Tina and Tim have both spent a lot of time on my case. They have been extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and supportive. Not everyone can handle their honesty and approach, but they get stuff done. And they do it with expertise and passion for getting the job done. Excellent petition writing, filing, court appearance (virtual and in-person), thorough, and just a hardcore practice that works as a team and accomplishes a lot. Highly recommend for support orders, divorce, and custody cases.

Horrible person. Posting on Facebook that she will dispose of anyone's cat that gets in her yard. Her words.

Heather is a blazing hot attorney and John Spring goes above and beyond even when court appointed. They make a great team and provide an exemplary service. In my opinion they both deserve 6 stars. They're incendiary in the court room.

This lawyer is one of the worst in the business. Get yourself a real lawyer. John Spring is just like his God-aweful mentor John Murphy, in that they are both frauds, and will just take your money. I should never have allowed a former family member of mine to hire them for MY father's estate. Avoid them at all costs, and if you already hired them, then fire them! They will probably try to charge me for this review, since they charge you for everything, even phone calls that THEY make to you. If I had the resources back then, that I have now, I would have dragged these scammers into court, to get my family's money back. These people are not even qualified to handle traffic tickets, let alone anything actually important. I'd refer to this "lawyer" as an ambulance chaser, but that would imply that they actually do something.

Had high hopes when I got Heather Nichols as a lawyer. But that turned out to be a big mistake. I had Heather as my lawyer for 6+ months and I had nothing taken care of that whole time and getting in contact with anyone was close to impossible. Out of all the times I tried getting ahold of her or her secretary over these 6+ months, I was only answered a hand full of times. After playing the waiting game forever and then finding out that she keeps all of her clients files on an outside porch in a filing cabinet covered with a tarp (because she has no office)... I decided to get a new lawyer. (Who took care of everything and got it done within a month) Heather was the most unprofessional lawyer I have ever used and I would recommend her to absolutely NO ONE. Save yourself the money and look else where. When I asked for my money back (since nothing was done this whole time) she sent me an invoice where it showed out of the 6+ months all she had done was send a few lousy emails and made 1 single phone call. Which apparently cost me $300. And to even get my remaining retainer from her was like pulling teeth. When she did finally decide to answer me, she told me that it was mailed to my new attorney on the 6th.. My attorney never even received it until the 20th and when Heather did answer me about it (surprisingly) she said it was hand delivered which made no sense since she already said it was mailed on the 6th. Unless you enjoy paying for a lawyer and then waiting weeks on end for replies, and months to just have a few emails and 1 call made... DO NOT USE HER. I will NEVER recommend her to anyone. When I say she was unprofessional, I truly mean it.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
