I was under the impression that Mr Eisenmann was going to help me or at least respond to my emails after paying for a consultation with him. It has been over a month since I heard from him. In fact the last correspondence we had was him apologizing, saying he had a unexpectedly busy week and promising to get back in touch with me Monday morning. I understand things happen but it's not hard to respond to an email (a simple "I'm not interested in taking the case" would've been fine) or even have an assistant say something.

I spoke with Attorney Blume about representing me and my husband in a property tax appeal. She did not appear fully knowledgeable, but I thought I could work with her. Attorney Blume sent an engagement letter for me and my husband to sign. It contained an hourly fee that was above what I was quoted on the phone. It also contained numerous other fees. At the end of the engagement letter, Atty Blume said to contact her to ask any questions. I sent and email with questions about all the other fees and when they would be applied. Without elaboration, Ms. Blume responded by stating she would not take my case since I appeared "uncomfortable" with the fee agreement. No questions were answered. This was very unprofessional. I am very happy I did not sign that fee agreement. Since she would not answers questions about the complicated fee agreement, I seriously doubt she would provide effective representation.

My experience with the Adelman law fire was a disaster. Dan the lawyer I haired to handle all my post divorce issues was never available to discuss my case. It was done through a series of emails. The only time i was able to see Dan was 20 minutes prior to going into court. This was the extent of reviewing my issues. I was quoted a fixed fee to handle all maters but was forced to give additional monies to Dan throughout the process in order for him to proceed. He is never prepared He never returns phone calls He never filed any of the motions I prepared for him to file He never reviews you case prior to court date He is rude and always asking for more money. Please do your homework before hiring Dan Adelman. Read other site reviews of him and his poor work ethics

JEAN WELTY DOES NOTHING. IF YOU ARE STRONG MAN - WATCH OUT. I HIRED JEAN WELTY FOR A DIVORCE AFTER A REFERRAL FROM ANOTHER LAWYER. HORRIBLE DECISION. NO RESPONSE, NO PROACTION, NO CONSULTS, NO TIME, NO RETURN CALLS - SHE COST ME A LOT OF MONEY AND NOW I AM SUING HER. SHE REFERED TO DIVORCE AS A SPORTING EVENT IN OUR INITIAL CONSULTATION. SHE FAILED TO RESPOND FOR TWO WEEKS AFTER MY THEN-WIFE TOLD ME HER THERAPIST FELT SHE WAS HAVING A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. MY THEN-WIFE LATER WAS CODED IN THE HOSPITAL IN FULL VIEW OF MY KIDS AGES 4 AND 14. MY KIDS SUFFERED HORRIBLY. I HAVE A LONG LIST OF DOCUMENTED EVENTS THAT SUPPORT THE FACTS THAT WELTY DID NOTHING FOR ME IN MY DIVORCE EXCEPT TAKE MY MONEY. YOU WILL MAKE A HUGE MISTAKE IF YOU ENGAGE THIS ATTORNEY. MY ADVICE: STAY OUT OF COURT AND SETTLE YOUR MARITAL ISSUES THROUGH COLLABORATION OR MEDIATION.

I felt that his words and behavior were that of a person not above board. It was as if he'd say one thing and do another. In asking a general question ,every one of his responses gave me the impression that this so--called lawyer has no scruples . Upon trying to research his background via the internet it was very very difficult to obtain any real information . For me there is something very suspicious about this attorney.

Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.

  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
