If I could give 0 stars, I would. I am in a wheelchair, fighting for custody of my child. I dropped $3,000 on this lawyer just for him to never return my calls, never answer, doesn’t call before court, is never prepared for court, but charges an arm & a leg. He has been on my case for 4 months & done absolutely nothing. He is too busy with his other cases to put the same amount of due diligence and care in each case. He will put you on the back burner for his more high profile cases. I feel like I have a public defender, not a paid lawyer. I’m a single mom in a wheelchair, I could’ve very well used my $3,000 on something else!

This attorney will bleed you dry with minimal results at best . I'd like to think that he doesn't "drop the ball" on every client but then again his track record is proving otherwise.

Mr. Evans represented our son in a juvenile case this year. He kept us well informed throughout the entire process, was always present and on-time on the days we had court. His advice was professional and he broke down legal terms in a way we could fully understand what was taking place. His expertise and service was invaluable during a difficult ordeal and achieved a reasonable outcome for our situation! He was really easy to talk to, his professionalism, demeanor and knowledge was the absolute best!

I retained Mr. Mark Conese's services three years ago. He has ALWAYS been fair and honest with me. You don't always like what he says but he always levels with you and tells the truth. When he tells you he'll do something, it gets done. I have recommended Mr. Conese's services to a number of friends and family members over the past few years and felt quite comfortable in doing so. Mark Conese works hard for his clients. His style is very professional yet warm and amiable. He can make you feel comfortable even in difficult situations. He's always available and keeps you informed through the entire process. I recommend Atty. Mark Conese for your legal issues. He's hard to beat!!

Horrible attorney! He literally did NOTHING to help my case. He filed paperwork and showed up to court. He spoke 4 sentences during my entire trial AND didnt even know my name in court. Literally the judge had to keep correcting him because he kept calling me another name. Rude AF and refused to appeal the case after he let the judge sentence me to the max EVERYTHING. I seriously could have done better with a public defender. I got 6 months in jail and it was 110% Dan Hurr's fault. I can't recommend to you guys enough NOT to trust this man.

My divorce dissolution is not depressed than but I was very depressed by this attorney. She is still my nightmare. I am wondering how could she graduated from law school. It is impossible. I never ever seen any attorney the same her. Lucky, She is working for Legal Aid. She does not care to learn or motivate on her career. Her law knowledge is zero. She make a big mess for writing degree with so many mistakes on language and even did wrong on calculation child support by formular basic which ruining my life. She threating me during proceeding whenever I found her mistake and make me have to agree because she doesn't want to take time to correct mistakes , if I don't agree then she threaten to withdraw my case and said attorney is cost a lot of money. If she want to make more money why don't she leave Legal Aid. I double with her selfish heart and no responsivity in work, there is no one hire her. She is abuser. She know she works for client without charge from legal aid. She treats client terrible. I double about her degree. I just want to review here to let anyone know in case if you have her to your case. You better to run away before she ruin your life. Here heart is really a cold heart. She never listen your story or whatever, never have eyes contact, disorganized work. Her threatening affect to my depressing. She is my nightmare. She always yell on phone. She never can work independent without Legal Aid hired her. She leave a big mess to my life due to her malpractice and take zero responsibility with her mistakes.

This attorney appears to only worried about his paycheck and not worry about the Compensation or the well being of his client my case was dismissed by workmans comp due to the fact that their law office faled update medical release and I had to work backwards to reinstate my workmans comp benefits at the same time they disregarded my last paycheck owed to me by the company that I was injured from release me due to inability to come off of light duty work even though they admitted on the timecard lesser hours but agreed they owed me money he refused to send any kind of legal document letter stating the fact of the Law policing companies from not paying employees when I brought it to his attention all he did was state it wasnt anything they specialized in and refused to address it even though I was being put in a predicament of hardship with paying my bills without my last check and he had no concerns for my payment to help compensate my family while off work I feel my attorney should find someone who specializes in collecting my last paycheck and work with me to gain this pay regardless of there specialties. You hire attorneys so that you can relax and get better knowing that someone is always every day every week every month on the job and help you get to a better place after being injured . The secretaries working at this law firm are very short , rude and uncompassionate for the clients calling in looking for help. They should not try to make you feel like you're less of a person while injured they should help you feel better as a person . Any attorney that allows a case to go backwards and have to fight backwards to gain that case back just shows the lack of effort and concern for the client

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
