Attorney Lozano handled the case of my three minor grandchildren whose father is a naturalized citizen. These grandchildren of mine are children out of wedlock and their mother is my niece. All documents for legal claims and evidence submitted by attorney Lozano to immigration were all approved resulting arrival of my grandchildren here in states in no time.

Being in a removal proceeding was so scary. One San Francisco Downtown lawyer advised me to just go on a voluntary departure. My wife says "Let's try Atty Crispin Lozano". Atty Lozano gave me hope to be united with my family. November 2011, the U.S. Immigration Court granted my request for a Waiver of Misrepresentation and I become eligible for naturalization.

Mr. Thornton is very thorough and addressed all the issues in my case - many I was not aware of before I became represented. He was up front with me about my choices so I could make the best decisions about resolving my claim. His staff are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend his services. His office location is great and was very easy for me to get to.

I hired Mr. Thornton for the purposes of helping me with my horrific work accident. At first all was well and I felt as if a weight lad lifted off my shoulders. However as my case grew I started noticing my calls were never returned. Settlement negotiations happened without my knowledge. The only good thing about this office is the secretary. That poor girl. She juggles everything for Brian and I've seen how smoothly that office runs because of her. Andrina always returned my calls and always assured that she had given my messages to brian. it was brian whom never returned my calls, emails, nothing. I had to walk away. Hopefully i can find another attorney to take my case. -M.Brosnan

Mr. BJ Thornton has surpassed my expectations as my attorney. I have been represented by 3 other WC attorneys previous to Mr. Thornton. He is attentive, reliable, and responsible in his representation of my WC case. In addition, his professionalism and attention to detail provides me with a worry free interaction with the court system. I highly recommend Mr. Thornton to any person who wishes to have the best legal representation available.

We initially sought the services of Lenora Roland Taylor in 2007. She was highly recommended by our very respected tax person. Upon working with Ms. Roland Taylor, we understood why we had been referred to her. Ms. Roland Taylor is professional, well-informed, responsive, and calm. We interject the descriptor "calm" because IRS issues are anxiety ridden, and Lenora Roland Taylor allays those anxieties by proceeding quickly, yet calmly, in a focused manner. We were so satisfied by the service we received in 2007 that we, again, asked Ms. Roland Taylor to work on our behalf recently. She repeated the same high quality of work with the IRS. A process that might take up to a year was culminated in only several months. We credit Ms. Roland Taylor's efficiency and follow up with such positive outcomes. Without reservation, we would recommend Ms. Roland Taylor to family and friends. We have been completely satisfied, on two occasions, with the assistance she afforded us.

$500 for a one hour CONSULTATION fee that’s ridiculous that’s unheard of most people give you a free consultation or a very low fee consultation. I understand if that’s her hourly rate but all I needed was to ask one question because I can’t find the answer anywhere else. She obviously doesn’t care very much for people who are unable to pay such an amount just to get a consultation. She’s robbing people that need help charging that much for a consultation That’s a shady attorney right there

I interviewed them in 3 different conversations and they were too busy to answer my questions. Both women on staff brushed me off, and one even accused me of dishonesty when I asked how long it would take to rebuild my credit score. If they treat you like this BEFORE you give them your money, imagine how it would be after.

this lawyer is a bankruptcy lawyer and takes your fee and files it only. she will not do anything other than that. my case almost got dismissed by the court a few times because emails and calls are ignored. her receptionist screens her calls and tells you they took care of things, filed papers, etc just to appease you. save your money, car, house, etc. and get a different bk lawyer. her father was good, she is not like him at all.

Terrible useless attorney. I hired this attorney, paid retainer, and he sat on my money for over 4 months without doing a thing. Did not file with the courts or anything. The attorney later suggested he did research on how to deal with my case, and therefore charged me $400. The research was no different than what we both already knew. It's was more along the lines of confirmation research of what we already knew. This attorney is as useless as a bucket without the bottom. Does not return calls or e-mails. I literally had to show up in person numerous times to discover he has yet to file or even prepare my case. Attorney kept making promises he could not keep.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:

If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
