I was involved in an auto accident. My vehicle was was struck on the highway by a bus that was in service for a major Bus company. That bus company has the reputation of fighting tooth & nail, anything possible to not pay up. They use every rotten trick in the book, they had a team of high priced top notch killers working for them, they make it as difficult as possible so that others won't dare to sue that particular bus company... but then The Law Office of Frank Prokos, LLC got on their azzes. Frank Prokis used to be an attorney for such a company himself, and but now he's working for the good goys; you and I. He knew their game, got them to heel, and cut that check. Thank you Frank.

Attorney Karp was my ex-wife’s lawyer. He lost at every opportunity he had to win. I caught him sleeping in his car during recess and he should’ve been working on his clients case. On the biggest trial of my divorce settlement; he rested early on his arguments, because he was unprepared, and forgot a major part about the case. When it was time for our defense to make our case, he asked the judge if he could redact his resting. The judge laughed at him and denied his request to laughter’s in the quart room. He is unprepared and he is more concerned with sleeping in his car. I regret my ex-wife fired him. Tommy was the best thing that ever happened to me. If it wasn’t for his inability to come prepared., I might have a different outcome. Because of him, my children and my life is much happier. I have to thank him for being so incompetent. I went to trial against him and out of 14 questions, 13 were overruled. He does not do his homework when he had a layup. He also thinks he’s a tough guy. He tries to intimidate you when you walk out of the court, room and he sits next to you and ask you how you doing while giving you some sort of threat. After the trial, Tom Karp called me drunk on three different occasions at 2 AM, 3 AM and 4:30 AM to say he was going to “f**k me in the a**” I submitted that information and that phone call to the BBO He’s an old man drunk and stay away. You don’t want him to be your lawyer, you want him to be the other lawyer.

I am President of G&G Firearms Experts Inc., of Milford, NH & Lowell, MA. Our organization provides firearms expert witness services. Mr. Karp and I worked on a firearms case in 2011 / 2012. When introduced to the case, I believed the prosecutor had the "possession case" wrapped up. Mr. Karp's persistence made the difference. The client was acquitted of all charges. Mr. Karp's effort was instrumental throughout the case, and at trial . To be honest, I did not believe the case would actually get to a trial. I have worked with other attorneys that would not have contributed the extra effort by taking a plea. Mr. Karp is truly a dedicated defense lawyer!

I was a client of Thomas Karp for a Divorce and Subsequent Issues with contempt of the divorce agreement. His represenatation resulted in a fair settlement and an award of legal fees when my ex was found in contempt. I would strongly recommend him.

Spoke to him on the phone and he told me to email certain materials to him, which I did immediately. A week went by with no communication from him. I sent him an email to confirm that he had received both emails (which had I had relay receipts for both emails and no bounce backs). He never bothered to respond to any emails. I am in the legal field and this lack of communication is a big red flag.

My husband and I worked with Gelerman and Cabral LLC when we purchased our first home this year. We would highly recommend them to anyone who asked. They were very attentive and responsive while going above and beyond without any hidden fees. Thank you for making our home buying experience a little less stressful!

Cynthia represented me with 2 college education matters. The 1st being advocating for my education accommodations when COVID was at its peak and classes moved to Zoom. Cynthia worked in making the college accountable for their lack of resources via Zoom for students with learning disabilities during COVID. Cynthia worked diligently and was always available to listen to my concerns throughout the duration of the case via phone and email. The 2nd education matter was regarding a college course grading calculation. Cynthia again showed her caring nature and commitment in advocating for what is right. Cynthia worked to get the college to answer questions and provide a more detailed course grade calculation. Cynthia is an experienced and knowledgeable attorney that I would highly recommend to anyone with education law matters. Thank you again for all your hard work.

My experience echos others in these reviews. Bad communication and no follow through. I basically paid her 1,500 to write a letter and when that letter was ignored that was the end of hearing from this lawyer. I asked her questions about following up as well as some threats I received after the letter was sent. Crickets. A very disappointing experience. I got farther with this case on my own.

Hired attorney Hoffer of Norwood mass. To represent my workmans comp case. (2015) Biggest mistake of my life. He failed to utilize any records request signed by his client. In fact, all my providers have written that he never made any requests for my medical records. Therefore, years later, bills are still not paid in accordance to the bogus settlement and judges order from 2015. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks following an industrial accident resulting in state reported legionnaires disease. Strangely, my DIA file omitted all the records from my second weeks stay in the hospital amongst many other relevant medicals. Even the ambulance bill had not been paid, though I emailed Hoffer years ago for him to address. He had me sign a liability not determined settlement, however, he later emails that I was APPARENTLY injured by their malfunctioning compressor. Many doctors connected cause and relation, as did NIOSH, by stating there were no additional environmental risk factors outside my workplace. The employer log of employer illness and injury and also confirms. Please be very careful and confirm he has obtain all records to properly resent your case to achieve the best outcome for you, and that he acts as any other attorney would have done under these circumstances..no interview of the many witnesses, no medical records, nonpayment, breach of contract, etc, in my opinion.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
