He is Over rated. Engle is slow and too old. He was very bad at his line of questioning, took a long time to get to point. He didn't get to the point of the questions i laid out for him. Judge had to tell him to move it along. The judge and Prosecutors look like they know that he has trouble getting to the point and show him up and cut him off. He definitelyisnt no trial lawyer. I paid him $2000 up front. Keep me out of Jail and keep my job. He wasn't able to do either one. I was thrown in jail by Grant. Myself amd my witnesses never even got to speak. Even the bailiff told me he didn't know why he was taking me to jail. And his Injunction I paid $1000 for, was useless. I was robbed and cleaned out by Theif legally. It was a set up by a c9n artist and everyone knew it and didnt care. They got their pound of flesh from me. He couldn't even protect my property. Then he sent me a bil for another $2000. I refuse to pay for his incompetence. He needs to retire. He is way past is sell date.

Ron and his office staff were great to work with in getting me a settlement from a fall on ice that resulted in a dislocated, broken shoulder. Even though I live in Kalamazoo, all of our transactions were able to take place over the phone and through email. I would strongly recommend Marienfeld Law.

It was a pleasure meeting with attorney Amy Tripp. She is very easy to communicate with, she listens to what you have to say and gives you an honest answer. Attorney Amy Tripp takes her time to address our concerns and priorities and explains things so we could understand. She is very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I have alot of confidence and trust in her abilities. She is handling our estate planning and Trust, she is extremely familiar with ssi rules and regulations. The entire staff is tremendously helpful and nice. It's worth the price for a piece of mind knowing it will be done right. I would highly recommend her and her Law firm

I can’t praise Amy and her staff enough. Amy helped me get my will in order after my husband died, and set up a trust for our autistic son. While in the trust process, Amy discovered that he was not receiving the services for which he was entitled. Dealing with the government agencies to get him all set up can be a nightmare – which Amy’s social worker, Megan, took on. Megan had the knowledge, resources, and persistence to jump in and take care of business! Now he is all set, and I have a caring, knowledgeable team for support. Worth every single penny for that kind of peace of mind.

Retaining Mick for a recent custody battle was the best choice I could’ve made. He’s responsive, knowledgable, agile, and forward thinking. He knows family law forward and backward, and I had complete faith in him and our game plan throughout the whole process. Our results were absolutely incredible, despite what was thrown at us throughout the process from opposition. We got everything we asked for. If you live in Jackson County and need an attorney, Mick Falahee is hands down the best choice you can make. I give he, and the firm, my highest recommendation. Thank you for representing me and my family!

I always find it interesting when someone writes an "anonymous" review. My assumption is that the writer of the 1-star review from Sept of 2022 was not a client of mine. It was probably a person on the opposite side of a case who suffered an adverse outcome because of my client's preparation and my representation.

Attorney Falahee works in the gray area of the law. If you are looking for someone to advise you on how to get away with criminal activity - this is the Attorney to hire. He does not adhere to the ethical guidelines set forth by the state bar of Michigan. He will also provide fictitious information to cover up his own ‘dirty work.’ If you are looking for an Attorney who has integrity do not hire this guy.

I hired Benjamin Whiting to represent me for an evidentiary hearing which didn’t ever occur. Benjamin DID NOT do any work on my case whatsoever beyond notifying the court he would be appearing as my attorney for the evidentiary hearing which did not happen. My court dates were switched several times by the court- yet this did not encourage Benjamin to contact me via phone/email in regard to my case. I attempted to discuss a witness list with Benjamin- he refused. I attempted to ask Benjamin when and how we would be subpoenaing said witnesses- I received no response. I gave Benjamin a $3,000 retainer where he did nothing for months, & in June after going almost an entire month while attempting to reach Mr. Whiting I chose to terminate him. Mr. Whiting returned $1600 of my money. Rather than solely charging me for the appearance he’d put into the court, Mr. Whiting made up various jobs surrounding my case which he did not do reflected on the invoice. I asked him to describe those jobs, or provide proof- he has since refused to respond to me. I can promise he didn’t do them because he wouldn’t (and couldn’t) quote the issues within my case (he couldn’t when I chose to terminate him) and this is because in the months while I waited for my new date- Mr. Whiting and I did not communicate about my own case for a total of 6o minutes. TWICE I believed I had court on a following Monday and neither time Mr. Whiting was prepared for the hearing I had paid him for. It was only luck of the draw those dates were re-arranged, but it doesn’t negate this attorneys decision to remain unprepared. We didn’t discuss ANY of the evidence I felt I had compiled for the case- because we didn’t discuss anything beyond the bare bones initially. Mr. Whiting took my retainer with the bare bones info he had, entered himself as my attorney, & charged me more than $1400 of a $3000 retainer which at this point would have seemingly been spent even though we NEVER MADE IT to the hearing. I will be communicating with the Michigan bar for over-billing and what next steps I can take in this process. I wanted to write a review to prevent people from spending their money with this man. Should you choose Mr. Whiting as representation, please consider my review in case you also end up needing to file against Mr. Whiting for over-billing. I only hired this man because I wanted new eyes on my case- I do not want others to make the same mistake if they’re able to prevent it.

Rip off. Paid him over 10k for one court appearance that was not even 30 minutes, and to file 2 motions. He didn't file the original divorce correctly, not including very pertinent information. He goes through a company called marble so he can blame the rip off on them, but he was contracted through them for a reason, and that reason was to get paid over 10 thousand dollars for about 2 hours of work. There should be laws preventing lawyers from taking advantage of people like this...

She was very rude and did not care about my divorce case at all. My ex husband’s lawyer would send her emails about the case and she would ignore them for days. I would call and call and never hear back. If you do not have money or a well know last name in the area she doesn’t care. I should have read the reviews before I hired her. Be smart and go else were.

I would not recommend this lawyer if you are going through a divorce with young children. I hired her and she did not fight for me rather she gave my ex every materiel item except for a vehicle. My ex destroyed the vehicle I was awarded as he filled it with trach and water along with taking off the tires and items from under the hood and dash. I had to give it away! She did nothing. She also did nothing when he made malicious complaints for 2 years that drained my mother's bank account. His complaints were all dismissed and then he would make more just to complain. She kept taking my mothers money without stopping this individual from all of these unmerited complaints. I had to hire a new lawyer to try to put into place what she should have done from the beginning. She allowed a unstable individual to have excessive parenting time. I have finally gotten it reduced due to his neglect and abuse. I would not hire this lawyer again, if you have young children, keep looking.

Absolutely the worst prosecuting attorney ever! Didn’t even let victims talk or tell what happened to them. Didn’t even want to hear about proof to use to be able to prove that accused is guilty. And, several incidents during trial that even Court room attendees not affiliated with case said he’s been bought off and if I Ever am in need of a prosecuting attorney it won’t ever be him. I have never seen a more bought off prosecuting attorney than him

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
