Ms. Deri was awesome. She handled 2 closings for me at the same time (closing for a sale of a co-op and thereafter a closing for a purchase of a co-op). I also referred her to my bro-in-law whose original lawyer messed up and she took over her transactions. I highly recommend her. Very fair, very attentive.

We would like to thank Lynn Deri for helping us buy and sell our Apartment in New York City in 2003 and 2020, respectively. Lynn was very patient with us when we called her and asked her questions that we didn’t understand, and was always prompt to answer our questions by phone, email or by mail. Lynn did a great job negotiating the contract terms and conditions with the buyer’s attorney and always carefully reviewed the documents. She is highly professional and experienced and very meticulous. She is also extremely organized, including in handling the paperwork. Lynn took her time at the both closings explaining without any rush to us every paragraph in the contract in simple and easy to understand terms. Lynn did a lot of research for us other attorneys may not always bother to do at no extra cost. Her fees were very reasonable for the amount of work she did for us. We even asked her if she was getting paid enough. Lynn is not only a highly qualified lawyer but also has a wonderful personality. We highly recommend Lynn Deri.

Ms. Deri is the best lawyer I have ever met. I had many problems at closing and post closing with the attorney I hired but Ms. Deri, who I didn't know before I buy the house, was able to review all documents and answer all my questions as if that was her own case. I truly recommend her to everyone who wants to have peace of mind and relax after purchasing a house.

I have heard most of the stereotypes referring to lawyers, but Mr. Napolitano does not fit any of them. Professional, courteous and informative, this lawyer kept my interest in the forefront at all times. With his finger on the pulse of the community, Mr. Napolitano navigated my wife and I through some tough issues, resolving each situation with his guidance and compassion. Every referral he made was excellent and resolved in a timely fashion. My wife and I thank God for his services and highly recommend him for whatever service you may need, because he is truly a servant of the people.

My Mom, who has Alzheimer’s disease was being denied adequate care by the insurance company after having asked for it several times. I retained Nancy Brady, hoping that she could help me get the care she needs. Nancy Brady gathered all the proof needed to show how my mom needed the care and went up against the insurance company and WON first time! Thanks to Nancy, my mom will now have the care she deserves for the duration of her life with this devastating disease! I highly recommend Nancy, who as a nurse and attorney knows what needs to be done to achieve results. She kept me informed every step of the way and taught me many things I was not aware of with regard to elder law! Would never use anyone else!

In 2017 thanks to a recommendation from friends, we began the process of setting up a trust and beginning to plan for my parents’ later years. Near the end of 2021 as I was well into the planning stages for my father to be around longer than my mother the script was suddenly changed. I again reached out to Brady and Bader for advice and soon after I finished gathering up the needed paperwork to begin planning my mother's long-term care, my mother passed as well. Brady and Bader have supported my family every step of the way. I finally turned to Brady and Bader to serve as my real estate attorney on my parents’ house which was in the trust and everything went smoothly. I definitely recommend their services.

TERRIBLE!!!! AWFUL!!! This law firm has caused so much anxiety for me! Josephine is RUDE as hell! This staff is weird! Never spoken to Scott before only to his assistants. They kept prolonging to give me my money they gave me only 10,000 of it in OCTOBER of last year and they told me I was going to get the rest of my money in February of THIS year and I never did! Josephine called me today to tell me I won’t be getting the rest of my money smh!!! This place is sooooo unprofessional and I literally recommend you to go anywhere else but here! All the pain and suffering I’ve been dealing with because of these people ! How are you going to lie to your client about getting money and then tell me I’m not going to get the money! What was the whole point of doing a lawsuit then?!? This place is unprofessional and disgusting!

I called the HB office and spoke to this attorney about a consult and had a very bad experience. She was rude and kept interrupting me, which I felt was very unprofessional. It seemed like she was in a rush and unwilling to listen to me.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
