Believe all the negative reviews here because the positive reviews are highly suspect. I used Terry for a legal matter and would not recommend him. I never had the urge to write a review on Yelp, but here I am and out of all the business establishments to write one about, it was a law firm and not a restaurant. My main issue I had was that Terry was very rude to me! He was rude to the person who was paying him. That alone should tell you everything. He secretly judges you. I honestly feel as if I was paying someone while they were not caring about my situation. Terry is one of the most u professional attorneys I have ever met. The fact that his wife lives on this page to cover up his actions is appalling. It's about time you stop enabling him! Please do your self a favor and find another capable attorney from a more reputable law firm. Some of the issues I had with Terry included him being abusive to me and yelling at me and cutting me off while talking. He also made me do my own legal work because he was so lazy. I had such an unpleasant experience with him. He mentally scarred me! He also was very unprepared. It's as if he never been to law school. He didn't know certain legal procedures to the point where I now have to hire another attorney. A more capable attorney to fix his mess. At least I am now treated with respect for my legal matter and he is handling it more professionally. Unlike Terry. I could go on but please save yourself and use another law firm. These reviews cannot be for the same person. A small law firm has reviews akin to a popular restaurant. Who are these people?! Terry also seems to have issues with billing. Especially from what I have read. It seems they do this often. I was also defrauded by this practice. Apparently he was also reported to the Bar. I suspect that this is normal business for this law firm. So if you use this firm, check your Billings or else they will just over-bill you for work never done. Please stay away! You are welcome.

Used Mayo & Mayo for a legal matter. I selected them based on their Yelp rating and that they were close to my office. I would not recommend this law firm based on my interaction with both individuals. I felt that the quality of service could have been better. Also I do agree that Terry can be bit rude to his clients. I felt I got similar treatment. I also did not like how I was quoted one fee and then asked for additional funds with no hourly breakdown. Overall I would say to use another law firm. I didn’t have much time to pick so I choose poorly. Don’t make my mistake. To the owner, please provide better service and treat your clients with respect.

Greg Maple is incredibly rude and his main concern is with overcharging your account for frivolous reasons. I do not recommend that anyone hire him or his firm.

In his defense I suppose I should say that Gary does not claim to be up to date on the laws of California, in fact he readily admits that he is not the man to ask if you are seeking to arrive at a settlement based on accepted standards in our state. Gary might be more successful if he would listen before starting tell you his vision of what your post marital landscape will look like. In my case, at our first meeting, before getting to know the reality of our financial situation, he asked my soon-to-be-ex if she would rather "rent or own" a place to live in Mill Valley. Mind you, she had brought no assets to our relatively short-lived marriage but now was focused on the expectation that a divorce would make her a homeowner in one of the priciest communities in the United States. After asking how much she would need to live in the utopia he proposed, Friedman ran a tortured series of ever-more impossible calculations trying to make our incomes add up to the lofty figure that the vision would cost. After the mediation crashed and burned and my once-wife threatened to throw herself off the Golden Gate bridge, she sought out the most aggressive and dishonorable lawyer she could find still hoping to make the vision Gary Friedman planted in her a head a reality. When all the ensuing expense, bitterness and vitriol played itself out, our mundane financial reality guided the terms of the final settlement. If mediation is meant to provide an amicable and fiscally responsible alternative to litigation, Gary Friedman's reckless and irresponsible approach makes a peaceful outcome nearly impossible. In my case turned out to be a counterproductive nightmare.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.

    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.

Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.

Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
