My experience with DE CASTRO FODEN is extremely successful, since the first day that immigration offices detained me at my home address I felt confident whit the professionalism and honesty that Maria Luiza and Mary showed to me and my family. That never sold me dreams, never harassed me for money they just charged me what it was fair, even whit a rare and complicated case like mine was. I was detained in 2 different immigration facilities for 9 months and in desperate need of a lawyer that was willing to put all the effort my case was asking for, and all of that I found whit Mary and her team,I understood that they have their own way to work and they really know what they are doing, and now that I have the results in my hands I’m proud to say that my immigration Lawyer is a PIONEER, BECAUSE SHE TURNED MY CASE INTO A LAW, a case that had 0(zero) chance, just google MATTER OF FERREIRA and you can see whit your own eyes!NOW THE OVERCOME IS THAT IM A AMERICAN CITIZEN! THANK YOU MARIA, MARY AND ALL THE STAFF!!!!!! Gustavo

She was very focused, to her advantage she didn't take any BS, but if you were up front and honest she worked with you, my first encounter with her was at best horrible, when she saw I was honest and committed to getting through a bad situation she was a totally different person, due to her commitment my son has become a very special young man who was afforded everything he deserved, some times we judge people to soon, I am truly grateful for my association with this woman

She is all about the money and not the best interest of the child. She will bill and bill for work not done! Kids hated going to her office, doesn't like when you write a check to her law office, wanted cash then I realized I was stupid I did money orders, she wanted it made out to HER, not her law office. Fishy! I finally got her removed from my case after years!

Steer clear of Rhonda. All she wants to do is sit in family court and bill hours on end. She is supposed to represent my child whom she does not interact with, she doesn't take recommendations from the therapist, she isn't willing to discuss her own recommendations, and frankly she just doesn't know the best interest of a child. Oh, but wants to be paid yesterday! She is somehow simultaneously useless and obstinate. The worst excuse of a professional ever.

I've used him, and his associates in multiple cases over the years, I always was worried as most people would be in any legal battle. I was more than happy at the end of each case. I also referred friends to him whom were also more than satisfied. He is a straight shooter and even gave me his personal cell if I ever needed to talk. I highly recommend him for any matter He has a wonderful group of attorney's and fits your case with the best for your situation as he did in all my legal troubles. I clicked 3-5 lawyers have represented me but all were through Martin. He always kept me informed and in some cases did much better than he originally stated. Thank you attorney Gold I am now using his associate for my divorce I have the highest confidence I will be completely satisfied with my representation maybe not the divorce but life is hard sometimes. Call Him for any legal needs you will not be disappointed FYI I am a real client and this review in no way is false.

My aunt fell on a defective grate in Connecticut owned by the electric company. This attorney and his associates had this claim in their hands for two years following the accident and did nothing in her behalf up until the day that she died. It is questionable to our large family, that this attorney is not covering up for the electric company.

Beware of Matt J Costello a difficult attorney who: • Drags out cases by being unresponsive or intentionally antagonistic in his responses. • Adds fuel to the fire to extend cases and force litigation. • Seem to charge huge sums for little work or poor quality work. • Appears in court unprepared and he commands little respect from the court. • Abuses substances that diminish his abilities and effectiveness. • Treats everyone poorly including his clients.

This individual doesn't follow through on tasks. Comes unprepared trying to wing it in proceedings. Leaves the court more confused and his history of working for the state plays into him getting over 650 accused found guilty cases due to his contract with the government. Look at his case history never protected a client or defended them to a not guilty disposition. How incompetent characters like this are tolerated is beyond belief. Guess this is why attorneys get bad raps because nobody holds them accountable til now. See you Matt at the trial for your removal from the bar degenerate.

He allowed the defense to enter in a written phone message, that was fake, in order to taint my character. The message was fabricated, and he said, "there is nothing we can do about it". The article that led to this trial, was not admissable, while a workers compensation injury, was allowed, that was irrelevant. Had he gone through my medical records, he would have noticed, that this "trumped up" message, was non-existent. I paid for my records, and the "message" is not there. There is no follow-up appointment or police report over this "message". If it was real, there would be.

My own experience goes like this: Budless says: I will require a retainer of $10,000. You : pay $10,000 and nothing happens for months Budless: well he will finally get around to filing worthless motions that just eat up your retainer. Budless says: Give me $15,000 and I guarantee I will get your legal fees back. Budless says: we need another $10,000 for doing nothing. Budless says: This is an outrage , unjust we are taking this to trial! Budless says: another $5,000 for doing less than nothing. You say: I'm out of money! Budless says: don't worry about the money. A year or so later. Budless says: I will leave this court room right now in the middle of this trial if you don't pay me more money. Oh, don't forget to expect a written closing argument to your divorce trial that will cost about $10,000.00 . Why, because verbal closing arguments cost almost nothing. Budless: screaming at his entire staff like they are garbage. Budless: files a law suite to collect his "legal" fees. You: file your own legal malpractice lawsuit. I can't express to you the level of incompetents I experiences with Michael Budless in the drivers seat. I wish someone would have written the truth about Budless before I hired him. He will take a bad situation and make it 1000 x worse. It takes years to recover from the damage caused by a bad attorney. I am taking the time out of my life to write this most honest review. Not to harm Budless because well he is what he is. But, to warn unsuspecting innocent people of this type of predation.

Upon recommendation of a friend, I retained Mr. Budlong. I thought I was in good hands when he showed me all his pictures of him with famous people. That was the first sign that his ego was more important than my case. Mr. Budlong does not take the time to educate his clients. He pushed me to make snap decisions that I have regretted for years. As I was being steam rolled by the other attorney's, Mr Budlong kept asking me "do you want to get divorced or not".

Overcharged by at least $1000! Most of contact through emails. Referred by another professional we use. The original email from Atty. Reynolds included his rate and paralegal rate. Spoke briefly and then some personal issues came up so did not connect until a year later. Our wills were already available from late 90’s and were given to him. Wanted updates and revisions. Basic will and living will. Fee was absolutely ridiculous and that was after a professional courtesy discount. He claimed that he spent 11 hours of his time in it and did not bother to tell me that he no longer had a paralegal who would have just done the draft. No, paralegals do more than drafts. He said that if I had gone to a big Hartford law firm, I would hav3 paid $5,000. Was defensive and rude when I called him about bill but I just wanted a basic conversation. Was so disappointed and felt so taken advantage of. Would never recommend him and have shared my experience with many.

Not a good lawyer... Based on my experience working with this attorney I would look else where. Did not represent my interests and mostly focused on billing me as much as he could get away with. Michele D Sensale failed to present important information showing that all payments on my home have been made. As a result, the judge ruled that I was in default on the mortgage and my family lost our home. When I wished to speak to her regarding the results of the case a few days later, I wasn't able to get a hold of her until 5 days went by. She denied any wrong doing when I asked her why she didn't present certain information to help my case. I highly recommend you stay away from this attorney. In summary, engaging Attorney James Ruel proved financially and legally Ruinous. See details below. **Mediation Proceedings and Abandonment *4/21/15 Engaged Atty James Ruel to review mediated Lump-Sum (LS) settlement. *Ruel was strongly against LS & favored paying alimony for 11 years,132 alimony payments *I directed Ruel to pursue LS agreement only *9/28/15 Mediated LS settlement approved by all parties Mediated LS (near final) total cost = $15K *Ruel convinced parties to leave mediation by stating that the LS agreement would never be Judge approved due to my age and amount of savings. *My appeals lawyer contradicted Ruel’s statement as did the Judge’s approval of a LS agreement reached during the appeal. **Ruel Competency Issues *Ruel failed abide by his fiduciary and competent representation duties driving costs from 15K to $350K *Inaccurate financial models were run by Ruel team members lacking any accounting or financial planning SME or industry certifications necessary to identify model output errors or to competently analyze financial offers from spouse. *My post-divorce financial health was predicated on having accurate financial models *Model’s inaccuracy forced an emergency 401K withdrawal of $125K and an associated tax penalty of $1000 per month for 36 months. *Ruel’s discovery process failed to ask spouse for information about any uncollected alimony or child support awards from her 1st marriage. *My appeals lawyer identified $100K of assets due to spouse from 1st husband that she chose not to collect or to ask the court’s assistance to do so. **Ruel Advocacy Shortcoming** *Opposing Counsel OC subjected me to constant character assassinations and baseless accusations during negotiating calls and in front of the special masters. *Pleas to Ruel to address OC’s behavior were met with condescension (e.g. quote from Ruel’s response to intervention request, "I can address OC’s behavior or get this agreement finalized, which do you want?” *My response was I want both to be addressed and Ruel chose not to call out OC’s behavior. *Refused to support audit request to verify compliance of OC’s billing against client funded retainer. *Violated fiduciary duty by joining with OC to belittle me regarding above *Allowed OC to cover for constant missed deadlines *Above caused increased time/expense for travel, wasted PTO &months of increased time/cost to finalize divorce. *Ruel failed to inform me that If it is clear your spouse is wasting your time and money, you can petition to have them pay for a portion or all of your divorce attorney fees and that the fees must be consistent with normal industry parameters *Ruel responded to post divorce requests for assistance with reopening the settlement by saying there were no viable options and that I should live with it.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
