I have known Daniel for 7 years, when we first met as classmates at NYU Law School. He is an outstanding lawyer, a great friend and someone who cares deeply about his clients and their needs. Daniel is also a brilliant strategist and has a unique gift of anticipating potential challenges ahead of time and taking the necessary steps to preempt them. I have relied on him over the years as a colleague on numerous legal matters, and have also sought his counsel on some of my own matters as well - always with an outstanding result. Although his practice specializes in helping accident victims, Daniel is versatile enough that I would also fully endorse him to anyone who needs help with any type of litigation dispute.

I have consulted with Mr. Steinbok on a couple of legal matters over the years and retained him to represent me on an employment matter. I was very pleased with his attention to detail, promptness in addressing my concerns and overall professionalism. I will certainly use him again should I need the services of an attorney and will be sure to recommend him to friends and family.

In the most desperate moment of my life, I came to Gary Ginsburg through the recommendation of an old classmate who had become a partner in a Wall St. law firm, and who was himself a bankruptcy attorney. He said: "When our firm has a problem in bankruptcy law that even we are not sure to handle, we consult Gary." My first meeting with Ginsburg lasted more than two hours. At the end of it, my classmate was eager to learn Ginsburg's proposed course of action. When I explained it, my friend shook his head in wonder. "It's genius," he said, "It wouldn't have occurred to me. It wouldn't occur to any lawyer because it is a solution that is least profitable for the lawyer. But it's clearly the most brilliant solution."

Most people hire attorneys to represent them in a bankruptcy situation only to realize later that they are not well versed in bankruptcy nuances. In my instance I hired someone who claimed to know bankruptcy law and almost lost the entire case. I then hired Gary Ginsburg who salvaged my case from complete disaster to total success.

Paul answered my every call. If for some reason he couldn’t speak to me immediately he always arranged a specific time to call me back. He is transparent and yet discreet. He is thorough with paperwork and drafting of contracts. He is excellent at bringing all parties to the closing table. He's professional but cordial. Paul is diligent, straightforward and he gets to the point quickly. He doesn't make things up. If he doesn't know an answer, he will tell you later after he does some research. He’s busy but he will always make time for you as his client. He takes his clients seriously. He is honest, decisive, and approachable. He will never give you an answer off the top of his head. He will never just tell you what you want to hear. He is an expert, and he knows all the forms that you need to fill out and won’t let you get off schedule leading up to the closing. He has a sense of humor for those tense moments. He will get you to the closing table and get you out quickly when the deal is done. Again, he is thorough, and he crosses the T s and dots the I s. I’m so glad I had him to advocate for me. With Paul’s help we had the best outcome! He’s a true real estate law genius.

I recently applied for and received my green card through marriage with the help of Adam Sanders. He was highly recommended by a friend who previously retained him and also had a successful case. Adam and Maria were absolutely fantastic to work with and made the entire process as smooth and stress free as possible for my wife and I. They were available every step of the way to answer questions and set our minds at ease. We are incredibly grateful for everything they did for us and we highly recommend them for anyone looking to go through this process!

Go to guy if you need a ticket fixed in Lawrence or Cedarhurst. Also seems politically well connected in Nassau county local courts. A little hard to communicate with since he doesn't have an office or a telephone and desen't know how to use email. The only way to contact Goldman is throgh a beeper, which he may or may not answer. Not the kind of guy to go to for complex or sophisticated work. While generally a nice fellow, he can be tempermental and doesn't seem to display much client loyalty.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
