You'll like Kip. He's a very effective lawyer -- knowledgable, friendly, and down-to-earth. He's a genuine up-and-comer that's been missing from the law scene in past years. Use his services while his fees are still reasonable -- you may be paying big bucks for this guy in the future. The best thing about Kip is that he makes the law friendly. It was something that I never experienced with other lawyers. A true, professional lawyer knows the law but can still be an everyday human being -- that's Kip. Some newer lawyers are without a vestige of humanity, trying to prove to clients that they are top-performers at the law by belittling clients with over-the-top legal terms and a laundry list of past wins and accomplishments. I could care less about a lawyer's wins -- just give me simple legal advice and options that I can act upon for my business, plain and simple. Kip embodies what a lawyer of the younger generation should be. For one, you would never guess this man is a lawyer outside of the office. That speaks wonders. Too many new lawyers appear to be irreversibly transformed by law school -- what was left of their humanity is merely a husk and their soul is now a gladiator in a legal arena. They care less of humanity and how the law applies to society and are more interested in becoming partner of a big firm. Kip is different. He approaches legal situations in a very calm manner. He listens first. When he talks, it is not legal-speak; rather, sound legal advice. Easy to digest legal advice. It's exactly what's needed in a lawyer (and pardon the medical analogy) -- a humble, sociable legal practitioner with a wonderful bedside manner. Granted, he is not the cheapest lawyer out there, but he is also not the most expensive. You might look elsewhere for general business needs and come to Kip when you need a surgical problem solver to deal with your legal issues. Frankly, I'd go to Kip for everything if the budget allowed for it. Fortunately, he is more than willing to field a question or two and is very blunt about whether his services merit the situation. If there is any lawyer out there that might reach the top in his career, it's Kip. I would strongly urge anyone seeking legal advice in his field of practice to give him a call. You will not be disappointed.

John Kantke is kind, intelligent, thorough, ethical, and an excellent attorney. He worked with my husband and me while we dithered a bit over our estate planning. He was very patient, never got irritated with our changes of mind, and took pains to find just the right estate plan to meet all our specific needs. His fees are very reasonable. His office is welcoming and easy to find and to park. I feel very happy that we will have John to help us with our estate planning needs going forward.

Unfortunately l I was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident a few years ago. Being my first accident I was very naive to the whole process. I truly believed it would be very easy to get things resolved and settled. I was injured in the accident and after a few questionable occurrences with another law firm I was referred to Ali Sieben through a friend of mine. The experience was like night and day. I know that may sound weird but I am being honest. Being in an accident and claiming injury, there are so many steps involved and it truly can be a frustrating process. Your life and wellbeing can be changed and I believe the proper representation can make all the difference. From the first contact I had with Ali and her team it was nothing but professional. Attorneys / lawyers deal with many clients, probably multiple in the same time frame they may be dealing with you. I always felt Ali and her team had my best interest at heart with every decision that was made. Actually, Ali always kept me informed before any decisions. Ali was always prompt, on time with any communication be it email, phone, or postal mail. Ali kept me informed and in the loop about dates, times, potential outlook. She also answered every question I had be it big, small, complicated, or what may seem silly. She set the expectations from our initial contact and continued through case settlement. The best way to sum up my experience with Ali would be the fact that she made me feel like my case was her only case. Ali is Very genuine, honest, and empathetic.

He represented me in a very comple commercial matter that involved numerous depositions and substantial motion practice. He was always prepared and had a great rapport with the judge. Very laid back and easy going but aggressive in court and in dealing with opposing counsel. If you want a great lawyer that doesn't have the big firm mentality and charge the big firm fees, I highly recommend him.

Gary was unique. I was able to gather records and do mailings that kept my costs down. He kept me insured and getting 3rd party paychecks throughout my ordeal. His referrals were stellar. I would not recommend him to everyone I know, but that says more about potential clients than about Gary. He sees the big picture. His written skills are superb. He happened to have the experience dealing with my adversary necessary to prevail…..and we did on all issues.

I've hired Greg over the course of nearly two decades for a variety of business and personal matters - and we have prevailed in every situation so far. Time and time again, Greg accurately assesses the complexity of a scenario, asks the right questions and moves quickly to a course of action. I appreciate that on our cases he has taken a creative, risk-based view of the potential financial impact from my perspective and has presented well-packaged, easily understood options from which to choose. I have recommended Greg many times for both personal and professional matters and will continue to do so.

Ms. Westby is a great attorney with a good heart. She is diligent, details oriented and pragmatic. I appreciate the high quality work she provided on my case. Jenna works efficiently to keep the costs low for her clients. She is responsive and explains issues and expectations well. This helps lowering the anxiety of her clients. My ex is an attorney represented by an expensive/experienced attorney. They filed a physical custody related motion against me. If they could win, it would have damaging to my children. When I hired Jenna, I had no hope of winning against two experienced attorneys. Jenna was able to turn things around in my favor and win the case for me. She is wonderful.

I hired Lymari Santana to get me through a less then amicable divorce with young children. She's helped me see the matter-of-fact in my situation which helps ground me in my process. Divorce with young kids is not easy for anyone involved especially my children. She looks out for their best interests no matter what the emotion might be at the moment. She has had the backbone when I don't/ didn't and she's one of the most professional lawyers I have had the pleasure to meet. Lymari is confident, focused and well organized. Her focus is doing the right thing and it shows through her hard work and when you're dealing with a lawyer it is not always so common. I would highly recommend her to anyone going through divorce with child custody issues. Through her experience in family law Lymari has the tools needed to be your voice of reason, support and sanity in a very chaotic time.

Karen was an excellent divorce attorney, and provided great guidance and support throughout the process. This divorce case was extremely long and drawn out, and required a lot of patience on her part as far as dealing with the opposition. My case required an abundance of paperwork, numerous orders and I continued to require her services for several years, dealing with contempt orders, child and medical support obligations, affidavits, and required court appearances. She was very thorough with my case, and always went through every possible scenario with me so that I understood exactly what was happening. I would very strongly recommend Karen Ives; I had a very positive experiece and valued her organization, diligence and attention to detail. I also appreciated her thoughtfulness, kind words and understanding nature. She was very helpful and I continue to use her services to this day.

I am on my sixth attorney in a Tila rescission case that went all the way to the Supreme Court ,and back to the lower court. Luann Petricka agreed to take my case the rest of the way, given my previous counsel had a scheduling conflict.. She work her tail off reviving our position, kept me informed, and was blatantly honest with me ,even when I could not understand the complexities of the case. She worked day and night for my interests, and I believe she would be a great attorney for anyone, anytime!. My case has not been decided, but based on the hard work she has dedicated, I am confident that she has done everything a client can ask. As I said, I have been to the Supreme Court of the United States, and I have seen my share of ineffective counsel. This why I am endorsing Luann Petricka as an outstanding attorney.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
