I used Roberta‘s services years ago for a family matter and the issue was resolved very successfully. When you hire Roberta, she’s your friend for life. Recently, I had to reach out to her for referrals and she was very accommodating to my needs. She referred me to two attorneys who are helping me with my problems. Roberta, is conscientious, goal oriented and gets the task done. Thank you so much.

Called to get some help & immediately felt like I was being treated poorly! No professionalism whatsoever! The lady who I had spoken with had no empathy & I didn’t even get a full two sentences out before feeling stupid! Once I stated that I didn’t like how she was talking to me she changed her whole demeanor! I’m dealing with a lot already & asking for answers & help but to have someone not sincerely wanting to isn’t where I want to spend my hard earned money! Please take this review into consideration for your own or your loved ones sake!

Attorney Carla Romero Senh’s proficiency in handling a family member’s immigration case was exceptional! As a sponsor for my cousin’s Application for Adjustment of Status to Permanent Resident, I was amazed that her practice endorses and maintains client confidentiality and privacy with the use of a secured site to submit documents for a case and her relentless determination to accurately complete and submit the application package on time. I truly understand and admire the amount of hard work she took to provide an excellent service. I highly recommend Attorney Carla Romero Senh’ services.

I am very glad that Robin was my attorney. She is very well qualified (Stanford!) and did a great job for me. She is reasonable and tries to get matters resolved, but if the other side is unreasonable she is tough. She knows her stuff and the judges obviously respect her. My divorce was difficult and she made it go smoothly and my outcome was very good. Highly recommend her!

I recently hired Robin Towse for my divorce. Everything is now finalized but no thanks to Ms. Towse. I feel that all she did was file a few papers and all of the leg work was done by me. I even had to talk to my husband's lawyer on my own because Ms. Towse took at least a week to respond to my emails or phone calls.

Robin was my attorney for my very difficult divorce. It was a complicated divorce with custody issues and money issues. Robin was very good with both. Unlike most attorneys she is very good with numbers. She is very experienced and knows what to look for. She was so helpful and I was very happy with settlement.

Totally disappointed that they took all of my personal details, rushed me while on the phone, and gave me this excuse that doesn’t make any sense. It’s unrealistic to do an intake if you claim to have too many clients. Why waste anyone’s time. It’s better to really provide a reason as to why you aren’t able to help. I wasn’t sure if I would do business with them, since they request $1,000 up front and they don’t help to access records by subpoena or any private investigation that may be needed. If you talk to them, I would recommend getting your questions answered first, prior to giving them all of your personal details. I totally wasted my time.

Oliver is along time contact but not a close friend. Initially, we contacted him for 'estate' advise. His help was excellent. He answers the occasional question w/o sending a bill! He's personable, understanding, patient, kind, honest and very smart... Don't know what else to add! His honesty would not allow him to mislead!! skc, Realtor

Here's the story of why I keep learning English. I went to the USA 31 years ago and was in Clayton, California. I stayed with a judge & lawyer's family for 28 days, and I was warmly treated. Those happy memories inspired me to study hard and work hard. I wanted to have a better life on my own. Now I'm an art teacher, teaching bilingually in a junior high school in Taiwan. I wish I could say thank you again to the host family, Mom & Dad, the most generous, kind people I've ever met. I am learning English at Rachel's English Academy and from some great American teachers, like Vanessa, Lisa, Jackie, Wes on YouTube, etc.

This woman is a rude and vile person. She was once a substitute attorney for parents at one point in time a few years ago, now takes part in the cruel and inhumane cash for kids corruption scheme of family court, under the guise of court appointed representative of the children and their best interests. I am apart of a parental advocacy group that educates the community (almost daily), on the horrors of the despicable acts that transpire at the walnut creek courthouse. Yesterday I was sitting under a tree at the courthouse minding my own business and taking a break. She sees me on a regular basis. But yesterday when she was exiting the building she made a beeline for me she immediately started an interrogation, and verbal assault upon me, Unintaginized, which startled me and shook me, a tirade of insults she spewed forth at me. She appeared to be under the influence of maybe multiple substances. And her words were hurried and sometimes slurred. Her attack was over quickly, and she bolted towards her car immediately after leaving me stunned. All the while a man had been standing in very close proximity to myself and was getting ready to enter his vehicle and leave he stood there baffled and staring at the event unfolding before him. When she left she was driving erratically through the parking lot. The Man Who consoled me because he couldn't believe what he had just witnessed. He was very upset that this person who is supposedly a professional would do this to someone. I have now filed a police report, and if she harasses me again I will be refiling a restraining order.

Jill is a terrible commissioner she runs her courtroom, unfairly . Shes biased and allows people to lie under oath and won’t even look at evidence to prove that they are lying, very unfair. if you have the option please object to her hearing your case and get in front of a real judge.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
