was NEVER DONE she led me on for approx 3 years and in the end nothing, never stepped into court the last year and a half but continued to charge me. When i fired her she sent me a bill for more money. She received approx 13,000.00 from me.

After meeting with a few different attorneys, I met with Genevieve Barr and was not only put at ease, but was more than impressed with Genevieve's approach and direction. I hired her on the spot. My daughter was then taken out of state against my will and within 36 hours, I had three Texas judgments signed and ordered for my daughter to be returned back to me immediately. I cannot explain in words the joy that this brought me as a father. In the time since, we have been preparing for our upcoming court date and I feel that I will be represented in the best manner possible. Genevieve also has an all-star crew that made me feel comfortable, informed, and really put forth a huge effort to make things happen quickly for mine and my daughter's sake. I sincerely appreciate all that they have done for me and my daughter over the last month. If anyone out there is considering a family law attorney - I highly recommend Genevieve Barr and her outstanding staff with Bailey & Galyen.

Carey was not only extremely knowledgeable but also kind and thoughtful during our guardianship case. He has lot of experience out in the field, understands the system (which is a mess) and it was evident in my dealings with investigators and court staff that he has their respect. We were in a very unusual situation and had difficulty finding someone to take our case. Carey took us on, explained everything and was so nice to us. Our aunt is now living someplace safe and is well-cared for and we are thankful to Carey for his guidance to help us get there. Highly recommend!

I used this attorney to represent me in a guardian case for my mother. He did not speak up at a mediation or support me in my efforts to continue being my mother's guardian. During the mediation it was agreed that the doctor and my mother's residence would not change but Cary Schroeder did not enter that into the court papers on my behalf. The trust which handles my mother's lifesaving and monthly income does not have to report to the family on how they spend her money. I heard rumor that all of the attorneys of Tarrant County work for the judges in the guardianship cases.....now I believe it!

I hired Mr.Bailey for my divorce case. My wife and her attorney were being dishonest and not following court orders throughout the case. In my trial they attempted to derail the case in another direction but Mr. Bailey shut both of them down fast and won the case. I referred a friend to Mr. Bailey and he took care of that divorce case in the same manner and won that case too.

Mr. Bailey was late to every hearing over a two year period. He did not keep me informed on my case. He kept conferring with my ex-husband without me present. Informed ex-husbands attorney he "just wanted to get this over with" not knowing I heard him.. .. Quite surprised when he noticed I heard him. He recommended a deposition (over 500.00) and never used it in court, as a matter of fact he could not find it when I asked for it. My case was sabotaged repeatedly by my attorney. I lost 50% custody of my two children to a man they are afraid of thanks to this man, when the only thing I did was get an increase in child support, which ultimately I lost that too and even more of my child support after Mr. Bailey took my case. I did all of the legwork on my case and Mr. Bailey asked me to bring my information to court because I was more organized than him. He never felt like he cared one way or another for my case. His parallegal gave me all the advice I got that was worth anything. The first day in court, he showed up and asked me what we were here for, then said Oh yeah custody. He shared with me that he usualy just "wings it " when he goes to court, which upset me. He later stated that he was joking ,but, it did not seem like he was prepared EVER. We were made to look like fools. In my opinion Mr. Bailey is not an honest man and would not do anyone justice.

So I called to setup an appointment to see ED and scheduled a time, as to note I had to take a day off and I also had to plan to go all the way to Ft Worth from Frisco. The secretary is very unprofessional, answers the phone like its a personal phone, even when I scheduled she rushed the whole process. long story short I get to the Law office on time and no one is there, after 30 mins of waiting the secretary rushes into the office, without acknowledgment. After an additional 5 mins passes she comes out, and with a dismal excuse, she says that Ed will not be available and that he is at trial, my question is , why not call and inform me, she stated she had no time, but instead she had time to go get lunch smh. Anyways glad I didn't spend a dollar on this lawyer. Note, your front end( Receptionist/secretary) is important, they can make you money or make you lose it.

Ester Torres is very compassionate about her job and taking care of her clients. Ester always ask what is it you want to do. I strongly believe that the last review was made by my ex husband whom tried everything under the sun to destroy any one who tried to help me see him for who he is. Ester Torres likes to file different motions without letting the other party know. She also was observed going to different judges offices and trying to persuade judges to side with her. Will file motions with information that's not true. True example of a dirty lawyer who wants to win at all cost. Doesn't consult with the client and see whats in the best of the client or the family. people file for divorce all the time, and as an attorney every options should be explode before telling your client that divorce is the best option.especially with children. one previous client advise ester torres that she wants to make her marriage work. Torres force her client to sign out of fear. Not professional !

First off I'm not much of a drinker but Andrew is the type of guy you could have a drink with. From the start I was totally comfortable and felt a sense of security with Andrew. I told him what I wanted and he got it done for me... Actually more than what I expected. I had a felony and misdemeanor. He got the felony thrown out and a light smack for the misdemeanor and he got my guns back to me which is what I really wanted. He's funny, has swag and has a presence in the court room. His colleagues seem to have respect for him, and the judge called him by his first name with a certain tone of professional respect. Andrew will always be my favorite officer of the court and id recommend him to anyone looking for a solid defense. Trust me I've dealt with a lot of lawyers, and Andrew's knowledge and professionalism takes the cake.

I would like to be more specific but there is not enough space for that. I will be brief and say that I feel I could have done as well without this attorney. Mr Thompson and his staff should learn to take the time to listen effectively and compassionately BEFORE the client is upset, and to not sound like they are rushing you off the phone when you call with a question. Mr. Thompson was mostly condescending with a sprinkle of sugar and I don't feel that he came close to earning the $6k that he received from my backpay. Just sayin'!!

We have not had a good experience with Higgins and Associates at all. BUYER BEWARE. Do yourself a favor and run AWAY! We have been involved in a grueling, time wasting, stressful, chapter 13 bankruptcy with this firm. Our case should have been over and closed out already, but due to the mishandling of our case it is still in limbo after 5 years. We have lost all the equity in our home due to the negligence of this firm. Yes, due to THEIR negligence. We know good & well you have to pay to keep your assets, but what their firm promises in the beginning & what they actually DO after they get your money are two entirely different things - then they make no effort to correct anything or negotiate in their client’s best interest – only their own. Their promises have not been kept and they have misrepresented things over and over again to us. They have not acted with any loyalty or in our best interest at all in regards to an issue we were promised in the beginning would be worked out appropriately. They are nothing but a cookie cutter firm that wants the easy way out. If you need a firm that will work hard to negotiate for you & be on your side, this firm is NOT it. I recently found out even the trustee's office gets tons of complaints about this firm so how anyone has had a good experience with these people is a surprise. The financial damages they have caused us far exceeds what they have charged in attorney's fees. Shame on you, Higgins and Associates for costing us over 5 years worth of stress, time wasted and thousands of dollars!

Mr. Bronson was assigned to our case by the judge. He was assigned as the Amicus Attorney to speak to my teenage daughter and our family in hopes of learning more about why we were requesting the relinquishment of her biological father's rights and a name change to reflect mine and my husband's last name. Mr. Bronson made contact very quickly after being assigned this case and met with us in our home within a week. He was very personable and spent the time needed to get to know us and our daughter. He filed a very thorough report with the court and because of him, we were able to get what we wanted in court! I would recommend him to anyone with a case similar to ours. Thank you, Mr. Bronson!

The fact that they say it was a mistake with that statement, that means internally one of your lawyers wrote that out and thought it was a good idea because you wouldn't have accidentally sent it if it wasn't written or printed. Honestly, get a law firm that treats people like humans. Also, we need to know the lawyer's name who wrote that paper out. Protecting this person is disgusting. You should be blasting this person even if it was a mistake, which again, if it wasn't written or printed, you couldn't have made that mistake, which means at one point you thought it was a good idea.

However, she failed to fully understand the responsibilities and goals entrusted to her as our attorney. Ms. Famojuro was really helpful for me. I had some concerns about my school principal. I had decided to meet my principal and discuss those concerns. Several weeks later, I was under being accused of unprofessional conduct by colleagues. This, I believe, was a reprisal for the concerns I had regarding my principal. I retained Ms. Famojuro through my professional organization. She guided me through the legal process and helped me prepare to face the charges. She helped me draft and edited my responses to the allegations my colleagues made. She was also with me when I met with district personnel to face the charges. I found her to be professional and competent. Overall, very good. I give her 4 stars and not 5 because there were questions at my hearing that, when I reflect back, were "fishing" questions by the district personnel. These questions were designed to gather more information of wrongdoing beyond the scope of the original accusations. I think those should have been stopped by Ms. Famojuro. However, hindsight is 20/20 and overall, she did a very good job representing me. She helped me to move on from this experience and retain my professional reputation and preserve my career. I am grateful to her for her services.

We had so much evidence on paper about their mother it was ridiculous. The youngest son had over 100 and something tardies to school, somewhere around 15 or so absences. The oldest daughter was just as bad. His ex was working nights and would leave the kids home alone. They did a home visit, & the lady who evaluated the home misconstrued everything. I wrote down everything that was wrong from the home visit, to our personal interviews, and we had asked Mrs. Gayden to present this in court. She never did. We knew how much value the home visit held. She acted like she spent not even 5 minutes reviewing it. The whole experience was miserable. Every time his ex wanted something she would just say to agree, because they weren’t going to budge. We had asked her to file paperwork on his oldest son that lives with us to get child support for him. She said she was working on it. A few months ago we are back in court & the district clerk said she left it open and never filed the paperwork. Now he is 18, and almost 5 years have passed and we have gotten absolutely no child support at all for him, and can’t because of his age. I would send over papers weeks in advance on so many things, and she would say they never got it. His ex broke her restraining order on multiple occasions. We had mutiple photos and a video, and she never presented them. Postings on social media making up things, and badgering my husband. A police report that lied and said he hit her, and myself and the daughter, were there to tell the cops that she was lying! BUT NONE OF THESE THINGS WERE PRESENTED IN COURT!!! She never even got our meeting place changed and we asked her to do that for 2 years!!!!! She said that the other side wouldn’t budge that we had to agree. She wasted our kids lives, our lives, and our money! She was recommended through a church friend, sadly that is what is so disappointing. If you need a family law attorney DO NOT HIRE HER! She is very in organized, & waits till the last minute on absolutely everything! I worked for a family law attorney for 6 years and couldn’t believe how she maneuvered. I told my husband to fire her repeatedly but he just wouldn’t do it, & ended up not paying her anymore at the end because he finally had it!

Attorney Gayden is the absolute best! She handled my case with care from start to finish, although at times I wasn’t the best client to deal with. I get to see my daughter on a regular basis because my daughter’s mom doesn’t want any issues with my attorney. She’s a beast. I’d highly recommend her for custody and child support cases, especially for father’s rights.

Didn’t get ahold of me until the literal day before court and told me the wrong time . Almost got arrested because of his mistake and then blamed me up and down. Caused a commotion in court room, and yelled at me because of HIS mistake when the judge understood the mixup he STILL proceeded to cause a scene . Then Said he "supposedly texted me about a court date" which he never did which then lead to a warrant out for my arrest. My advice if you get him as a free attorney would be to not have him as one and request another ASAP if you do. Hes a complete Joke and a whole clown when it comes to the criminal justice system. He acts like he’s actually somebody when in reality he’s just a free attorney hired by the state.

I disagree with the previous review. All cases are different. Mr. Cantu has represented me on 2 cases. I have always found this office to be very courteous and respond timely. First case was completed within 6 months and I was very satisfied with the results. Second case involved myself and my 2 sons, which were finished a little over a year for all 3, at the end we were very happy. He might have referred your case of a client's impatience.

I hired this so called attorney David cantu because my x neighbor said it was his cousin big mistake! I was in a car accident around 18 months ago. To make along story short there staff sucks got one phone call from them after I asked to talk to David cantu got the run around from him and his staff. I got a phone call from another attorney saying he refered my case to another attorney. I never got a call or letter in the mail letting me know this. Now after around 18 months I have to start all over with another attorney. I would never ever recomend this attorney to my worst enemy.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
