I retained this firm for a family law case. The attorneys assigned to me at Susan Fuller's firm in November 2017 were desperately trying to come up with a deal. At the end they said that the opposing attorney said I had breached a contract and that she wasn't saying what that was and if I can think of anything wrong I did. I couldn't think of anything but mentioned that I had medical staff explain something to my ex-husband instead of explaining it myself. My own attorney said you shouldn't have done that and forced me to take a deal that was unfair and wrong for me and still pay consequences for this. I went back a year later for a free consultation bc I was having further issues due to this deal. It was supposed to be a 1 hour consultation, the lady was 45 minutes late, she said she couldn't give me any info bc she didn't have my chart in front of her and said it'd cost me $5k to retain her. I was out the door about 5 minutes before my consultation was over because she had a meeting she had to get to on time which shows how important I am to them. Susan Fuller may be great, but I had an awful experience with the staff at this firm.

From the first moment I met Susan I knew she was force to be reckoned with. I sincerely appreciated that she would always explain the best and worst case scenarios throughout the entire process of my divorce. She would advise from a place of integrity and experience and was always right in her hypothesis of very complicated situations. I was never a billable hour, she knew me by name as did the entire team. I highly recommend her and any of her associates!

Michael Palmer came highly recommended to me by a very well- respected lawyer in Grand County, where I live and filed. His name is Frank Parker. Frank spoked very eloquently about Mr. Palmer. Frank Parker has also recommended countless clients to Mr. Palmer with great satisfaction and successful results. Mr. Palmer provided a complimentary zoom session with me for a consultation, he was very patient with his time and answered all my questions thoughtfully, and he was very thorough! What I like most about Mr. Palmer is how patient and compassionate he is. Because I have never engaged a lawyer, the task felt very daunting. After the consultation, I decided to hire Mr. Palmer and Palmer Family Law. Throughout the whole process, he never lost sight of my needs, and always give me "sound advice"! I highly recommend Michael Palmer and Palmer family Law!

Ashleigh did an amazing job representing me in my family law case. She was on top of my case and worked with me so well. She is one of the best attorneys. She crushed it in my custody modification hearing. She was poised, confident and perfectly argued my case. Maybe it was an easy case maybe she made it look easy. Great job on the outcome that was the best for everyone involved!

The attorneys may be great but the intake department is unprofessional. How is the attorney supposed to make an informed decision on my case when I'm cut off explaining my case and she wanted to give the attorneys ¼ of the story and expect them to make a decision based off that. Find another place that your not a number.

I cannot recommend Ann Atkinson highly enough. She won my mental health disability case outright, no small feat. More than that, she made me feel at ease from the beginning. She explained the process, answered all of my questions, and calmed my nerves. I am so grateful to have had her as my attorney and consider her to be a trusted advisor to this day.

He didn't even bring my file to my court date. I had to tell him what my charge was that he was supposed to be defending me for. The exact outcome that I hired a lawyer to prevent happened and Michael didn't even pretend to put up a fight. It wasn't an extremely serious charge that carried a long jail sentence but when I'm charged $2100 I expect for my lawyer to at least know what my charge is before my court date. I wish I didn't pay. I could have asked the first inmate I saw to defend me and they would have done a better job.

This is a top-notch law firm that has exceeded my expectations at every level. In addition to being effective and professional, the attorneys and staff consistently treated me with kindness and respect. They have an uncommon work ethic and always kept my best interest (and not their bottom line) in mind. I have no hesitation in highly recommending the law services of Clawson & Clawson, LLP. These are not just great attorneys, they are great people.

Amy is currently helping me litigate against A large retailer and has helped my wife in the past with litigation against a pizza delivery worker who t-boned us years ago. I know of no other lawyer who would go through what she's been through with me. She is so responsive, generous, caring and trustworthy. She has helped me tremendously and has been a true friend throughout this ordeal. While she is still learning about Workers Comp cases she is not afraid of the big boys or to ask colleagues for advice or to school herself on the issues. What a tremendous job se has done for me and my family. She helped me get my job back, to win compensability in what seemed like a hopeless case, and we're still fighting. She is tenacious, doesn't give up and her background outside of Workers Comp in other areas of practice proved invaluable in my situation. I have recommended her to several friends and co-workers and she has successfully litigated on their behalf, winning two that I have sent her way and working on two others beside mine. Through my case and others she has become a local expert in dealing with Wal-Mart and standing up to their tactics. I highly recommend her services should you need to stand up to this Goliath. Thank you Amy for all you have done and are still doing. Whatever happens I will be eternally grateful for you! Pastor Joe Senior Pastor, Mile High Bible Institute

This lawyer failed to do what I hired her for. Actually she did the opposite and really hurt my case, continually infuriating the Judge. We constantly asked for itemized statements that was never met and was overcharged for services never preformed. I'm hoping and praying that this will help out others. Thank you for your time.

He sold us a house and carried the note. You would think you could trust an attorney that claims he has your best interest then prepares all the documents. We gave 32k as down payment and have made payments every month since never late. We were approved to refinance the house to find out he was behind on the mortgage and had judgements against him that we're placed on our property. He is horrible to communicate with and does not return calls. I may loose my home because he has no ethics. Anyone who comes across him should beware!!!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
