This firm and its lawyers do not care for their clients at all. They take months to reply to emails. They constantly give unacceptable excuses (fracture, holidaying with grandchildren, sick, computer broke down, assistant is away, the list goes on). The management are equally uninterested. They have still not closed a rather straightforward matter of mine and it’s been nearly 5 years with no end in sight. Save yourself some trouble and go to some other firm.

Robert is and is not a lawer. Robert IS a lawyer in the sense that he knows his technical stuff. Robert IS NOT a lawyer in the sense that he does not have a money gouging attitude that one sees in some lawyers. Robert remains focused enough to speak and advise where he needs to in a constructive manner and he will tell the 2 spouses to work things out by and for themselves [ due to subject matter involving personal preferences ]. Robert took a personal interest in both of us, at the same time did not abandon his professional conduct. I recommend Robert Menache highly to those that need a lawyer to deal w/ legal issues and repeat that Robert IS NOT A LAWEYER in capricious nor financially gouging conduct and mannerisms.

She is friendly, wonderful, and a delight. Her down sides is that she doesn't keep you up to date with what is going on and than briefly tells you but not quite in detail. She knows her laws but me not knowing brings more stress. Other than that, i would go to her again in the future if needed.

Charged $5,000 after 2, 30-minute meetings. Recommended I create a trust to resolve the issue that I wanted to protect my assets. Once I learned more about the topic I came to Matt for, I realized too late that he upsold me on something I didn’t need and that didn’t resolve my concerns but is the only thing his firm specializes in.

Nancy has represented my partner and I for many years and has lended her wisdom and practical know how in all matters pertaining to our real estate investment and landlord/tenant and business issues. In contrast to many lawyers, her advice is cost-effective as well as legally effective which is the perfect answer for a small business like ours. You will be in good hands with Nancy and I could not recommend her more highly.

I had the misfortune of contcting Nancy to set up a living trus and will. She gave me a form to complete, went through it with me and said that would be $300.00 and if I wanted her to set up m;y paperwork it would cost $1200.00. All in all I spent 15 minutes filling out the form she spent 10 minutes with me and I spent another 5 miutes paying the $300.00 fee. I never went back .

This attorney brags about potential results and his Rolodex, but I found him to be unresponsive, unreliable, and not capable of delivering the results he promised. Maybe he cared more in the old days, but he acts untouchable now like his clients are lucky to have his attention when they can get it.

I read a negative review of this attorney and didn't believe it-but as I was a client, I paid dearly. Mosher seemed to do a lot of work but mostly on her behalf, not mine.. Most of my contact was with her paralegal and a lot of the documentation was not of good quality. I paid a lot in fees, but the attorney showed little interest in my case. And then filed for her fees, and subbed out, leaving me without an attorney.

Mia turfed the entire case to junior counsel and everything was a rush job to me because she was not resp to opposing counsel or the court timely. She also chArged me for these things caused by her disorganization and in effectiveness She also went back and charged me for the initial consult. Her early counsel on timelines and outcomes were disparate from reality. We never spoke verbally again after the initial consult. It's a mill that she's running and you are just a number with a checkbook.

We retained Britten Kekaimalie Bailey Westsmith to handle Trademark and Copyright work for our company. Despite paying thousands of dollars, she neither completed the work correctly nor finished it. We experienced poor communication, lack of attention to detail, and misunderstandings throughout the process. She has missed multiple meetings she scheduled to complete the work and has now stopped responding entirely. Despite being paid in full, she has delivered nothing correctly. As you know, timing and attention to detail are crucial for Trademarks and Copyrights, and her incompetence has left us in a difficult situation. Following her guidance, we underwent an entire brand change, costing us thousands, only to discover she never finished the work and what little she did was incorrect. She has left the case, blocked all communications and took our money.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
