If you have no knowledge of the law Michael will swiftly lead you to a Final Order. He doesn't try to leap mountians but he does ask your opinion and gets your full approval before he will speak on your behalf. He doesn't like to play around with what ifs in the slightest and knows what he and you can and cannot control in both the eyes of the court and reality. In my years involved with these courts I have seen him as the go getter, as well as compasionate for the broken. He is both ruthless when necessary and patient with regard to the hurry up and wait game. He is well versed in family law and would be my choice in an attorney. Just keep him in the room long enough to relay the entire list of relivent facts before going to court.

Sydney was the backbone I needed when I was going through my very contentious, low priority divorce. Sydney always was available and was so helpful while I went through this process. Her office was friendly and helpful. She helped me navigate a very unpleasant situation and I would recommend her to other persons going through divorces... especially those involving domestic issues and children.

Mrs. Tucker was the judge on last settlement of my divorce case ( 2017-2018). Actual divorce was on 2009 & in 2017 & 2018 financial part which did not finalized by my ex husband was settled on my ex husband favor. Mrs. tucker did not let me to say a word as I open ( with permission in sign language) my moth she hold her hand as sign of stop on my face! And she said stop! She treated me as I am not a human as I do not have any right as I am different than her. It could not have been more humiliating as it was! The results was under her supervision my divorce degrees of 2009 which was signed and finalized by previous judge was revised to favor of my ex husband! A man who physically, verbally, mentally & emotionally abused me & our two children for 40 years! As mrs Tucker glanced at me at first she took in on no benefit of the doubt that I am guilty and no human! It is so unfortunate that our life of living in this world should be judged but a educated judge like this! This is almost 5 years pasted! I haven’t forgotten . My heart still hurts! I am writing this so people read about it ! I believe in God I am sure he will take care of justice!

When I hired David Haynes (extremely low in cost) on a Class C misdemeanor charge. David Haynes told me to plead no contest; (which I thought was the same as pleading guilty) and I knew I had a recorded conversation of the man that filed the false charges; of said man saying "I broke my window; you saw me do it; but your the one going to jail for it, I love it". So, I refused to plead no contest. When I didn't plead no contest and I said "not guilty"; I was immediately arrested; finger printed; and Haynes came to get me in the back room for me to go to my other case that Haynes wasn't involved in. A bad apple; told me to hire Doug Mulder; to appeal and enter the solid evidence of the con artist saying "I broke my window; you saw me do it; but you are the one going to jail for it; I love it". I paid Doug Mulder (high profile criminal defence attorney) $5,000 and gave him the "recording that proved my innocence". Doug Mulder and John Nation Attorney claimed that the appeal was filed in the wrong county; and yet there was a trial in the right county; and Mulder and Nation didn't enter the only evidence needed to prove my innocence. I went to jail for 10 days. I now have a record; whereas if I had done what DAvid Haynes said to do; plead no contest and hope that someone actually signs what DAvid Haynes said I would get "three months deferred ajudification; that would have been a far better outcome for me. In closing; I would tell anyone to hire David Haynes; make sure before you plead no contest that the States offer is in writing; and don't ever think that a more expensive attorney is going to be a better attorney. The only negative that I experienced with Haynes; is that 4 times I told him that I'm not taking a plea; I want to go to trial because there's a bigger picture; Haynes just wouldn't say " okay trial it is; and that will cost me more". All people should be highly skeptical of people of Power. Trust no one is a good motto. The world if filled with trickery. I will never know if I would have actually gotten Deferred Ajudification or Not. But; I still question this: that when I plead "not guilty"; and I didn't sign to a plea agreement; then; "why was I immediately arrested and finger printed"?

He let me ask many questions and showed great concern with all my expectations. He is top notch. He did exactly what he said he'd do, when he said he'd do it, and I couldn't be happier with his counsel.

Stay far away from this attorney unless you like being lied to and put on the back burner. Your case is not important to this man. He is impossible to communicate with because he will not respond until the day before your court date. He refused to invest any time into getting to know the details of my case. He has not provided me with the court documents I have requested time and time again. Now that I have asked for my money back He has completely disappeared and lost all contact. Not that he was really communicating anyway. I say this on the behalf of my court case and a couple others who used him. So it's not just me he ripped off, I know this for a fact. Sadly to say he stole my money and alot more from the people I have talked to. He needs to be removed with his license stripped away so he can't take advantage of another person at the most vulnerable times in their life.

Absolute worst lawyer ever! Doesn't explain the steps of your case. Is very hard to communicate with since he barely responds to emails/phone calls. For my case he put my business appraiser two weeks after due date on docket. Lost my witness, $5000 dollars for appraisal, and around $100,000 business value since the judge didn't allow the testimony or appraisal paperwork. Since my husband didn't provide most of the needed paperwork after the discovery phase, we had two 'motion to compel' hearings. Twice Eric did NOT ask for the missing documents at all, even though he recommended these hearings. Again, another waste of time and money. For the final court hearing he was absolutely not prepared and did a horrible job presenting my case. Since the divorce outcome was so bad, he recommended that I'd appeal the judge's decision. Really? You mess it up and blame the judge? I would never, ever recommend him. One would think that $450/hour would bring some knowledge and expertise. Alas!

Overall Dana accomplished the goals I set with her when I hired her. As a lawyer, Dana has proven to me that her 20 plus years of experience in divorce law was the main reason I won in my divorce case. In court during the hearing and eventually the trial Dana prepped me ahead of time and performed very well and resolved the divorce in my favor. The only thing to note is in order to have consistent communication outside of the courtroom, I needed to take the initiative to contact her either by phone, email or meeting in person. The only advice I would give to others is to provide Dana with any and all documents related to the divorce case, so resolving the divorce after the divorce is decreed can go more smoothly.

This attorney has no business doing some of the sensitive work he’s doing. In court when addressed by the other side in an aggressive untruthful way, I looked to my attorney to do what he’s there to do, and he was literally twiddling his thumbs looking at the ground while rocking back and forth. He’s been nothing but completely disrespectful and out of line with my family members, and he absolutely has don’t nothing to help me. He never returns calls, or has any contact.

Mr. Hultkrantz was assigned to my case as my court-appointed attorney for a misdemeanor charge out of Collin County. He hasn't returned a single phone call I've made to him since assigned (March 2016). The first time I spoke with him was at my first court date, where I was finally able to discuss my concerns over my DL being suspended. He told me I didn't need to worry about this unless I received notice from the state stating my DL was being suspended. A few days later, I received that letter, and I began calling him with urgent messages left as I am the only person in my home with a car and DL. I just wanted advice on how to obtain an ODL, so that I could get to work & basically legally make weekly trips to grocery store, doctor's appointments, etc. He never called me back. I had about 3 business days' notice to figure out getting ODL, to include $, court docs filed, & documentation requested by DPS/Collin County Courts. I had to miss work to do this. At first court date, he told me what the DA was offering & said he wanted to view the video of my arrest. Next court date was almost 2 months later, & he said he wasn't able to view video despite trying to do so on 2 different computers. Immediately, he began to re-discuss the DA's offer. I told him I wouldn't agree to any DA offer until we could view video. I told him I wanted to come view at his office & he reset court for a short interval so that we could do this. He said he would call me that next week to schedule. Two weeks went by, and I didn't hear from him. I began texting him around that time, thinking maybe he forgot. Despite my requests to have a meeting with him to see video & present medical records for 3 weeks, I still haven't been told when we could set this up. Court is in less than week.

Bob, like many lawyers, is probably just too busy to keep a client such as myself satisfied. I understand people make mistakes; however, Bob actually acquired a list from me. Missed my ALR hearing (license got suspended), missed an appointment I had setup the day prior to go over my evidence, told me he hadn't even looked at/received my evidence until over 6 months after I had been arrested (felt like he looked at it the night prior to a court date), never fulfilled a single request I had unless it involved paying him or showing up to court, and he was very elusive to me. I'd hate to give him a bad review but hopefully he reads this and fixes himself. Needs to be more concerned with the client's case and provide some kind of comfort in the process.

Be careful and keep close tabs on the work Mr. Nygaard does in regards to your case. He would send bills without any information of what work was perforned. He did not do ONE thing that he said he would. When in court he NEVER made any objections-not ONE. Very frustrating and expensive to say the leadt. I would have saved much money and aggravation by not even hiring him. He would have an elaborate story and strategy of what he would do in court and then fold when the time came. On two occasions he was caught backtracking on what he said and the reason I know is because the conversation was recorded. At any rate just please be careful and do not make the same mistake that I made. thank you.

I hired the attorney Sarah duff to represent my siblings and I with our fathers estate after passing. Sarah sold our 430k house to our stepmother for 9000$ after telling me nit to press charges on that stepmother after she assaulted me in the very house. The courts ordered 40k in stocks also be given to us which were transferred to Sarah and never transferred on to us. She accepted the 9000 for the house by signing her name in our place in a deal she wrote up that we never saw but explicitly told her we would never accept when it was brought up. My brother was a minor and our living paren was his legal representative but Sarah also made all decisions without consulting them. Their entire firm won't return phone calls or emails. It took over a year for us to get an invoice even though we asked her week after week for one. Terrible firm, terrible lawyer, terrible partners cause they still haven't reached out even after all the public reviews I've left. She destroyed my family and used the law to do it and nobody in the firm has done anything to reach out including Sarah. If a 0 star review was possible if post it.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
