I recommend Tommy Frank. I went to law school with him. When I had a personal matter that needed representation, he represented me. I believe his fees are reasonable for the knowledge, quality of services, and value added. I would like to thank Tommy and Amanda for all the help they provided me.

Susan is an excellent attorney. She handled my divorce case and preserved my dignity while getting me a fabulous settlement. We got to the brink of trial (as Susan predicted) before my ex folded and disclosed the assets he had hidden. She is a scary litigator. I'm glad she was .on my side. She hung in there, despite bad rulings from the judge. She was always ethical, professional, carried herself with poise and professional, and I'm glad I didn't have another lawyer. I've recommended her to my friends, and no one's sorry they used her. Later she handled my son's DWI and got him off .despite a prior. She's a miracle worker

If this is Pat Doran from Plainview HS then "the best". Told my Math classes in Singapore about when I dropped Solid Geometry (MA math, NYU) my last quarter - took a study hall - she passed by and said: "I thought you were smart." What a motivation. Majored in Math. Thanks Pat.

Mr. Cancellare was appointed by the court as the "attorney for my children" in a divorce. Let me start by saying that the two reviews from "Alex" -- the only positive reviews he has -- were written by his "paralegal." Mr. Cancellare spends 99% of his time drafting his bills for tasks that he never performed and the other 1% of his time talking about his bills and getting paid. Not .00001% of his time is devoted to ensuring the best interests of the children are being represented. Perhaps at one time in his career he cared about representing children, but at this point it is clear that all he cares about is stockpiling money for retirement and dragging out his involvement in each case as long as possible. It's time to retire.

The absolute worse representation of a child lawyer that a court can appoint. He is heartless, unprofessional and lacks interest in your children only interested in the financial aspect of the case. He truly should retire and allow other lawyers who are better qualified and actually have genuine interest in children’s rights and advocacy to take over.

Thank you for everything that you did for my children and I. You’re a very caring, thoughtful and selfless person. I could never express with words how much I appreciate all your efforts. It is a blessing to have you in our lives. I will forever be grateful to you for your assistance in my matter with my children.

I went to a consultation. Christine Furey billed $70. During the conversation, she left after 5 minutes because of an "emergency." She said she'd call me back to arrange another time. I been emailing over 6 months, and she didn't arranged a time. I asked a refund. Christine said "are you really gonna argue over 70 bucks?" Very unprofessional. I have to do a small claims court claim.

I explained my case to her twice. I wrote down notes in a very specific email. Christine Furey either could not or would not listen to her client. In court, I was surprised that she completely ignored the details I had told her multiple times. It is not surprising that the judge ruled against me. I would take Christine Furey to court, but she's not worth the trouble. With her lack of attention, she probably won't make it far.

Christine Erica Furey was supposed to handle a simple case. During the court appearance she forgot some crucial documents, and we lost. My business now has to go through a long and complicated process to fix Mrs. Furey's mistake. Christine Furey tried to deny doing anything wrong. She was very unprofessional about it, and did not acknowledge that it was because she forgot the documents. I have to take Mrs. Furey to court now. This has been a waste of time.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
