Lauren was mine, and my wife's attorney for my custody battle. She was on time accurate and amazing in the entire process. I know for a fact that she did everything she could to make everything easier and is less complicated as possible. I would recommend her for anybody looking to get a court order or make a difference in your family's lives. If you need somebody don't look into anyone else she is on point and a great attorney. Thank you Lauren!

I had the pleasure of working with Lauren Cain, and I cannot recommend her enough. She is knowledgeable, professional, and truly dedicated to her clients. Lauren took the time to listen to my concerns and provided clear guidance throughout the entire process. Her attention to detail and expertise gave me confidence that my case was in the best hands. She is not only excellent attorney but also someone who genuinely care about the people she represents. If you're looking for someone who will go above and beyond for you, Lauren Cane is the one to call. We can't thank her enough for the help and satisfaction she has given us.

Brad and his firm were excellent. I had a recurring problem with my infotainment system, still covered under warranty. In spite of 6-7 trips to the dealer, and umpteen number of software patches, the system continued to have issues. I reached out to Brad, who quickly evaluated my situation, and took action. He represented my interest well, timely and professionally and helped reach a fair and reasonable settlement with the manufacturer. I would highly recommend him to anyone having habitual issues with their warranty covered vehicle.

I hired Mr. Widner as my attorney recently when I was fighting for custody of my son during a messy divorce. Mr. Widner was affordable and consulted with me countless times throughout the process. His senior paralegal, Mrs. Adams, was phenomenal. She was very responsive and reassuring because she could relate to my situation. I panicked a few times when I didn't get a response as quickly as I wanted but they never took a day off from handling my case. All in all I was granted my divorce and obtained custody of my son. I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks team.

I have worked with Justin for over 10 years now and trust him implicitly with all of my personal and business matters. He's not only an excellent lawyer, but a great person as well who truly has your best interest at heart. He has handled all kinds of issues for me including law suits, negotiations, contracts, estate planning, and more, and his results are always spectacular and effective. He also doesn't gouge or overcharge you 30 minutes for a 5 minute phone call like many other attorneys I've worked with in the past. His prices are fair and he gets great results. I honestly cannot recommend Justin more highly.

I do not know how this attorney manages to have any positive reviews. I was referred to her by a friend to handle my divorce. She was extremely unprofessional from the start including implying she had her own firm & office. She works out of a small leased business office space & rents rooms at other buildings to hold meetings in cities she actually has no presence in yet advertises that she supports. She has no staff but occasionally brings in a rent-a-lawyer on the cheap to assist her with paperwork she doesn’t want to handle. She must be extremely successful as a gadfly & social butterfly in Republican circles, SMU alumni circles, various women’s clubs & bar associations. Yet she ran for judge as a Democrat. That’s about how loyal she can be. She was late to every meeting we had except the first one & frequently rescheduled important milestone appointments. Christy was never prepared. As a rule she waited until the night before to prepare for a court date, hearing, trial, etc. Her appearances performances in court were absolutely abysmal & although she billed me a lot of money she was a complete failure representing my interests. As she has no office support, I did an enormous amount of paperwork, typing, creating documents & trying to get her to set agendas, goals, lists of issues & due-by dates for action items- to no avail. She is lazy. She put the least amount of effort into work although she billed extraordinary rates. She unethically collaborated with the opposing law firm, where she was once an employee & went behind the scenes to speak to opposing counsel & delay progress. It is ridiculous that she practices law.

I contacted Christy to help me with my divorce. She was very professional, knowledgeable and very well educated. She took on my case and we stuck to the game plan and never did she not play by the rules. She is very ethical and by the book, I couldn't recommend anyone better. I would pick her again and again. FANTASTIC attorney and worth your money!!! Thank you very much Christy! Job well done!

She is very professional, patient, very well educated, and truly works for you in your best interest. Christy's experience and caring ability allows you to feel at ease. Christy is a true case of an attorney that doesn't have to be unethical, or unprofessional to achieve her success.

While attorney Krenek worked for Raggio & Raggio P.L.L.C. was hired to work for me through the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program and while working on my case she invited me and my son father to go speak to her and my sons father had knowledge of child custody and have gone through a similar situation with his other sons mother.. she sided with him on everything. I felt horrible she was working for me and having no support from her to help me out i felt scared so i dropped the case.. she giggled and smile and seem like she was having a good time with my sons father.. NEVER AGAIN.. IM GLAD I NEVER WASTE A DIME ON HER... SHE ALSO REEKED HORRIBLY OF CIGARETTE SMELL WHILE WE WERE IN HER OFFICE.. WHAT A GREAT ATTORNEY!! NOT.. I ATTAINED WHAT I WANTED WITH ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL ATTORNEY.. SO DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF HIRING HER... PLUS SHE GOT HER LICENSE SUSPENDED I WONDER WHAT FOR..?? PRETTY SURE SHE DESERVED IT!

Ms. Krenek recently helped me with my divorce. Although I was not in the state or near court where the necessary proceedings took place, she covered all bases for me in every way. She is very detail oriented and very efficient in her actions. She coordinated both for both sides seamlessly and things were finished in a very timely and professional manner.

In an emotional battle during my divorce, trying to determine what would be easiest and least painful for my children, Julie kept me strong and positive. Even though she felt I needed to be stronger and push for more....she stayed supportive to me and my needs and fulfilled every thing I requested. She stayed on top of my ex-husband's attorney to keep from extending the process any longer than needed. She is an amazing attorney and I will defintely continue to utilize her. I highly recommend Julie if you want to get results! No battle, no struggle, no hassle or confusion....just results!

Where do I begin? Elizabeth Nielsen started off appearing to be a competent attorney. In the time that she was my attorney, she had three different paralegals and moved her office to three different locations. She was all I could afford at the time. Do not waste your money or your time! She is unorganized and unprofessional. She was late to almost every court date and one time the entire court including myself, waited 15 minutes for her to arrive. I ended up getting totally screwed by my ex-husband and his pitbull attorney and Elizabeth. Worst life experience ever! Run away from this attorney!

She is very unprofessional. She was not prepared and unorganized. She did not present any of the information that we provided her. Before court, she built our confidence, but did not perform in court. I'm not sure if she was scared of the OAG or just lazy. At least we would have been heard if we would have represented ourselves. Please don't trust her with your money or your family.

I first spoke to Barata Hollis regarding my divorce about 6 months ago. I must admit I was a bit of a mess. She was so very kind and understanding well above her legal requirements. Regarding her work ethic, it was above all my expectations. She was responsive and compassionate, and she was knowledgable, but understanding of my lack of focus at that time. She was informative without appearing bothered. She was outstanding. I went to other attorneys, who put a lot of emphasis on money, and did not seem to be concerned about my state of mind. In comparison to the others, she was very kind. I guess the best endorsement a mother could give would be to say that I recommended her to my children.

Never trust an attorney who keeps putting you off when you want a meeting. I got taken to the cleaners in a divorce, largely because this attorney did not even bother to check the false financial information given by my ex-spouse; and because she refused to give me any coaching or advice before I testified (despite my asking multiple times). she apologized for how things turned out, but then stopped returning my calls.

I was referred to Barata by a friend, and I occupied her full attention for over an hour. She was attentive, polite, and very knowledgeable about the legal questions I had. At the end of the time, I offered payment for her consultation. She told me that the initial consultation was free. I expected a hard sell for my business after my consultation, but I never got one. I chose to come back to her to handle my case, and it was handled professionally and quickly. She operated with my best interest at heart. I would recommend Ridgely & Hollis in Dallas, and would recommend Barata 1000%.

I have known Mr. Sorrels for several long years now and I proudly admonish his legal talent and skill set! Although his major caseloads these days center around family/civil law, when I met Mr. Sorrels years ago he was handling criminal cases. And let me tell you, whether it's a criminal or civil case, Mr. Sorrels is the man! I had spent 9.5 years fighting for custody of my son. When I first met Mr. Sorrels, not only did he listen to everything I had to say (and boy I had a lot to say, I'm long-winded!), he also gave me strong reassurances that he was on my side. Mr. Sorrels is the MOST DILIGENT LAWYER I HAVE EVER MET. I'll tell you all why. He does not give up on your case even when you don't feel there's any hope. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. At one point during the hearings, I was extremely down about how it was moving along and essentially gave up hope of making good on the promise I made to my son, who was 11 at the time. But I'll tell you how good God is. Two (2) years later, I received communication from Mr. Sorrels about my case. Although we had not spoken for quite some time, he reiterated that he was determined to see my case through. Mr. Sorrels made good on his word, and did so without charging additional outlandish fees for which I am eternally grateful. Of course, there were some fees involved, but not so excessive that they were not feasible. In the end, I was awarded the custody that was stolen from me so many years ago, and this past December my son, his 3 siblings, and I celebrated the first birthday and Christmas with him in almost 10 years. Thank you, Wayne. I am forever in your debt. My family and I don't just call you "our lawyer", we also call you our friend. In a nutshell, here's the meat and potatoes: - Excellent legal counsel. - Highly capable of navigating the legal jargon, statutes, and codes to construct your legal case to achieve desired outcome(s). - Well-connected to other lawyers and attorneys in the legal community. - Very family-oriented. Not only did he do this because he was hired, it was to right a wrong that was bestowed upon my son and me. Mr. Sorrels also has a family that he proudly displays around his office and on his website, and is very active with as well. :) - Makes you feel that your case is his most important case. No matter how busy his caseload he ALWAYS makes time for his clients. - VERY responsive. Mr. Sorrels will be there for you even in the stickiest of situations as your legal counsel and on behalf of your case. - Reasonable pricing and flexible with clients on a case-by-case basis. There are not enough words to express the level of gratitude I have for Mr. Sorrels and his legal expertise. Had it not been for him, I don't feel that I would have ever been able to close that 10-year chapter of my life. My son just turned 14 and I was able to celebrate with him. Family that had not seen him since he was 4 finally got a chance to know him and tell him all about his life before the "Great Divide". From looking at his file on this site, I can see that he is not well-known but he is a true "diamond in the ruff". It is my intention in the not-too-distant future to put Mr. Sorrels on a payroll as my family attorney if it is at all possible; he's just that skilled at what he does! Thank you, Mr. Wayne Sorrels! We love you! :)

Mr. Spears was hired to represent me in June this year. The total fee was going to be 30 K half the money upfront, so I gave him $16,000 to begin at the end of the day he withdrew from my case in three different counties stating that I hired another attorney, when in fact, that was not the case, he took every dollar I had. that being said, the way he spoke to my girlfriend was not even the way you would speak to your dog he tried to extort me out of another 15,000 by lying and telling me that he had spoken to my county and things would be taken care of within two weeks. Anybody who has any questions you’re welcome to contact me

Ed is great lawyer, he helped me out of a situation about two years ago. I was on a probation violation, and looking at up to 99 years and going federal. He helped me get reinstated, no jail time, and I was released on my probation violation and a no bond. I don't know how he did that, but he did it. He can seem a bit unruley at times and depending on the case, a lil on the high side. But you get what you pay for, and he woks for you, till the very end. He can be slow on updates, but he will keep you informed, and work with you. I would use him again, as I find myself in trouble again currently now, he is on the case once again.

Do not use her (Evette) for legal issues especially divorce. She is more focused on establishing good connections/networking within the legal community than defending you as a client. If she has to meet with the opposing lawyer, “BE PRESENT”. She will laugh/joke (about you) with the opposing lawyer if you are not present. Find a lawyer that will represent you.

Ryan Russo was assigned as my attorney for a DWI case in Collin County when he worked for Dunham and Jones and it was a very poor outcome! This was my 1st time in my life being in trouble with the law, but he seem to not take the case serious making snarky comments about the whole situation. He illustrated not to be prepared for a motion before the judge getting destroyed by a new asst DA in training, it was so bad the judge stopped him questioning the police and told the type of questions he shouldve been asking. I ended up having to go to jail, paying fines, being on probation for a 12 months with community service for a first offense DWI that didnt include an accident. In the plead deal the judge found an error in the paperwork that showed me going to jail for months and made the DA change it. In some of the classes i was required to attend, I talk to other offenders that said they were on their second DWI some with accidents and their attonery got them only probation. For $4000+ one would expect better representation for such a serious case as well as competences along with more compassion from their attorney for this life altering experience, Ryan was absolutely none of that; he was horrible and would steer clear of his represenation for lawyer in any situation!

I hired this attorney and after court I never heard from him again without having to call numerous times, contact his law firm with a complaint, and send several emails. He failed to do half the things he said he was going to do, and did not even get my court order signed by the judge. Neal Prevost and staff is very negligent and unprofessional, I definately would not recommend him to anyone in the future.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
