Breakout Capital hired Doug in May 2017 after he served as external counsel helping the company secure its first credit facility. Since that time, Doug has negotiated an extension of that facility plus two additional credit facilities, led the diligence and negotiations on prospective M&A transactions, and served as a key member of the executive team, where his duties extend well beyond just legal. In addition to being extremely thoughtful, diligent and hard working (consistently one of the last to leave the office), Doug is very pragmatic and able to isolate the key issues that are worth pursuing. He is also very adept at juggling multiple tasks simultaneously such that nothing falls through the cracks. One of the most admirable qualities about Doug is that he is very fair and even-handed. Simply put, Doug is one of the top attorney's I have ever worked with. We initially hired Doug's firm to provide counsel and draft the documents on our first financing. Doug took the time to understand our business model so he could better communicate how certain clauses in the financing structure could positively/negatively impact our business. Phil and our family share the same last name, but we are not actually related. Phil has been our family attorney for over a decade now. We trust him and his legal advice indubitably. He has been our counsel through numerous commercial and real estate transactions. He consistently keeps us abreast of changing situations during the deals and always includes/explains to us, as the client, for all decision making. He is always available via email and telephone, most times with 1-day or less response time.
His advice errs on the side of cautious and protective of our interests, which is exactly what you want from an attorney. His entire team at his firm is knowledgeable and equally trustworthy.
Bonus, is that he can understand quite a bit of the Korean language verbally, and can even speak it a little. However his English is perfect and written communications are always clear and concise.

My sister and I have had a series of bad experiences with attorneys, with one notable exception: Calvin H. Cobb, III, who is my hero. My problem involved questions I had about my brother's handling of my mother's affairs-most notably his borrowing money on a line of credit he placed on her house I was to inherit. I engaged a reputable attorney but was unhappy with the outcome. She paid no attention to me, was dismissive of my concerns and after spending my retainer money filed a paper that did me no good. She then withdrew as my counsel. I heard good reports of Mr. Cobb so I called him. I had a very different experience. Mr. Cobb listened to me carefully explained to me my brother's point of view and where my grievances may be misplaced, directed me away from the points that were weak and focused my attention on the one legal theory that would allow me to solve my problem. We were able to efficiently convince the Court that my claim was valid and obtained a judgment requiring my brohter to pay off the line of credit. I was delighted both with the outcome and with the manner in which it was achieved. I hope I never need an attorney, but Mr. Cobb gets five stars in my book. I would not hesitate to give him the highest possible recommendation.
