Has no regard for basic human decency. Didn't return phone calls or e-mails in a timely manner. Let me wander about my case and didn't do a thing to help resolve my issue. Made idle threats with no basis when I promised complaints to the state against him. Stay away from this man for legal services, you will be sorry. 1-star rating is way too high for this guy.

He never returned phone calls or emails, let my case drag on for three years, then tried to do all the work on the day of the court hearing. Completely disorganized and unprofessional. We had three good witnesses that saw this thief rob my family, yet Thomas Anderson never even called them up as witnesses. So when the Defendants lied and said they did not take our stuff, there were no character witnesses to tell the Judge they were lying. Awful man and attorney.

More than happy to bill you. Very hard to get updates on my case and could not get him to return my calls. Lack of professionalism, very poor follow up. I wish I had known about this website prior to making my choice...ignorance is bliss.

I didn't read the reviews first. I was overwhelmed when I got his letter in the mail soliciting me and signed with him without investigation. When I went to his office for the first and only time, he was in flannel pajama pants (red flag). After signing that contract it all went downhill. He is unprofessional and will NOT talk to you and if he has to, he is irritated. His paralegal would contact me via text only and if you wanted to talk...good luck! He will add more stress to your already stressful situation and charges more than more reputable attorneys. Never forget you can fire attorneys, which is what I did with him and got good representation. My new attorney went over things Antonio NEVER did...PLEASE BEWARE!!!

Because Tony did not deem it necessary to be early (nor on time for that matter) for a simple protection order hearing, the judge made the decision to continue the PO, and now I can't even see my son nor be with him for his first birthday, all because his legal opinion thinks it's ok to be late to trial

I hired Antonio (Tony) Vandenbosch for my divorce/child custody case. During the consultation he seemed nice, professional, and i got the impression he would be the type of lawyer who would fight for his client. Unfortunately, it couldn't be further from the truth. He had very poor communication with me throughout the process. He does not respond to phone call or emails. In order to speak with him i had to contact his paralegal to schedule a call a week in advance. He was never available to talk on the spot. He was always with a client or in a meeting. I found this to be unacceptable for an attorney-client relationship. I did not receive a monthly itemized bill from him, which you're supposed to get if you have a good attorney. Yet, he had me making monthly payments and i had no idea what services i was being billed for. To top it off, the few times I spoke to him over the phone he was arrogant and condescending.d He was very rude and unprofessional. Please save your hard earned money and time and go to a lawyer who will work with you

Lied and called her client names. Would show up to court half dressed and hair a mess, literally looking like she just rolled out of bed. Office was a mess, looked like pigs lived there. Never dealt with a more unprofessional attorney ever!

At first, Rich was very interested in why we contacted him. He explained we should bring our legal material to his office for him to review. He stated he would contact us in a couple weeks with his thoughts. After a month, we called the office to get an update. Message left. A few weeks later, message left. A few weeks later, message left. A few weeks later, message left. NO RESPONSE WHAT SO EVER. Very rude considered we contacted him due to sensitive family materials.

Jesse was referred by a family friend. Cordial, but not terribly knowledgeable on what is purportedly his area of expertise, taxes. I was forewarned to some extent when he used the verbiage "I've been told it may take a month and a half" for the IRS to respond to my delinquent returns. (10 months later, nothing) I subsequently retained Howard Kaplan, who resolved my issue with a 45 minute phone call and $300. In my opinion Jesse wasn't/ isn't malicious, he simply lacks the requisite subject knowledge to effectively provide counsel.

Hired Meagan for my divorce and while she wow’d me in the interview and had me convinced she would fight for my kids and I, what followed was anything but the level of service I anticipated receiving. She conducted the entire process via email (only showing up for me once in court) and was put off by questions and my need for additional information to ensure I understood everything. She made the negotiation process very confusing and was not consistent, making me question if I was loosing my mind. Even after thumbing through emails to screenshot her numbers and her words, it didn’t matter, she always had a rebuttal to justify things even though my gut knew they were off. She was pushy. She made me feel like another paycheck for her and not a person. She THREATENED on a few occasions to drop me if I didn’t agree to the terms presented to me and never even considered going to trial on my behalf. She also completely over charges for her services aka representation from behind the keyboard and will rob you blind of any monies you may stand to rightly receive. Her business practice of threatening her clients during such a difficult time in life is shameful. Do not recommend.

Pamela Bloch does not even deserve one star. She did not fight for our case, and gave up immediately as my husband was detained by immigration. My husband entered the U.S. with a legal visa and married a US citizen, and if she would've done things right and filed the things she was supposed to file, on time, my husband would've had his residency months ago. Now detained by immigration, he will soon be deported all because of her bad legal advice. She was only looking out for herself without a care in her clients. I suggest anyone reading this, finds another lawyer. A good one.

Condescending and incompetent. Made big promises and then didn’t follow through after getting paid. Did nothing to fight for me, but blamed me for it. Others with felony charges getting 65 days. My misdemeanor charges and sentenced to 360 days with his “representation”. Waste of time and waste of $6000. Save your time and hard earned money and avoid getting the maximum sentence. Go with a public defender or represent yourself. You will be much better off. No stars and two thumbs down!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
