Attorney Joshua Baron brought me a lot of clarity on my legal matters and was very kind and understanding of my situation. At all times I was kept in the loop of what was possible and what was going to happen moving forward in my legal process. I have never needed an attorney before in my life, but I am proud to have had the great assistance that Joshua Baron provided.

Josh and his team made an extremely stressful experience much less stressful. Josh is very compassionate in helping people in legal situations no one wants to ever find themselves in. Don't hesitate to give Josh a call if you find yourself in a legal situation needing the help of an expert.

Had a consultation with Josh at SB Legal and would absolutely recommend these guys to anyone and everyone. Came across as very professional, matter of fact, and honest. You can tell integrity matters which is very reassuring when looking for representation. 5 stars without a question!

In the Rules of Professional Conduct, it says: As advocate, a lawyer zealously asserts the client's position under the rules of the adversary system. This is hard to do when you don’t listen to your client’s position. Doug Thayer at Durham Jones & Pinegar barely listens to your position. The rules also state: The lawyer should also consult with the client and seek a mutually acceptable resolution of the disagreement. Doug does very little consulting. He bosses. He has little recognition that clients are experts in their circumstances and goals. As I would try to get him to consider something, he would quickly dismiss it with something like, “end of story.” He is constantly reminding you how he is the expert, yet he was losing about half my hearings even though I have a good case. He would regularly threaten withdrawing by saying things like, “If you don’t agree, I’ll withdraw." His ego also blinds him to creative solutions, which was greatly needed in our complex case. Doug and firm were slow at responding to questions and moving the case forward, which is also against a rule of conduct. We would send them emails with questions and they would regularly take days to respond or not at all. His firm would wait weeks to file motions, delaying an already slow court process. He originally told us we could be done in August, and now in January we aren’t even close. The judge at my last hearing expressed concern that my petition to modify had been moving along too slowly. He wanted us to move faster to trial. As Doug and his firm were contributing towards the slowness, we asked him if he could focus on the main trial and let us take care of the superfluous motions my ex-wife was filing. This would keep the cost down, but he rigidly refused, saying this court process is just expensive. Yet, he could have chosen to work with us rather than run his lucrative machine. They would file unnecessarily long motions to add to the cost. Once, the judge would not enforce sanctions for my attorney fees because of the excess cost of writing the long motion. Even when the judge told him he didn’t need to write so much, and when we asked him to keep them more concise, he said he has to respond to every detail of my ex-wife’s ramblings. As one of his colleagues said in a review, he has a reputation for running his clients’ bills up. Then, to top it off, as he dismissed himself from the case to the judge, he stabbed me in the back by telling the judge I swore at him and threatened him (with bad reviews). This is the judge who will hear my request for custody modification. This behavior goes against another rule of professional conduct: A lawyer should keep in confidence information relating to representation of a client so far as disclosure is required. Doug Thayer has a big ego, he’s rigid, unprofessional, he will run up your bill, and he’s not that good at winning.

Doug Thayer and Dave Nielson are the two finest attorneys I could have hired. My family’s life was strung out in the courts for seven years. We had already been through three previous attorneys before I was referred to Doug Thayer. He can be intimidating, especially if you’re wired sensitively from past abuse. I almost let Doug’s abrupt, confrontational style scare me off when I first met him. But I knew I was shopping for a fighter, not a friend; and hiring Doug was one of the best decisions of my life. His initially intimidating style made him an incredible attorney able to wage a winning battle in court. I had an extremely complicated, sordid case, with mountains of evidence, that previous attorneys never bothered to investigate. Dave Nielson combed through EVERY piece of evidence for my case, leaving no stone unturned. Doug and Dave fought relentlessly for me, to protect my children. Though there is nothing worse than having your life in the hands of the courts, Doug and Dave are proof that even in an unjust system, there are still lawyers with integrity who will fight for the truth. It would take pages to describe all the ways my attorneys fought fearlessly, but a few examples... They uncovered the truth that a psychological evaluation report held as evidence in the court for 16 months, had been doctored and falsified. They challenged and turned upside down the unfounded, inaccurate reports of an unscrupulous reunification therapist. They stationed a process server outside the home of a witness the very day she was to return from an extended period out of state, having won their motion to re-subpoena her after she refused to answer questions. They sought out the best expert witnesses and had a continual stream of brilliant ideas for my case. They were upfront and honest about money, and worked as fast as they could to keep their bill within the confines of the budget I had. Doug and Dave did everything in their power to win my case and saved my children from a life of abuse and trauma. I will be forever grateful to them—they were worth every penny. They fought for a downtrodden, small-time, single mother with the aggressiveness and passion they would use to fight for a powerful, high-profile, wealthy client. I would return to them for any legal need, and I would refer anyone with an honest case to DDJP. Though I initially chose this legal team only for their fight, I now consider them my friends. Nobody fights that hard for you if they don’t care, and these attorneys truly care.

Brady Brammer and Spaulding Law put professionalism on a whole new level. The amount of care, effort, preparation, passion, and attention to detail Brady put into my case was astonishing. During a stressful time, Brady gave my family peace of mind knowing our case was being handled as well as possible, and he treated our case as if it was his personally. The way Brady conducts himself in a courtroom was incredible as well. His approach to presenting our case allowed him to display a level of trust and integrity that was impossible to deny. Being involved in litigation is never fun for anyone, but having Brady on our team helped give us serenity during this process. I will recommend Brady and Spaulding Law to anyone, no questions asked!

I paid just around $3000 in attorney fees for 2 months of representation with no court appearances or filings… just emails with OC and phone calls without even meeting Mr. Hoyer in person. He quickly referred me to his subordinate counsel for several weeks. I received such a large bill through two months, I made a change immediately and was so glad that I did. When I requested correspondence between him and opposing counsel to try to substantiate some of the cost, he would not forward that to me. You may want to make that inquiry if you ever decide that you want to retain him as I feel, this is highly irregular and far from transparent when you are paying for his services. Mr. Hoyers office said they would only send emails to my new attorney if he requests them but, would not send them to me. I asked on multiple occasions for a 10 minute appointment with Mr. Hoyer to place a name to a face and shake a hand after spending thousands of dollars the first few weeks and during the first month and was told he was ill or on vacation and just given the run around or in court. I also paid the $300 initial one hour consultation, which was by phone and not in person. I will tell you that my experience was a couple years ago in 2022 and I have utilized five attorneys for business and real estate transactions that were FANTASTIC. Mr Hoyer not only did not place his client as first priority, but overcharged and was an inefficient in utilizing an associate inexperienced attorney to assist and charged and charged. He was not transparent and would not share communications ie emails between he and opposing counsel when I need to address my situation… when I retained my next attorney, his open book policy was to CC all communications which I found refreshing and exceptionally transparent. Do you due diligence here…my experience was challenging, costly and a nightmare.

Please find someone Else to Represent you in your case as I believe you regret it like I did. Not only do I feel I was told everything I wanted to hear from them in order to get my money when I left a review a while ago and it was a bad review obviously and how I felt I was contacted and told that he was gonna take me to court and drain me in court fees if I didn’t change my review. If this is The kind of gloss firm you would want that literally says they’ll drain you of money if you don’t leave them a good review. Well go for it now that I’m back in the state I welcome going to court if need be for me, expressing my opinion and my reviews.

Brady Brammer is a lying POS that has no problem resorting to illegal means (Having private hearings without making an effort to notify the opposition) to win cases. I will be making a bar complaint as well!

I watched my friend get eaten alive by the opposing counsel. Lillian just sat there shuffling papers. No objections the whole time from her. Sloppy, unorganized. Unprepared to represent anyone. She also didn’t keep my friend informed of anything going on for weeks and days before the divorce hearing. I seriously question her competence.

Don't use her. She doesn't know what she is doing. Getting a bill from her is impossible. No accounting. Just tells you what you owe her, but you can't get a breakdown on what charges are for. PLUS, she is untrustworthy.

This firm is awful! I had an issue with the previous landlord where they were not communicating with me effectively. Which then caused me to be evicted, To make a long story short. I contacted this fern in hopes of getting everything resolved and spoke with Amanda, We eventually how to conversation a consultation, if you will, Which afterwards she dropped off the face of the planet and hasn't responded and basically ghosted me. Not effective communication just like my previous landlord that has landed me in the spot of trying to find an attorney. At the very least, Amanda And or the company need to reach out to their suppose it clientele, and let them know what the f Is going on. Negative 2 stars.

After scheduling what I thought was a paid consultation that should have lasted 1 hour, I learned I was unknowingly scheduled into a 15 minute free consultation. Heather rushed through the consultation continually reminding me she was losing money every minute we spoke. Completely unprofessional, zero compassion, zero fighting skills & capability. If you need a bulldog of an attorney who is willing to fight for you, this attorney is not it. I had $23,000 I was prepared to give her just to start my case. Her loss.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.

Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.

A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.

Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
