Mr. Hall Represented me in a DUI case. It was a difficult time for my family due to the circumstances. Mr. Hall was in my corner all the way and knew it was going to work out. He found angles that were amazing to clear my case with extreme integrity. That means a lot to me in a world where it is much needed. Mr. Hall always carried himself professionally and responded to my needs with confidence. My case was dismissed and do not know if yours will be but can tell you this "Mr Hall will give you the best chance in fairness and integrity to fight for you". It made a world of difference in mine, after it all was said and done am very thankful for the blessings that where in play. Mr. Hall comes highly recommended as someone who will fight for you and bring about a positive outcome under the circumstance. It would be an Honor to see Mr. Hall progress to a Judge or Higher Government Official.

Kyle was referred to defend a moving violation -failure to yield to emergency vehicle- change lanes or lower speed 20 mph below posted speed. City of Terrell Texas is a terrible speed trap. From the beginning Kyle was attentive and completed the intake on my case. He kept me informed both with telecom and emails throughout the whole process. He contacted city of Terrell & appeared on my behalf on Zoom. He was able negotiated to an acceptable level for me. He conveyed the information to me via phone call and promptly mailed the court paperwork. I am a busy person and having Kyle in my corner was helpful for me. NOTE: Kyle was referred to me by WESLEY C. JOHNSON of the Law Offices of Houston M. Smith, P.C. Thanks Wesley for the referral. It all worked out for me and I will keep Kyle's number handy while driving through the City of Terrell Texas in the future or try to avoid the city totally.

I assumed when you consulted an attorney to "take care" of your traffic citations that's what would take place. warrants were lifted but I was informed I would still have to pay the tickets, send a certified letter to the court and blah, blah, blah, blah! all those things I failed to do the first time im having to do all again, only this time the money is due all at once. money I dont have. which means there will be more warrants issued and the cycle continues. except this time I'm several hundred dollars lighter. not at all what I expected. what a year it's been indeed!

Lied to me about filing a law suit. Told me nobody sues for medical malpractice anymore because of tort reform causing me to miss the statue of limitations. But now all of the sudden he becomes a medical malpractice expert. He charged me 4 times to obtain one set of medical records. Tried to be paid a second time for expenses he had already been paid for. He sent unrelated bills to the insurance as part of the claim. I didn't expect him to make everything better but I didn't expect to make everything worse. He shouldn't be allowed to practice law. It's shameful what he's has done.

When I had a surgery go horribly wrong I had no idea how to find a good lawyer. After speaking with probably 10 different lawyers I settled on Hutton Sentell because he seemed to be very knowledgeable of my condition and he always called me back. I actually had several conversations with him before I had made up my mind to actually hire him. Not have ever gone through a lawsuit I had no idea what to expect but Hutton and his team was sure to take the time to sit with me and tell me exactly what was going to happen and approximte time frames. I always had my questions answered and my phone calls returned the same day. During my malpractice proceedings my 17 year old son was visiting family out of the state and was in a horrible car accident. He was a passenger. At first I contacted an out of state attorney because I thought that's what I had to do. It only took 2 phone calls with this other attorney to realize he was not going to take care of my sons needs. I called Hutton and explained the situation to him and he then became my sons attorney as well. My sons case was settled quite quickly and he got a very nice settlement. My case did eventually settle as well and I must say I am happy with the results. So when my sister was rear ended a couple months ago and was getting nowhere with the insurance company I told her she must call Hutton. After working with Hutton for approximately 3 years [medical malpractice takes a long time] I felt like we were family. Even after my case settled I still get the occasional email just to see how things are going. And if I ever have to use an attorney again it will definately be Hutton Sentell.

I had an auto accident in June 14, I found an attorney and eventually ended up being dropped from them however they turned my case over to Ben Abbot per the information was received when the rep came out to my office. Well time when on and I hadn't heard a thing so I called, about a month later. and was told Ben Abbott was not my attorney but it was Paul Wingo, but I was also told that it would take about years to settle my case. Well I decided to go a different route so I was told that I could write a letter terminating my service so I did. So this company had my case for maybe a month and half and that's generous. I received a letter about a month after I terminated the firm that they were retaining an interest in my case. But Why? You guys wouldn't even call me, not once. You did no work. Now I've been calling Mr. Wingo for about weeks now, and keep getting the runaround as I would like an explanation. Each time they are going to have him to call me back. What a joke!!

If I could give no stars I would, that is how terrible these attorneys are. Very dishonest, crooked and when they get caught, DENY. The way they speak to clients is unacceptable. To not negotiate all medical bills unethical and unprofessional, then to leave you holding the bag on them, just plain wrong. Most people only care about getting money, this was not my concern, my concern was medical bills being covered. I was told from the beginning we will take care of you, big lie all they care about is lining their pockets.

I went to a family law firm when my ex filed for divorce back in 2012. I was originally assigned one attorney by this firm, but i kept getting put off and rescheduled. Then Holly called me and scheduled a meeting. I found out that the original attorney had left the firm and she'd been assigned. Turned out to be the best thing to happen. My soon to be ex husband made the divorce process extremely difficult and drawn out by representing himself. Holly put up with a lot of abuse from him and high number of motions filed by him over the span of about 2 years. Holly made me feel safe and secure. I had no doubts about her abilities and no worries that i was going to get left in the lurch. I didn't feel like a task on her list of clients to see to. I felt like a person. I felt like I mattered.

Holly Monk is a beloved name in our house. In 2013 my husband and I were desperate to have legal intervention to preserve the emotional wellbeing and safety of our grandson. Before his mother's sudden death in 2012, he and his mom, our daughter, had spent 19 of the 25 months of his life mostly living with us. After her death, our grandson naturally became his biological father's responsibility. However, due to his irresponsibility, our grandson was having to be jostled about between his father 1 or 2 days, his mom's best friend 1 to 2 days and us the other 2 to 3 days each week. This went on for a year and 4 months. Over the period of time before we hired Holly, it became known to us that our grandson was not in a safe environment. The last straw was when he decided he was going to cut us out of our grandson's life because he didn't like our concern over what was happening in their household. This is where the vast knowledge and intelligence of Holly Monk came into play. As we began calling several Attorney's offices to acquire their services, we kept getting told there was nothing they could do for us. They said that in the state of Texas there are no grandparent's rights. We tried to tell them that it wasn't just about our rights, that it was about our grandson's right to be protected as he was an innocent child! Thank God, we didn't give up after being repeatedly turned away. We found Holly. She asked a few questions and told us she felt that she might be able to help. We were beyond grateful. She knew the law in ways that, apparently, the other attorneys didn't. Holly never gave us false hope. She was very attentive and incredibily savvy. She had an uncanny insight into the type of person we were dealing with. She gave us guidance as to how to handle ourselves in order to achieve our best outcome. From the day we had our first consult she had us in court 3 and 1/2 weeks later. With the case that Holly put before the temporary judge, we were granted immediate access to our grandson for 3 out of 4 days a week pending a social study. As time passed, things that the judge had ordered to take place from both parties were not being followed through on the part of the father. Holly requested another hearing to enforce the temporary judges orders. Her strategy was extremely effective resulting in the judge placing the child with us full time. The judge ordered the father's visits to be supervised. This is virtually unheard of progress from a temporary court. In less than a year, the case was finalized in mediation. Along with our retaining full time custody, Holly required that the father meet specified conditions for one year If he wanted to have standard visitation. She also insisted on his paying at least the minimal child support. This was not required, but Holly demanded, as it was her job to get the best for us as her clients. Honestly, it is because of her unceasing dedication to knowing the law and how to present a case that we have been awarded the greatest gift. We now have our grandson full time.

I used Holly Monk for my divorce and I also know her well as a professional colleague. Holly is an excellent attorney and works tirelessly to get the best results for clients. She is also reasonable. I would advise people to pay no attention to the less than positive reviews on this site. Many times those reviews are made by people who may or may not have been clients of Holly and are used to only damage Holly's reputation and are truly no reflection of the work she has performed as an attorney. Holly personally did my divorce and she did an excellent job. Her colleagues and the judiciary think very highly of Holly. She is a wise, competent, and caring attorney.

Divorce is never a positive time in a person's life and it can effect your demeanor, health, and/or actions. It's very important to have an attorney that will advise and guide in a manner that will be in your best interest. Jared is the attorney that you want representing your needs. I want to thank you for your hard work, attentiveness, and preparation on my case. You listened to my concerns, considered my needs, and didn't make any promises that you couldn't keep. You stuck to the facts and held me accountable when my emotions got the best of me. You helped me to understand that the outcome may not be perfect but we would do our best. Your performance in the courtroom was professional yet robust. I'm happy to say that that the final orders were more than I expected and I'm elated with everything. Selecting you as my attorney was a great move and I can't say "Thank you" enough.

Jared's knowledge of the legal system literally saved me tens of thousands of dollars. Through his knowledge of state law and the local courts, he explained to me in plain language exactly where I should set my sights. I achieved my goal - and in doing this he saved me an incredible amount of money.

If I could give no stars, I would. I hired Jared for my child custody/child support case in Feb. of 2017. We had a hearing scheduled for Temporary orders that would determine my visitation with my son as well as the amount that I would pay in child support prior to the final order. After the hearing, I got no response from Jared about the temp. orders that may or may not have been in place. After nearly 2 months of waiting, I found out from my sons Mother that the Temporary orders were in fact signed and in her possession (over a month after they were signed). I hired new council and later found out that two things did not happen. 1) Jared did not show up for the motion to sign hearing that was scheduled in Mid July. This left me behind in my child support because I was not notified that my support had nearly doubled. 2) Jared did not provide opposing council with the financials that were gathered during Discovery. I am assuming that without the numbers that I provided, opposing council could basically estimate my income. We had an opportunity to contest the amounts if Jared would have attended the hearing to sign. I am blown away that this man is able to practice family law at all. He did not care about my needs whatsoever. Basically, he charged me a boat load of money and did not show up to court. The other two reviews on here make perfect sense. Do not hire Jared. he is awful in every way.

He would not return my phone calls, wasn't prepared when we went to court, a terrible nightmare!!!! As the parent of one of his mentally ill clients, Mr. Lacy was extremely rude, condescending, and unprofessional toward me and said he had bigger priorities than my son's simple case. Perhaps he was just having a bad day. If having an attorney that acts like this toward the prosecution at the critical time is a good thing for your case, then Mr. Lacy is your man. He claims to have vast experience. Based on years of experience he was kind enough to sarcastically explain that he knows the outcome for my son already: He is destined to fail probation and go to prison. Maybe so, Thank you very much, Mr. Lacey for the honor of bestowing your excellent services. You just made my day.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
