Rich handled my case perfectly and truly went above and beyond when I didn’t do what I was supposed to and saved me from harsher penalties. He took all the pressure off of me and handled majority on his own without me needing to be present or available and packaged the information I needed to know well so I was aware of my obligations. I had a dui back in 2020 and was placed into the ARD program, he extended court dates when I missed one and surprisingly got me some reprieve. I had a bad fall one winter morning on the steps of my apartment building. It was a very serious injury that required surgery and six months of rehab. You can prepare yourself for the physical recovery process however you cannot fully prepare yourself mentally for the stress of your lost wages and the insurmountable medical bills as they begin to roll in. Although I have very good insurance there was still going to be a considerable amount of co-pays due.
I was referred to Steve by a colleague of my mother. I reached out to Steve soon after my surgery. He was professional and informative. He explained to me how the insurance companies work and advised me as to what to be prepared for. He kept in constant communication and kept me in the loop on every discussion he had.
I knew from the first time I spoke with Steve that I made the right choice. Steve was on top of everything and he took the stress away and allowed me to focus on the most important thing, and that was my recovery. He set a goal on what he thought was a fair settlement amount and worked hard to get it. After some push back and low balling from the insurance company Steve was able to get me the settlement that he said he would from day one.

When I first took on the responsibility as primary caretaker for my elderly and infirmed parents, I had no idea the enormity of the process that lay ahead of me.
Mr. Slutsky assisted in procuring and completing the piles of necessary paperwork in caring for my father until his death and in transitioning my mother into nursing home care that would be covered by Medicaid. My eyes were opened to the complications and constantly changing legal landscape of eldercare.
Mr. Slutsky helped me Navigate the labyrinth of Medicaid rules. He explained the nuances of federal regulations and assisted me in circumventing costly pitfalls that would have depleted my parents’ estate. For example, Mr. Slutsky informed me how as caretaker, I must show my address as my parents’ home for at least two years in order to have my father’s house as part of my inheritance rather than have it signed over to the nursing home. Mr. Slutsky’s timely legal advice and expertise also led to the successful signing over of other financial assets to my siblings and me, thus averting their being delegated to the nursing home.
Having the knowledge and direction of Mr. Slutsky was instrumental in helping me maintain my calm over my years as caretaker. Both he and his paralegal were always ready and willing to entertain any concern or worry that I had. It was nothing for me to send an email at midnight and to have received an answer by 6:00 am the next morning alleviating all my anxiety. Mr. Slutsky was always reassuring and genuinely interested in my parents care as well as kind in appreciating my role as caretaker. I cannot tell you how unexpected these traits were and how above and beyond the professionalism of a lawyer they went.
Most importantly was the emotional well- being I experienced in my dealings with Mr. Slutsky. I am confident that my parents were taken care of to the best of my ability and that they have received the care, respect, and love that they deserved in their final years. I am also edified that there are assets of their estate safeguarded to be divided among their children. This would make my parents very happy. They worked hard all their lives and saved well to leave a legacy to their children.

Got connected through a prepaid legal service to do a will. I put this off until the very end of the year when the benefit was about to run out, but Atty. Idell assured me he'd see it through to completion. Despite my repeated mistakes in filling out the form, we were able to get it finished while I was still covered. I am writing to provide some personal comments about the legal work provided by Dennis McCooe, Esq. to my husband and business partner Peter. In 2004, my husband’s life work was taken by the company that manufactures his furniture designs. Because we couldn’t afford to engage an attorney to protect his work, the company continued to knock off his designs and not pay the agreed upon royalties. In 2013, we contacted Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (PVLA) seeking pro bono legal assistance to enforce his rights. From the moment we met Dennis McCooe, our situation started turning around. Dennis suggested we create a timeline of Peter's work, with images and dates. Then he asked us to do the same for the knockoff furniture. We collected and collated 30 years of magazine articles and design books to establish Peter’s work and brand identity prior to commencing his relationship with the offending company. Having gathered all the facts, we traveled together to Lancaster, PA for a negotiation with the offending company and its attorney. After the material was presented, Mr. McCooe asked one question, “If this dispute were to go to trial, and a jury saw this information, how do you think the verdict would go?” Dennis’s clever strategy resulted first in the payment of back royalties and then to a new royalty agreement ratified by the company.
Unbeknownst to us, the company was getting ready to file bankruptcy, which they did in late 2014, while still owing us a great deal of money. Instead of backing away from this case, Dennis and Blank Rome petitioned the creditors of the bankruptcy for the tooling and molds that Peter had designed and made. Because of this intervention, the court released these items. Our life today is much improved. We have a new factory working with us and Peter has a new studio with the equipment we obtained from the bankruptcy proceeding. None of this would have been possible without the generous and steadfast support of our counsel, Dennis McCooe. We will forever be in his debt and hope that he remains a friend for life. We must also thank Blank Rome for its generosity and commitment to bringing justice for artists through the PVLA.
