Dana and all of her staff are amazing. Wife emailed me without any warning she was leaving after 30 years. Dana was able to help get me back on my feet and fought for me every step of the way. As with most things in life, stay organized with all your paperwork and strategy and Dana will do the rest. She also was very conscious of communication to help optimize amount of billable hours. Highly recommended!!

So, I actually interacted mostly with the Topeka office, and a remote assistant, after my initial consultation at their Lawrence location. I never had a problem with getting immediate responses to my questions as they popped up. Everything that needed to be done was handled in a timely and professional manner... I never felt uninformed or caught off guard. The fees were very reasonable for the amount of work they had to do, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this firm. They're good people and they know what they are doing.

Although discussing the end of life, including setting up a Trust, can be uncomfortable, Marian and Amanda, along with their team, made the process feel painless and understandable. From the beginning to the end, they answered all our questions with knowledge and patience. They are very organized and professional, while being friendly and approachable. I highly recommend this firm for all your needs regarding putting a trust together with confidence, knowing they put the work into ensuring your wishes will be carried out just as you desire. and covering different scenarios which could occur upon you or your spouse’s passing. I would definitely recommend them and have suggested this firm to several friends looking to set up a trust.

Working with the Bright Family was an absolute pleasure. They eased every step of the process and helped me navigate it with clarity and confidence. They took the time to explain everything in detail, ensuring I fully understood each aspect. Dee, Christy, Michael, Kimberly, and Mary were all incredibly helpful throughout the entire experience. Their kindness, consideration, and personable approach made what could have been a stressful process feel smooth and manageable. I would definitely recommend their services to anyone seeking a team that truly cares and goes above and beyond to support their clients. Thank you so much!!

ATTENTION: DO NOT hire this family law firm! SAVE YOURSELF! I came here to hire a 'Christian law firm' I did not see a spec of that being the case as I'll explain... it was very misleading. And this really offended me too. For readers knowledge, I have a very long history of experiences with attorneys in various specialities. (Probably around 20, would have to count) I have had multiple family law attorneys in the past retained for multiple years, a few of them you can look up my Google reviews, which are both positive as well as the majority of the rest of my reviews. - just to establish credibility to readers reading this because the bright family law firm will certainly try to damage control the horrendous experience I had here. (I now understand their bad reviews!) I'm a pretty forgiving guy but It was one thing after another but the second I walked in the door I was clearly instantly assumed the 'bad guy' (despite my ex's neverending litigation history that never goes anywhere, aka, it's 99% bologna) Constant negative affirmations. More specifically was the fear mongering and belittling of me. For example, 'I am a bigger guy and therefore because of my body type I'm scary to the Court.' - they literally told me that! Their first comments were unbelievably pessimistic, I was going to lose from day one. (You want an attorney that's instantly confident you will win!) The most baffling thing for me personally that absolutely infuriated me: When I brought up my 8yo son complaining repeatedly of chest pains for years now after being given an experimental drug that's known to be causing heart problems... what was their immediate initial response? Munchausen syndrome! - they instantly ASSUMED I was just lying about my son's health problems! Holy cow! They are straight up dangerous! If you have a child with health problems this is not the place to come! They made me repeatedly feel 2 inches tall. And I think by design. I think their clients are probably getting the same treatment in that they're filled with fear that they're definitely going to lose without them! - truth is, after firing this firm I went to my hearing by myself and represented myself and WON. The final straw that I finally decided to fire them was after they locked my credit card for trying to repeatedly run my card for ballpark in the thousands of dollars range WITHOUT EVEN HAVING THE COURTESY OF ASKING ME BEFORE RUNNING IT. -out of all the attorneys I've ever had, this is the only firm who did not confirm with me before charging one of my credit cards for thousands of dollars. So unprofessional. WENT TO GO USE MY CREDIT CARD AND IT WAS LOCKED WHEN I REALLY NEEDED IT! - and that's sadly how I had to discover this. NOW, after all of that, they charged me almost $6000 to file ONE motion response. You know what's funny about that? The opposing party in these matters (the offense) requested reimbursements for her attorney fees of $2300!!! - THE BRIGHT FAMILY LAW FIRM CHARGES ME 2.5X what the opposing party's attorney charged for the same service!! $6000 for ONE motion response filed!!! That's called THEFT. That's 3X the price I was charged by my former attorneys for the same amount of work in the past. It was so apparent when they were trying to call me everyday just to rack up my bill, I was avoiding answering because the attorney would call me and just completely ramble about things that my former family law attorneys never wasted time doing or trying to bill me for. They seemed to be intentionally wasting my money. "We need to talk about these things for 60 minutes" (could be entirely covered in a 5 minute email, instead I'm charged $680 for a single phone call!) Clearly cookin' the books. I had planned to post pictures of the 2 invoices but decided I should not. The 2 bills were: $2245 & $5930 !!! Moral of the story, if you hire these guys you will have an exceptionally poor experience and be charged nearly 3x what other comparable attorneys charge for the same services. BEWARE- this is all I can do to help you!

Negative. This firm is knowingly contributing the deprivations of rights and it can be seen in United States District of Kansas case 2:23-CV02176, in which Partner Christopher T Wilson is being sued for his lead against the best interest of children. My children. Re:Wilson was just faxed to the State Disciplinary Administrator and affirmative from the Court in Judge ruling 7/14/23 case 18CV03813 shows that Wilson knowingly broke rules of the court. When a second October 24 2022 judge ruling warned Wilson to stop breaking rules of the court. Don't use this firm, that are not only negligent, they are dangerous to children's best interest. Jacob Crane was an excellent attorney. He worked with my case every step of the way, kept on the case and got it dismissed. He never gave up on me and was very genuine and knowledgeable, I can’t express the gratitude my family and I have for him. He kept in touch, provided excellent legal advice and was diligent. He took my case when no other lawyer would and got me a win. Thank you so much Jacob.

He represented me in a business lawsuit in which he displayed terrible communication, utter lack of knowledge, no courtroom skills, and a focus on not saying anything that might annoy the judge. He had his Kansas law license suspended in November 2020, and his Missouri license suspect after that. He is only good at promptly sending outrageous bills. Avoid at all costs.

I have known Mark since 1985 and seen his dedication to his clients and his cases consistently in all of those years. As his client you need not worry about offensive large firm hourly rates to pay for their over-the-top luxuries, or being moved to other attorneys or paralegals with less experience. He has never needed to advertise, and is extremely self-sufficient and responsible, beyond the call of duty. You will be fortunate to be his client.

The Denning Law Firm represented our family in a case resulting from the death of our father at a nursing home. We often would have concerns about the case that would arise numerous times a week, Paeten and Willie always addressed those issues in a professional, friendly manner. We were kept well informed with every step of the process as well as any issues that emerged. Throughout my experience of having worked with other lawyers in the past, I had often felt undervalued as a client. This was not the case with Paeten and Willie Denning. Sometimes it seems that with larger firms I got lost in the crowd or pushed to settle quickly, this was never the case with the Denning Law firm. Our family was always provided guidance but never pushed in a direction that we were uncomfortable with. To the contrary, we felt that our family’s desired outcome was the only one that mattered. Even though our case has now been satisfactorily resolved, I have had needs to be in contact with Paeten Denning and still feel like a valued client. Our family would recommend Denning Law to anyone needing representation in a case involving personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, or any other required civil actions.

I first meet with Ryan for a consult a year before deciding to file for divorce. The advice he gave during that first meeting and every meeting since turned out to be priceless. Even the advice i didn't take. I had a complex/tough case and was amazed at what he was able to accomplish. Not only was he able to get emergency temporary change of custody orders approved while the judge in our case was out of town, he was accurate when setting my expectations as to what can and can't be done. After witnessing him in court arguing on my behalf against other very competent attorneys, I can attest to his ability to get results in such a way that I doubt there would have been any other attorney that would have been able to get as good or a better result. The judge in our case even took time to thank him for his procedural excellence and mentioned that he was the first person to accurately present using the correct procedure. I didn't understand it all but the judge made a big deal and praised him for it. My family was blessed to have had him on our side and i will be grateful to him for years to come.

I’ve sat on this review for months now. I typically just don’t say anything if it’s bad, but it’s been on my mind and heart for months now. An attorney is supposed to be an advocate and protect your best interest. Mine did anything but. The only thing protected was his pockets. A case that I could’ve settled with the other party for $7500 ended up costing me nearly three times that amount. Here are just a few examples of why I will never recommend this firm. During my initial consultation and once I paid the retainer fee, I provided the name, D.O.B., phone number and place of employment for the other party. Three months retaining I receive an email from my lawyer, telling me they are unable to find her. Can I help by providing any information on where she works. So ,I’m being billed for a search that wasn’t even necessary. Once we had our court hearing, the judge failed to render any decision – implying my attorney didn’t do his due diligence in contacting the other party for the quit claim issue – thus pushing the issue down the road and racking up more legal fees. There were many instances when I would receive a text, email or phone call telling me the exact same thing – only to bill me for all three methods of correspondence. Yet my emails and phone calls were oftentimes not returned in a prompt fashion. And again by the time we finally settled the issue, it cost me nearly 20 grand – largely due to no one actually acting as an advocate on my behalf.

Needed advise on an issue with a contractor and they helped answer all my questions. Very responsive to requests and just an overall easy experience. I will be using them in the future if I need help again.

They are over priced and took advantage of me being a single mom while I was very vulnerable. I could have and should have just done my divorce case myself because they promised it wouldn’t be more than my retainer and I’m still paying over a year later.

We are a small HOA. We hired Rick Davis to sue a problem homeowner to get him to comply with the HOA rules and pay for the damages he caused us. We were successful on all counts and could not be happier with the way things turned out.

I emailed Mr. Davis and requested an interview. He was agreeable to that provided I pay him $255 per hour. I appealed to his common sense, but without success. Like any prospective client, I wanted to know about his experience in matters such as mine, his availability, his expectations...you know, common questions of all clients. He informed me that not charging me for this info would be terribly unfair to all the others that iquired about his services . Rick may be a terrific attorney for all I know. But his demands are totally unreasonable. Fortunately, he's not the only attorney around.

I used Rick on an auto I purchased out of state that didn't have a VIN on the car. I found I needed a quiet title to be able to register. Contacted Rick and he took care of everything quickly at a reasonable rate. Highly recommend his services.

This law firm I would not recommend to anyone !!!!! I was in the hospital for months after having abdominal surgery , In which I was referred to Parmele for consultation and possible representation . I agreed to allow them access to my medical files for review to determine further action . In the interim and prior to surgery was working with disability help Group to establish a case for benefits . Adam neidenberg was my attorney with disability help group . Parmele law firm attached themselves to my disability case and have asked for a percentage , after doing nothing ! They reviewed my case for medical negligence and declined to represent , but are holding to a percentage of establishing my disability case and it’s criminal at best ! Do NOT use them for anything ! The service from the very start was awful. I literally talked with the paralegal Ashley. So many times indicating you DONT represent me , But my signature to release my records was used to indicate some connection to receive payment to the point it is holding up my disability payout ! My true attorney felt so bad the with drew their request for payment ! Awful business

Consulted with Ms. Benson-Hebberd to ask questions about a family matter and found her to be professional and empathetic to the situation I was in. I had several very specific questions that I needed guidance on, and felt that she was able to answer them clearly and in a way that gave me a lot of peace of mind moving forward. She followed up with a list of recommended resources for me.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
