Attorney Zachary Morey is simply the best. He's brilliant, fast, experienced, kind, responsive & reasonable. He represented me in a landlord/tenant dispute and prevailed in 5 minutes. I'm so fortunate to have retained him. 10/10 in every measurable area of law. He's good looking too.

Mr. Orwig provided outstanding legal advice to both my husband and me. Thanks to his wealth of knowledge and guidance I was prepared and handled my situation with confidence. My husband was a victim of harassment and Mr. Orwig helped us navigate our way through the legal system that was unfamiliar to us. He attended the hearing and the perpetrator was found guilty. We remain grateful for his services.

Maybe she use to be ok but not anymore. Messed everything up to not returning phone calls promptly and not ignoring emails. Always claiming to maybe have used the wrong email address. Kept referring to my ex as my husband when we were never even married. Ended up leaving me stranded in the middle of the court house after I lost money at work and for gas and parking. Claimed she was scared of the other lawyer she had to go up against. Walked out acting scared and quit my case and left my ex to laugh at me that I could not find a competent lawyer.

Worse lawyer I’ve ever delt with. Told me to record every interaction with my child’s father. I did. Then she told me she couldnt use it because of PA wiretap laws. Terrible advice. Wouldnt return calls/emails for weeks. We were supposed to have a meeting a couple weeks before the trial. She postponed it 3 times and then removed herself from my case 2 days before the trial. Do not waste your money.

If you are in need of a lawyer, DO NOT HIRE Kurt Geishauser. Honestly I do not know how he even obtained a certification to practice law. He is a disgrace to the legal justice system and he is soiling the reputation of Emmanuel Dimitriou. I hired him as a criminal defense lawyer for a case that I was charged with crimes I did not commit and Kurt assured me that everything was going to be okay. Everything was not okay as he kept making continuances and feeding me lies and excuses. The ratings he got on Yahoo.com are all 110% true. He never returns your calls and he always shows up to court late. Every time I called his office, the receptionist says that he isn't in his office and would asked me for my number for him to call me back. He never does. Even when I don't call him he does not update me on the status of my case. I receive no response. He waits until the court appearance to tell me and makes an excuse saying that he doesn't find out stuff until last minute. As a lawyer you are supposed to keep your client well informed on the case status. So the only way you can catch him is if you walk into his office. I remember one time I was meeting with him and he had a client who was calling and such and he had told his receptionist to tell the client to stop calling him otherwise he would not work on the client's case anymore. What kind of lawyer does that? Yes it is good that he is in great relations with the District Attorney and Judge, but keep in mind that's not always a good thing. I rather would have hired someone off the street than hire Kurt Geishauser. He is better off being a public defender than a private attorney.

Kurt handled several criminal cases of mine about 3 years back. He was professional, personable, trustworthy, and effective. He also came to consult with me at berks county jail while I was incarcerated for a technical probation violation. This obviously really meant a lot to me. He also came in with me to see my p.o. at a time I was worried about another violation. I hope I never need his services again but it is comforting to me knowing that he is my lawyer.

I met Kurt through mid-penn legal. He told me he would help me with extending my protection from abuse order. Before my hearing I got in contact with him to assure that he was still with me on my case or if I needed to look elsewhere. He told me he was indeed taking care of it. Then the day of my hearing he DID NOT EVEN SHOW UP. Would not answer his phone, nothing. I can understand not wanting to do charity work, but the least he could have done was tell me the truth and say he wouldn't take care of the case for me.

My first visit at this law office went well and I was pleased with the attorney's knowledge, neat little office. Unfortunately this changed drastically. He is VERY VERY hard to get ahold of, does not return calls in a timely manner and most of the time doesn't return calls period. They have an answering machine going all day, when the office's gal finally picks up a call you can tell she has very little or no legal training at all. He seems burnt out, shows no effort or enthusiasm for the profession. My case was important to me, but for him, i can tell it was just another case NUMBER. All this confusion conflict and lack of communication with my attorney just added more stress to an already stressfull situation.I do NOT recommend.

I went here because the billboards everywhere say $250 for divorce but it’s actually closer to $700 right off the bat and they are rude, inconsiderate and only care about money. The secretary is rude, Bernard is just as rude and arrogant. Wouldn’t even let me finish a sentence and explain myself without money. I spoke to another attorney who said the way things were done just to file initial paperwork was wrong. They didn’t help me at all. I’d rather represent myself than deal with them again.

I am a client of Mr. Work since he represents the estate of my parents of which I am a primary beneficiary. I help pay his fees since he has deducted fees from assets of which I have or will inherit. Mr. Work drafted wills, contracts, and trusts which in almost every case have been self contradicting or unclear, and have required much expense by my family to clear up. Mr. Work is very difficult to communicate with because many of my requests for crucial financial information have been ignored or greatly delayed. Many times I have asked for two or more pieces of information, and I will only get one or none. He refused to give me crucial financial information on a building such as annual rent and insurance coverage that I was required to sell to a sibling for "fair market value". After about a month of laborious personal investigation, I found the rental numbers and notified Mr. Work. Then and only then, he came forward and released the rental numbers. He never released the insured value of the property as requested. MY OPINION ONLY

I retained Kelsey for custody case for little over a month, problems showed just two days prior to my hearing, and I will list it here: 1- Kelsey asked for $2500 retainer that I paid in May. 2- Two days prior to the hearing in June I received invoice stating that there is only $500 left from the retainer and I had to pay another $2500 or risk the lawyer not showing up. 3- The itemized bill had a lot of calls and emails with the opposing counsel, none of which I was made aware of except for a couple. 4- The day of the hearing Kelsey came to an agreement with the opposing counsel and I had some issues there but I won't go into it as I am not sure whether my concerns are legitimate or not 5- She also volunteered (without informing me) to do something that's totally out of her job as a lawyer then sent me a huge bill for that! 5- Yesterday, just a little over a week of that hearing I received an itemized bill showing that I only have left a bit over $800, and a long list showing "calls with the other counsel" that I was never made aware of. 6- The other parent used her constantly as a messenger to claim he informed me of x, y and z and she never informed me of any of that, never told him to stop wasting my money by using her needlessly to relay messages that he can simply text me, and yes I got billed for all that. 7- The issue of the ridiculously high amount of "opposing counsel calls" that I never get informed of -just billed for- was raised with her yet she refused to talk to me about that. She blew close to $5k in a little over a month ($2300 of which only in the last week) and when I called her office about that trying to understand because you know I'm not a lawyer maybe there was something that I don't know she accused me of threatening because I said I will use my lawful right as a client by taking it up with the legal bar if I have to, and there was no explanation, and no mention of all those charges, I felt that was very condescending and hypocritical given the fact that she didn't have any problem “threatening” to not show up to my hearing if I hadn't come up with $2500 only couple of days before that hearing, I am disappointed, to say the least, I had a lot of respect for her but now I don't.

Was thinking of filing in early 2014. Filled out paper work and gave him a nice deposit....had his hands open for that. Husband stopped by in the summer to drop off some bills and asked of the progress of the filing the secretary stated she was just finishing up on it. Never heard from him so I called near Christmas of 2014 and left several messages...nothing. Then early 2015 I sent a letter and then got a response through the mail stating I needed to finish some paperwork and sign some things. I replied and said I wanted my money back due to nothing being done. He sent me 400 back and said hed keep the rest in case I changed my mind. Well we repeatedly called him and wrote saying Id like the remainder back due (which is over 800 dollars) to his services were never completed or satisfactory because by then I already paid off my IRS debt in which Mr Gellert was suppose to arrange with them a payment plan but never did before I would be charged interest and wanted it to be freezed before then. Well here it is 2016 and still no deposit back. Im sure he enjoyed lining his pockets and never doing the work he was suppose to. Dont need him now thats for sure. Good luck with this one!

She was given to me by the public defenders office. I first met her while I was in shackles bc I was taken to my prelim from the berks county prison n omg I should've waived it with her defending me. When u get arrested you're either released quickly or u get arraigned over video conference then u go to jail. When you're in jail around here u can represent yourself or fill out a public defender form if u don't already have a lawyer. When u go to the prelim that's the 1st time u actually talk to or see your public defender, n they only give u precisely 2 minutes of their time before u both go to see the judge. I guess that could b considered the PA legal systems constitutional 6th amendment for prisoners. Anyway she presented a terrible defense to the MDJ because she didn't understand my situation very thoroughly based on what she read in the police report and the measly 2 minutes of her time that she gave me. Also the public defenders office NEVER DOES AND NEVER WILL will pick up the phone when you're incarcerated. Christie also comes off (to me at least) as very combative and objective rather than sympathetic and respectful which sucks unless u want to know what the DA is thinking, but then again that's who the PD works for. I'm sure that their are better public defenders out there because I myself have been represented by better ones. This is the type of public defender that will keep you locked up. She treated me like she didn't care about me...a public defender gets paid whether they want to help u or whether they want u to get the maximum sentence....this one screwed me over. You might as well represent yourself or get a respectful attorney.

I concur with every review on this page. In a recent hearing, this person was a disgrace to the judicial system. She was rude, disrespectful, and lacked any patience for this position. I could barely speak without her brash interjections and demeaning comments. When I asked her questions or tried to clarify information, she had no tolerance. The order that was issued was excessively erroneous and will only cause a return to the system in an appeal, which will further backlog the process for all. Without question, she should be disbarred.

I did everything I could to bring evidence on our behalf to the table. I was being falsely accused by my partner for a domestic violence dispute and they were offering me 2 1/2 to 7 years for one charge of strangulation. I almost lost my mind! So I did everything I could to collect text messages and other information that could help us resolve this matter without a felony charge or get the case dismissed completely. On the affidavit of abuse sheet there was a paragraph highlighted saying “there was no damage done” and the victim refused medical attention. Also waited more than 72 hours to get an X-ray and MRI done , just to find the results negative. There was one red mark around the neck and the claim of losing consciousness was absurd. During the time where the police arrived, their body camera footage showed the victim laughing and having a good time with no injuries or concern for safety whatsoever. So now I’m starting to think we have a great shot at trial with what we have on our side now. I spend 6 months in the county jail awaiting trial refusing to wave my 600 speedy trial rights even though she insisted I did wave them. I felt so prepared for the day that was the most important to my freedom and then Debra Lynn Bogert Brown arrives wearing a red dress and half her head shaved! Piercings still in as well. I was baffled to say the least. I looked like more of a lawyer. We deliberated with the Judges about a dispute in evidence and our motion was denied. Right there and then I knew where this was going. I lost my case and they sentenced to 7 years in the State Department of Corrections. I was then persuaded to believe I was Triple RI eligible and that boot camp could’ve been an option as well. All of that was a lie! The worst part was her boss was also present and was spreading the same lies to me as well. Manipulating me at a time where I couldn’t even think 2 minutes into the future. So then the judge starts asking me questions on how I think my lawyer did and I still told him I think she did everything she could. I regret that for life because I know she probably affected somebody else like she did with me. Lies and manipulation. No respect for her clients freedom or integrity for the people she practices her profession for. Now I have a felony on my record and a good chunk of my youth taken away from me as well as terrible memories from incarceration. This woman needs to stop practicing law immediately and find another career before the outcome is worse for the next person in the same position I was in! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
