I got a lot of promises from Mr. Wise about what he could do to help my case but after I signed the paperwork and paid him, his whole attitude changed. He became nasty and wouldn't take calls. He didn't do No more than what a public defender would have done on my case. Hiring him was a waste of my money.

A few months ago I was in an accident and received a ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign. The accident happened at night in a construction area, and the sign was 30 feet from the edge of the road at an odd angle, which resulted in the sign not reflecting in the headlights. In addition, the entire road I was on was well-lit by streetlights except for that particular intersection, which was completely dark. Even the police officer who wrote the ticket told me he would contest it if it were him and specified the reasons. We made a video that night and took pictures the next day. However, never having had any personal experience navigating the court system and after several days of trying to do the research and figure it out on my own I contacted Mr. Wise. It turned out to be the best decision I could have made! He actually gave me a substantial discount because it was a good case - we had the pictures and the video - and he thought it might be a fun case to try. Seriously. I found his attitude as an attorney extremely refreshing and entirely unexpected. This was clearly not the stereotypical attorney who is just interested in the money. He clearly knew, understood, and enjoyed the law. He was very personable and genuinely seemed to care about the case. We ended up with some unexpected glitches which extended the case but he never asked for additional funds. In the end, the court date got switched to a day earlier than scheduled without either of us knowing about it. He was at the courthouse that morning and got the case dismissed before I even knew the date had changed! I would strongly recommend him, and if I ever need an attorney again (not planning to lol) or if anyone I knows needs one I'll contact him first. At least I feel like he would steer me in the right direction even if it isn't the type of case he normally takes.

I'd like to take a moment today and share some feedback about today's traffic court hearing with our local referral attorney Mr. Gregory M. Wise. I was very impressed this morning with Mr. Wise's assistance. Technically, I was guilty and the best I could do was to pay the fine and have Mr. Wise could fight for no points on my insurance record. After the cop failed to appear, and a weak testimony from the opposing party, Mr. Wise completely amazed me and the rest of the traffic court defendants by rattling off some legal jargon that left us all confused and amazed. The judge dismissed the case. I was so elated I could hardly contain my enthusiasm. I've heard "a good attorney knows the law and a great attorney knows the judge." I also argue that superior attorneys including Mr. Wise know the smallest loopholes in the law.

I was with Brett for 2 years and nothing was done for my work comp case. I spoke more with his assistant Kim which is nice, but was never told the truth. After 2 years of no results I switched attorney's. In 2 months with this attorney I have had deposition, "in which I found out I should have had within first couple months of my claim," and now I have had a meditation so hopefully, I can start to getting treatmen! Please dont do as I did and hurt for years being promised they are helping you, when come to find out, 2 years later Brett had filed nothing on my behalf, had no deposition or mediation, the opposing attorney was shocked to find out I had no deposition or mediation.... If you need help GO elsewhere!

Your success when dealing with a workmans compensation claim is greatly influenced by the counsel you receive in the first few day following an accident. Brett Vigodsky is well known and respected in both the medical and legal professions. This is definitely a plus when dealing with Workers Comp claims. Being part of the Levin Law firm adds to that reputation. I just settled a WC claim where Mr. Vigodsky and Paralegal Debbie Bourne represented me. Brett is a straight forward person of integrity. Additionally, I found Debbie Bourne to be an essential asset part of the process. She was an invaluable source of information and was always available to answer any questions. Together, they make a great team.

Dr. John Ralls was extremely helpful in a reviewing a mineral lease for my family. We weren't sure where to even begin trying to lease the property. We heard of Dr. John Ralls from one of my father's acquaintances. He stayed with us and gave very insightful and knowledgeable advice. I would definitely recommend this lawyer for anyone involved in a lease, property, or contract case.

Mr. McDaniel and his staff were very courteous, professional, informative, and efficient. We had to go to him after a different lawyer took 2 months to provide drafts for our Wills - and still couldn't get the information correct. Mr. McDaniel's firm was able to complete it in 1 week. He also explained why certain information couldn't be put in the Will, along with how to list itemized things to individuals to be attached to the Will. It relieved much stress caused by the other lawyer. He also explained a lot of the terms not understood. We really do appreciate him.

Attorney was great in notifying me of actions taken and presenting a similar case and reasons I should be satisfied with actions I had already taken. After I paid a retaining fee we agreed that it would be a rough battle but he was willing to go to court. Some time later he decided it would be unethical for him to pursue the civil case since there was a very slight chance, according to him, that I would win. Now I must start over and search for another attorney and dish out more money than planned.

John Kavartek is wolf in sheep’s clothing. Please save yourself from this man that pretends to be an attorney. I paid him in total 10,000 dollars for my divorce. First meeting with him I was promised the moon. At the end of the divorce I have nothing. I was awarded a small amount and still haven’t received it. In order for John Kavartek to file contempt charge against my ex husband I would have to pay him another 2500 dollars. My advice is represent yourself instead of hiring him. Anyone with a first grade education could do better than john Kavartek

John is the most ethical, understand and compassionate lawyer I have yet to meet. And I've been through many unfortunately. He takes the time to really understand each and every clients needs and knows how royally painful and frustrating the divorce process is. He TRULY has you and even better- your children's best interests at heart. His experience with quasi criminal cases is outstanding. You wont find a better lawyer in the panhandle that will go to bat for you. He will not fail you. I couldn't have asked for any better representation. Call him. You won't regret it.

If you need help with Family Law then Earlynn Stillwell is your attorney! My case was a bit difficult and she never failed me. I live in Alabama and had to fight my custody battle in Florida and she always made sure that I was informed correctly to help guide me in making the right decisions. Even when the judge said he didn't think it was best to involve a guardian ad litem, Earlynn filed the paperwork anyway. She knew that our situation warranted my children having a voice of their own. She referred me to the guardian that was hired and without that guidance, my children may not be home today where they belong. I am eternally grateful to Earlynn and her entire team!

I can’t recommend this attorney because it was too hard to get a hold of her. I was not able to get contacted for a consultation, after multiple attempts over a week. I decided to seek another attorney after the phone call appointment this morning came and went with no call, no email, no anything. It’s disheartening because she said this morning and this time would work.. it was her own suggested date and time, she got to pick. I would have appreciated even a “Can we reschedule, something came up,” or any communication at all, but none came. I scheduled time out of my work day for my 30 minute consultation and never heard anything. Since it was already difficult to get the consultation to begin with, I did not find it in my best interest to remind her of our phone appointment this morning that was missed. I just do not feel valued enough as a client so I will seek help elsewhere.

For the person who claims that doing the footwork on your case will improve your chances of success you are grossly over exaggerating Mr Bayhi's abilities. I have provided every single shred of evidence in a case and after over five months he is still requesting continuances due to lack of time to make any kind of action on the case. Motions are not being filed and requests are not being handled at all not to mention it takes at least a week to get a reply to dozens of voicemails since he can NEVER at any time be reached directly. His obvious confusion in the courtroom has got to be embarrassing. The State Attorneys and the Judges both show their disdain for his performance at nearly every court appearance. Granted as a public defender there is a huge caseload. But everyone else seems to handle theirs with some type of timeliness and professionalism. Mr. Bayhi is overwhelmed in his position and is not meant to be responsible with the freedom and rights of individuals. It is the duty of the P.D. to DEFEND their clients not simply ask them to sign a plea and then ignore their case until they eventually give in and accept it. He should try family court or private practice.

If you had Steve as a lawyer, you had a public defender, which get paid by a yearly salary, not by case. They all have an abundant case load to handle. If you have a case and can't afford a lawyer, its your job to help yourself and your lawyer by doing the footwork. If you would've gone to the law library, instead of playing cards, your outcome would've been different. Steve prevented me from a sentence of 36 years. Which I am very greatful for. He helps those that help themselves, or attempt to. Next time get up off your ass, and work on your case, since you can't afford a private attorney. All Steve needs is a little help from you and he will prove your innocence. Domestic violence? Convicted two times? Pretty much shows what your word is worth. I would say "crappy client" NOT "crappy lawyer"! And to you Steve, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Hope the tugboat's still hanging on the wall:)

I was involved in a dependency case with my 2 children that stemmed from an incident where their mother was arrested for child neglect. We had been separated for going on 2 years, and this particular incident was kept from me. We had been time sharing with the children for over a year, and I had my children with me every week. Mr Cserep was my court appointed attorney, and I do not recommend him after what I've experienced. Mr Cserep did the same thing to me that he was publicly reprimanded for in 2018, failing to communicate with his clients. I tried to reach Mr. Cserep for a month almost with no response. He was available though at our first court date through zoom in the courtroom, but was only available through audio since his camera was "broken". Mr. Cserep claimed he had been trying to reach me and wasn't able to. When I produced a list of all the times and ways I had tried to contact Mr. Cserep, the judge questioned him about whether or not he had received emails from me on certain dates, and Mr. Cserep admitted he did receive my communications, and neglected to respond. This is just one instance of the absurdity and aversion that I encountered throughout my family court experience. Mr. Cserep continued to disappoint me throughout this process until I ultimately decided to remove myself from the proceedings. I thought I would find justice and logic going before a judge, but instead I only found absurdity and aversion. My relationship with my children has suffered so much throughout this process and has ultimately caused irreversible damage. I have been hurt more than you could imagine, and ultimately alienated from my children. My children's mother was given custody after being convicted of felony child neglect, and I lost my rights as a parent. Very eye opening and very sad experience.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
