Larry is smarter than your average lawyer. His 40 years of experience picked up on things that other expensive younger attorneys never thought about in my case which wasn't easy. He isn't about just "winning" his case, rather he looks at the big picture. He has a good heart and my family's life would not be the same today without him! His assistant Linda is always kind and courteous as well. Don't go anywhere else.

Wouldn't answer emails or phone calls. Two to three weeks later we would finally get a callback from him and when we asked him questions about our case it was like he blow us off not caring about our concerns. Doesn't explain things well, you have to constantly remind him of things that you want done. We also had to basicly pull his teeth to get anything done for us if he would even do them at all.

T Wickham Schmidt was referred to us by another Green Bay attorney. We called him 2 months ago. He said he did NOT have a conflict of interest with any parties we want to sue. Said he would represent us for $2,500. I wanted to think about it. On January 19, 2024, I called his office again to say that matter have gotten worse and we could not resolve this case with the other party. I told him that I could send him a detailed e-mail and He agreed to read it. I sent it Sunday, January 22, 2024. He wrote back to me saying he wanted $500 for an opinion on my case and some information to help us resolve it in small claims court. I wrote back saying we would send him $500 after we got some detailed and useful information with some questions answered. To our shock, we got today, January 24, 2024, a 2 sentence message saying HE COULD NOT REPRESENT US. No explanation. No anything. We are very upset that this lawyer, in whom we put our trust treated us in such a shabby manner. We sent him confidential information, and put our trust in confidentiality. I can only hope that he, at least, destroys the sensitive and confidential information and sends me a postal letter that he has not shared the information we provided with anyone else.

When going for a termination of divorce maintenance attorney Babcock seemed over booked or too busy to prepare for the hearing . I had to call to setup the final meeting before court. I also compiled relevant information on my disabilities and finances. When the court hearing day arrived he told the judge why I was asking for a termination he said health issues and then stopped talking. I did ask him to ask the judge the questions I formulated as well as present data I provided . He told me to stop talking . The judge dismissed it and I am now facing financial difficulties with disabilities. After we walked out he told to stop talking to during a hearing . He did put up a much better job of debating me outside the court room (about nudging him to talk ) than he had done in the court room. He was up against a 60 year old divorcee with no counsel present. He lost . He was non existent! He does a great job writing wills but in the court room I believe he is not cut out for it.

Greg, gives a great consultation, provides a great game plan, but when it comes to following the plan and executing it is a different story. Through the whole process I never felt as though he was on my side. This firm overcharges for the value you receive from the attorney. They are quick to run up a bill with "correspondences". Where things they accomplished take minutes to achieve and they charge a substantial rate for it. At the end of the day the other side was able to come away with the better end of the stick. I was very unhappy with the service received. Please vett a different attorney and check the ratings online before selecting. I write this so you do not waste your time and money. Make sure the attorney you choose actually cares about helping you and not just taking your money. Lesson learned.

I don’t know where to start, mr babcock first of all says yes I hear you over and over again. But I’m highly doubtful of that. Leading into court he instructs to give in to this give in to that. For over a year this goes. Then court doesn’t bring up important issues. His line of questions are all the ones that I supplied, when he asked if there were anything I could think of. He did mange to ask two questions that with a simple follow up question could have proved that but he didn’t. I’m not sure why he even asked any questions at that point. Child custody lawyer well hiring him was a huge mistake and has cost dearly. But he will get his well over 20, 000 and that the most important thing here. Now I can only pray this doesn’t happen to another person and or family. I had to give a star which is still to much

i hired Alf for assistance in my divorce and custody/placement battle. while the cost was high, you cant put a price on 50/50 custody and placement of children. especially as a father. he negotiated a fair property and debt split, helped me bring up and end shady behavior by my ex, and was, and still is, very understanding with payments. especially with the current covid crisis.

I hired Alf Langan for a family court case back in 2012. I wrote an honest poor review of my experience. Now he's disputing my review as if he never represented me. Here is my honest review below, as the original was removed due to his dishonest dispute. If you have this many Poor reviews and have also been disciplined as a lawyer, maybe you should take a look at your performance rather than get honest review removed. I hired this attorney for a very simple family court matter. I made a huge mistake. He does not respond very well to emails, if at all. He sent about 10 emails about a certain topic for NO reason as they were not getting us anywhere. Then I am charged for them. He charged me for part of my initial conversation with him, never telling me this until I see the bill. I waited 2 weeks for a call back and made 3 calls total before getting one back. He sent me a time sensitive email and implied that I needed to answer him and he would pass the answer to the parties involved and then he never did tell them. I left him a voicemail the same day regarding difficulties with the party because of his inaction and requested a call back asap because of this and it is now 2 full business days later and still no word. Today I hired a new attorney who has a much better rating than this man. In my opinion, do NOT waste your money. I have gone through almost $1,500 and all he did was go to one court date and send countless useless emails. Then I had to call him to let him know that these emails were useless and he wasn't listening to me. Although he seems like a nice man, as an attorney; get someone else.

The only good thing I can say is that he was good at keeping us informed regarding my worker's compensation case. After the case closed in March 2013, it was really hard to get in contact with him. He has been avoiding our phone calls (which we even diverted to calling his old law firm for help since he was with them while working on my case). I just needed to have him send in the necessary paper works regarding my work comp agreement to re-process the unpaid claims through my insurance company before they refuse to pay (the claims not covered under the worker's compensation agreement). It's now been on-going for the last 6 months that I still cannot get him to send in the necessary documents, so to me his action as a lawyer is the type of lawyer who just wants to get paid and not help you after he gets paid.

Dan did my parent and grandparents' estate documents. We had him also do ours which included a will, living revocable trust, power of attorney, health care power of attorney, joint marital property agreement, etc. The documents cost nearly $3,000 to prepare once additional fees were assessed for deed transfers which was about double what a colleague of mine had mine done for. However, we were willing to pay the extra amount to have things handled properly. Also we knew that he was familiar w/ my family's assets and documents and we held some joint properties so we thought it was worth the price. After the documents were completed we realized that an asset that was jointly owned w/ my parents was left vulnerable in the event of my death and would not securely pass to my children. Instead it would go to my husband even though my parents told him that it was to stay in the bloodlines (i.e. me, my children, etc.). When I questioned it, he said that that is what I told him to do and that he made notes to that affect. However, we never discussed how to handle that asset and I knew my parents had told him that it should remain in the bloodlines. He charged my family several hundred dollars to rectify the matter. When I asked him to share some responsibility in the matter and reduce his fees, he refused. Dan is polite, personable, and good at returning calls. However, I would not recommend him because of how this matter was handled.

I hired Att Marquette if you would to know how good of lawyer he is look up Parent vs Home Depot & Citi Bank and make your call on hiring his service or not. We spent over 5 years in federal court and thousands of dollars on a lawsuit that should have been open and settled with in 6 months. Home Depot and Citi Bank applied another persons credit card purchase to my credit card 6 months after the purchase and claimed it was mine to pay. Read the case! I lost because my Laywer filed under Wisconsin cousumer act. And had me settle with Citi Bank. And told me we will go after Home Depot. ( well wrong). The Judge though out my case because we can't sue Home Depot Under the WCA.because they do not collect the dedt. Or issue the C/C, Citi Bank does. And ask him why he did not try to collect the 25,000 I still owed him,and what happend in the case will Lee at the end.I would love to no his answer. He never gave as an answer. This cost me 4 lawsuits and 10,000 of thousand of dollars. Thanks

First off, he took on two cases that he had absolutely zero experience dealing with. This ultimately forced me to hire different attorneys. His neglect to name the proper defendants, pursue discovery or pay jury fees turned the cases into complete chaos and caused the litigation to drag on for several years and without true justice. The mistakes made, whether intentional or not, were so severe it made every other attorney question his ability to practice law. It appears his practice mostly consists of court appointed criminal defense cases at this juncture of his career. I would be leary even of that representation. Hired lawyers are supposed to work for you and protect your rights. There is nothing worse than an incompetent lawyer secretly trying to pursue his political goals while pretending to be pursuing justice! That sums up my experience with Mr. Wimberger.

Do Not Hire Her!!! She was my court appointed attorney...so she was basicly working for him...not me. FYI...if you can afford a non court appointed attorney..get one! She completely set me up. She did not return calls and emails, and did the very minimum to actually look like she was doing her job. She was allotted 20 hours by the judge. She wanted to make sure she used all 20 hours to get paid for all 20. When I didnt take the deal and insisted on a jury trial she had most of the hours used. She did not prepare at all for court, did not use any of the evidence to help with my defense, did not properly question witnesses....and the list goes on. She set me up so I would be convicted. Do Not Use Her!!!

Tom promised me I would get sole custody. Tom promised me he would ruin my wife. Tom promised me he would find my wife crazy or drive her there. Tom promised me I would walk away with everything! Tom promised me I would get child support. Tom promised me he would make my wife pay for leaving me. That is how he talked me into signing a retainer. He fought and fought. After he took my life savings 70 grand, he settled for nothing. I don't even know how I am going to live now. He needs to stop making promises he can't keep.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
