Contacted Gregory only to retain him the same day! Very informative and really knows what he is doing. Looked out for my best interests throughout the entire process. Easy to work with, only had to meet a couple times and everything went flawlessly. Could not be happier!

Jessica has been an amazing attorney, I have no issues with getting ahold of her like I did the last attorney, since she has taken over my case she has been nothing but amazing and is sure to always set a meeting to go over things before you actually go to court. I will have to admit she is definitely an attorney I'd recommend people to hire.

Impossible to get Jessica to call me back. I had an emergency with my ex holding the children from me and even left the office a message saying just that for Jessica and never received a response on how to handle the situation. She did absolutely nothing for me in court and on top of that was even late to my court date. She came unprepared and just works for the money. Your life dont matter to her.

I was referred to Ms. Richileau by another attorney in Monroe. She provided me with great representation on my divorce case. She is well versed in the law and was aggressive throughout the case. I recommend her to anyone going through a messy divorce.

Terri did not prep clients prior to court with what would be best in their case, the exact opposite by telling u what she would do for the other client. You hire a laywer for their expertise to guide you...this will not happen in this office. Terri’s office did not draw up documents for case rather let the other parties lawyer do and never reviewed - when something huge was missed blamed it on me as the client for not reviewing document and catching the problem....this is what you are paying for as a client!! Forgets about your case and situation. Not competent in giving the best situational results in divorce case or advising Terri does not make herself avail for calls or emails rather goes thru office staff yet charges you lawyer fees. If u think u will talk to her personally during your case it won’t happen but will 10 mins before court I hired her originally bc I heard she was one of Monroe’s best .... that must have been in her early yrs of her profession but diffidently not now! Younger secretary in the office is very rude and unprofessional!

I contacted Terri after three separate people recommended her after I made the decision to divorce. Divorce is obviously never easy or something anyone wants to go through but Terri removed a lot of the stress of this situation. She is confident which in turn raised my confidence level. Just because someone is an attorney doesn’t mean they know everything about the law. Well, Terri I believe does know every single thing, especially in my case involving government pensions, TSP’s, military disability, etc. Over the long run, Terri and her team saved me so much money that I was initially expecting to pay due to my lack of knowledge about law. I am much happier after my divorce and so very glad that Terri was on my side. I don’t want to imagine her being against me. Thank you for everything!!!

I would not recommend Rebecca Hicks. I found her to be very incompetent as an attorney. Her fees were quite unreasonable. The end result in my divorce was awful and Rebecca's legal guidance was poor at best. I would strongly suggest seeking another attorney if you are going through a divorce. Thank you.

Do not hire this attorney. I made the terrible mistake of employing her and lost everything in my divorce. She's easily intimidated by other lawyers and saves her aggression for you to cover up what she clearly doesn't know. You've been warned.

He has little motivation for life it seems. He doesn't care to even show up to court on time, let alone presentable. His clothing is inappropriate. His attitude is disgusting. And he undoubtedly should not be practicing. Hes damaged lives and is eating boxes of twinkies not giving one care. He doesn't even deserve 1 star.

Mr. Smith seems to have some knowledge of the law but doesn't have much motivation to use it. It takes a bit of, "prodding," to get him to file motions, do any research, ask relevant questions during hearings, etc. After you can get him motivated and interested, he may be of some help to you and your case. Unfortunately, though, sometimes it seems like his mind is made up, whether or not you, his client, is already guilty of the crime. As reviewer Corey says, he does appear to be working with the courts or seems not to want to question steps that the prosecution may be taking towards prosecution of his client. Ultimately, I would recommend trying to find other counsel, if possible. Mr. Smith is usually appointed by the courts as free counsel to defendants that they wish to be poorly represented. It appears that courts that are involved with repeat offenders usually assign him to represent the offender. Another piece of information, that I would like to add, is that Mr. Smith appears to be autistic. He is very awkward in social situations and hesitant to respond to you when speaking with him, such as when discussing your case. He avoids eye contact and has abnormal facial expressions when speaking. If you can get him to relax or once you build up a rapport, he is usually a bit more easy to talk with. I kept him as counsel because I did not have sufficient funds to be able to hire a different attorney. I was hoping that maybe he would be like the character, Shaun Murphy from the television series, The Good Doctor, and have a miracle plan of action. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.

If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
