Negative stars, every time I call the office or go up to the office to speak to someone regarding my past due balance to or to set up payment arrangements . . . no response, no return call, no return email, nothing at all. This "law firm" is not reputable AT ALL! They only want to try to take money from citizens. I guess they force your hand into getting a real lawyer to combat their derelict behavior.

Kevin was fantastic. He helped me out with an expungement. He kept me up to date on the process and was just overly helpful and informative. It was a quick and swiftly dealt with ordeal and I cannot recommend him enough.

I am a poor starving artist who really messed up to the point where I needed a lawyer to get me out of deep trouble a few years back. I mean it wasn't like criminal bad stuff. It was just me being drunk and outta control and doing some really stupid stuff and I got caught! But like no one would take my case and they was all too expensive anyways. Then I found Kevin and he took my case right away. And he was so much cheaper then the other guys too. In conclusion if you think you don't have money for a lawyer then think again and call Kevin Willis. Oh, he did not get me off the hook but he tried lots of crazy ways to do it and the judge did not throw the book at me either. So if you don't have much money and you messed up, and no lawyer wants to take your case, I am telling you that Kevin is your guy.

I hired Kevin to help represent me and my partner in two separate but related issues. Altogether we were doing business with him for a little over a year. I spoke to and had consultations with several other lawyers before choosing Kevin. In the one case, he helped drastically mitigate damages we knew we were facing in a small claims suit filed against us. We were never going to win but the costs were made manageable. In the separate case, we ended up settling for an amount in our favor that made this whole nightmare of a situation a win for all of us overall. He was professional and courteous, even when faced with a bullish and condescending opposing counsel. At all points in the case, Kevin helped clarify the language and ensured I knew what was happening before it happened. He had opportunities to enrich himself further, but instead took the honorable and integrous path to his own detriment. He cared that the result was good for his client and not just himself. It's too easy to criticize someone, anonymously, over the internet, especially from a position where you may not understand or even be aware of applicable law. Any potential client should sit down with multiple lawyers and see how they communicate with you. Make sure that you choose the right personality to represent your position. If you don't know how to communicate effectively with your lawyer about what your hopes/expectations are at each stage, then you're bound to be disappointed, regardless of outcome. You will be happy with your choice in Kevin, as long as you understand that when it comes to litigation, no party gets exactly the outcome they want.

I contacted Mr. Taylor to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy... charged me 1235 for the cost of Attorney fees and the actual filing. I paid in full by check.... took him2 weeks to cash it so I constantly had to check my account to make sure I did not over check thinking I had money I did not have. After I returned the required paperwork. He asked us to come in and sign the next week.... I scheduled and appointment on my husbands lunch break as he worked full time and we only had one car. When we showed up we sat in his office for 35 min while he was on the phone with 'a new client '. No one greeted us told us he might be late or anything, we ended up saying we had to go as my husband was late getting back from lunch. When trying to reschedule they were very inconsiderate of the fact that my husband worked and couldn't change his schedule on a whim..... we were going to the Kokomo office... not once did he mention he had another office in Indianapolis..if his two day a week schedule at this office didnt work. We missed the second scheduled appointment due to our children we called several times to talk to him or even his receptionist..... no one EVER calls you back you just have to keep calling until they answer, and you get sperotic email responses. We ended up moving out out state quite suddenly for a job offer, it took us 3 weeks to finally reach him to even discuss the options we now had as being out of state. I emailed him the updated information as he requested over the phone, and informed him that my husband and I had decided a refund ( of 789, kinda low for the amount of work he actually did and the fact we couldnt reach him, hadnt signed or filed or anything!!) Was best for us. I waited a week and heard nothing back no conformation or anything. My husband finally called and HE LIED and told my husband he had emailed me that he would issue the refund. Needless to say he told my husband he would mail the check that day (this was at 9am on Monday). Now we have bills this money needed to pay so that we could get back on our feet after moving so when friday came along i was like ok itll probbly come tuesday as it was a holiday weekend.... its been almost 3 weeks now i got an insurance cancelation notice in the mail, so I call and ask about the check.... its sitting on the receptionists desk. And when i say ok so you are mailing it tomorrow so it should be here in like a week 5-7 days she rudely informs me she doesnt know when I will receive it just that shes mailing it out tomorrow. ( which is hilarious because theyre closed Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) ..... over all rude, poor communication skills, inconsiderate of client circumstances, very Unprofessional ..... and beyond horrible time management... as if filing bankruptcy wasnt difficult in itself, having to hold off and loosing insurance on the car you need to keep a job youve been out of for 1 1/2 yrs because he LIED and didnt mail the refund out as he said is ridiculous. Worst lawyer I've ever dealt with..... crook is what some might say.

I had the unfortunate need to contact Mr. Taylor's office for a bankruptcy solution. His office was easy to find and quite accomodating. Mr. Taylor provided suggestions to assist my family until it was finalized. I would highly suggest him to anyone else requiring bankruptcy assistance.

Tim helped me on my mothers wrongful death after a hernia surgery. I worked with him from April of 2015 just weeks after my moms passing until June of 2019 when the other side settled. I didn't have a dime out of my pocket and was amazed at what he was able to do for our family. His staff are great and as you can imagine I came to know very well in 4 years and I'm thankful for them as well.

Tim seemed like a nice guy. After telling me that "he worked for me," he abruptly informed me that he was not interested in being micromanaged as he would not enjoy that. He withdrew from representing me, leaving me hanging. Apparently, he is out for himself, not a champion for victims of medical malpractice. Do not retain this guy.

Mr. Dearing is a well-seasoned veteran who often thinks outside-the-box to reach favorable results for the lowest costs possible. I have used his services on a variety of environmental and regulatory matters and have never been disappointed. He always discusses strategies well in advance of executing them in order to keep me (the client) well-informed. He returns all calls and emails within a day, which is quite rare with most attorneys. He has my highest recommendation!

What follows is my opinion, nothing more. My wife and I hired David Dearing to help us with a zoning issue with the City of Indianapolis. We use many attorneys, including for our business, and for family law (Wills, etc.), so are extremely familiar with hiring, and working with a lawyer. We have never been anything but happy with our choices, and we still use them as needed, but we needed a zoning specialist, so we found David on line and hired him. I am sorry to say that we were extremely disappointed with him. First of all, he provided us with an estimate, and his charges ended up being MUCH MUCH higher than that estimate, and to make matters worse, we were not happy with him, and cancelled his services before the hearing even took place, so we felt that his charges should have been less than the estimated amount. Wow, were we wrong. In the end, we hired someone else, and so far, we are very happy with them. Again, this is just my opinion, and I make no specific claims, and your experience might be different. That being said, my wife and I were not at all happy with his services, and we would absolutely not recommend him.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
