Stacy is the best attorney anyone could ask for!! She is dedicated to getting the best result possible for every client as if she was fighting her own case. She truly wants the best for her clients and doesn’t give up until she gets just that. If it wasn’t for Stacy and her hard work and determination I would be sitting in a very different place today and for that I owe her far more than what she charged for her services. I highly recommend her to anyone that has legal issues, big or small. Unlike many other attorneys that will just take your money and settle for whatever the DA recommends, Stacy will fight for you and your freedom! Thank you Stacy, you are the best!!

I cannot say enough good things about Jared Craig. But I will try: He helped me preserve my remaining sanity for my children in what was an awful domestic situation. As my seemingly straightforward case for divorce was sidetracked by several minor criminal issues, Jared never missed a beat. Not only did he help me remain calm as we proved my civil assertions, Jared and Abigail also worked very closely with me to debunk the false criminal assertions. These are commonly seen but were not anything that I was used to at all. Along the way, Jared actually dismantled the defense team. I mean that LITERALLY. We went by the book...methodically. Jared never let emotion override or outpace the facts of the case. Several of the opposing counsel actually quit when they were presented with our overwhelming evidence and airtight case. My ex-wife was using her fifth attorney by the time I was awarded custody of our four children. Thank you, Jared and Abigail and everyone at Prader and Craig. As we start this next chapter in our lives, the happiness and joy in my children's eyes makes all of the struggle somehow worthwhile.

I would strongly recommend to anyone that thet should not hire this lawyer! I paid him an initial consultation fee and then he wanted a $ 1000 retainer to" investigate" my case. He did not repond to me for months and only did so after prompting from me. He could not provide any information that he obtained during his "investigation". He stated that my $1000 were for his "legal conclusions and opinion" which should have been determined during my initial consultation. I got the same service from other attorneys for FREE.

Our first meeting with Mr. Cates wasn't too impressive. His door was open and he was on the phone with, I assume, a client. Apparently an unhappy client. He was loud and brusk with his caller. He apparently was getting more agitated by the minute. He finished the call and after a few minutes called us in. We explained our situation. To be fair it was going to be complicated. In order to file a bankruptcy we (he) had to go over 3 years of amended tax returns. He say he would help for $1500.00. We paid in 3 installments. after 2 weeks I called to check on his progress. We went back to his office and listened to how long and complicated our case was going to be for him to go through. He asked for an additional $500.00. I wrote a check. By this time I couldn't have paid our bills if I had wanted to. He advised us to not pay anyone or try to make arrangements with our creditors now. Long story short. We didn't pay our bills. He never filed not one paper with the court in advance of starting bankruptcy proceedings. He said our case was complicated. (Again and again) Our creditors had already cancelled cards and threatened foreclosure and car repossession. He said it really wouldn't do any good to file bankruptcy now. Creditors were charging off or threatening to sue. He said we should just forget it now. Our credit was gone and now unfixable. He looked up and said "you know you are not getting any money back don't you?" He said our phone time and his reading had run his bill up. We left in shock! In my opinion he should check into anger management classes. I would NEVER refer anyone to this ONE man office. (Oh, he did have a receptionist that worked part time.) And we were out $2,000.00 for NOTHING!

Speeding going well over the limit they wanted me to pay and turnover my license, Mr. Edge worked out a deal where I had to pay a good amount to keep my license but they wanted me to pay a good amount and lose my license before he worked out the wonderful deal he did. Just like the other guy he went up and talked to someone came back and told me what the plan was and I was super excited that I was able to keep my license. I always recommend people to his office whenever they have a problem, because they have a well rounded office, Wood, Odom & Edge - great office.

Arthur "Skin" Edge came recommened from a few different sources in the Newnan area. I had heard he was the "best in town." Although, one person had warned me that he will "plea you out," because he had a friend that was a client of his that he did that with. I decided to go with him due to the more favorable reviews. I had consulted with 2 lawyers before going to see Mr. Edge. Both seemed to ask more questions up front. I was still of the opinion that with the favorable reviews, I would go with him. Over the course of a couple of months, it was difficult to get in contact with Mr. Edge. Even up to the week of the motion hearing, I hadn't gotten the call that his secretary, Karen, told me I would. He texted me to meet him at the courthouse on the day of the hearing 15 minutes before it started at 9 am, and then didn't show up until right at 9. During the day's events, I watched as Mr. Edge represented approximately 10 clients. The recurring theme was that everyone plead out as Guilty, with the majority of them DUI cases. After Mr. Edge had spoken to the State's Attorney, he advised me to enter a plea of guilty as well. He said they were willing to give me a license to drive to work for my plea. Even though there was not a breathalyzer test or video of the stop, he said that the jury would take the officer's version over mine, even without the evidence to support it. He advised me that the court would basically throw the book at me if I chose to go to a jury trial and lost, adding that I may lose my license for the year with no work permit, increased fines were likely, and that I may see jail time. All this from a first time DUI. I protested, but Mr. Edge didn't seem to have any will to go to a jury trial on my behalf. Basically, Mr. Edge made about $15000-20000 dollars that day, while the state racked up another $20000 on his clients. All for something any of us could have done on our own. So much for fighting for your client's right to a fair trial. I truly feel as if Mr. Edge worked for the state, and not me as his client. The moral of the story is don't drink and drive or hire Skin Edge as your attorney if you happen to get charged for DUI.

My first encounter with Miss Holley was through a phone call. I called a few times, but she was not in due to court. Understandable. When I did get ahold of her, I asked her a simple question and got a rude response. Great first impression. She did not show up to the first court date, and did not return any calls from the court or me and did not notify the court of a prior obligation. Second time, she did not show up again and i guess she learned that she had to notify the court if she had an obligation. When she finally decided to show up, she was unprepared. After that, did not return any phone calls and did not see her client in person in order to discuss the case. Things we’re going nowhere. How are you gonna accept a case when you can’t do your job right. Long story short, we got a real lawyer instead.

I went to LaZanea in a time of need like others have. I retained her for a misdemeanor charge last year. The charge was “supposedly” dropped and I got a letter stating such in February of this year. 2 months (April) later I get a letter that the charges were being processed thru Superior Court vs State Court which is the department who sent me the original letter. The charges however remained the same which per our contract she would rep me for. Sadly LaZanea advised me that even thou the charges were the exact same- new court means new retainer. LaZanea left me hanging in a time of need knowing I live out of state. She also doesn’t reply to your messages I’ve requested a itemized statement of my case twice and no reply.

Ms. Oliver was extremely unresponsive, inconsistent and unprofessional. The insurance company reached out to me stating that she dropped my case. She had not notified me at all. I also confirmed with the insurance company on November 29, 2017 that they had extended an offer for me in July of 2017 which my lawyer never communicated. She has wasted an egregious amount of time and is flat out unreliable.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
