Would not recommend Mr. Boyd to handle any case. Stay as far away as you can for your own sanity.

I had been in an auto accident and the insurance company was trying to settle with me for $3,000. I had a friend refer me to Boyd Buckingham and Boyd was a joy and to work with. He listened to my story and reassured me that he would take care of me and help settle my case as quickly as possible. He did just that, the insurance company quit harassing me and only spoke to Boyd. Boyd was able to settle my case and in return was able to get me more money then I could ever have expected. He is a very good lawyer that knows the in's and out's of auto personal injury claims.

I wouldn't write this, but I hope that somehow my review will help others. Williams is not an attorney you want on your case because he simply doesn't care. One thing he’s really great at is billing hours so if you are looking to part ways with your hard earned dollars, he’s your guy...for everyone else an honest word of advice - stay away. Summary: incompetent and will not fight for you. After almost 2 months on the case unable to comprehend simple facts while still charging huge amounts of money to review documents. He took over the case and lost motion after motion while always having an excuse why things didn’t work out. I've never received advice that I can say was solid and worth anything other than costing me money. He asked for a $5k retainer when we had an initial consultation. One week later he asked for another $20k stating that either I paid him, or he would withdraw from the case knowing very well that a pretty important court hearing was coming up. In our initial chat I stated clearly that the case was filled with drama but to get me in he figured $5k is enough just to then ask for additional $20k knowing very well that I had no time to look for another attorney. He took a case which was in great shape and lost 2 motions in a matter of weeks, destroyed the case while at the same time billing me over $13k. The saddest thing is that he always had an excuse and just did NOT give a thing of what was happening if he could bill the hours. When I say he DIDN'T CARE, I really DO Mean it. After I hired another attorney, he had the audacity to ask me for $700 retained from my original deposit claiming that he'll need to keep this amount in case there will be a need to help transition my case? No other attorney ever does that, and I have talked to at least a few. Transition...? there was the guy who after more than 7 weeks on the case had no clue what was going on. Did not bother to speak with previous counselor I had (who sadly I had to let go because I couldn't afford him). Only after I pointed out to the engagement agreement that clearly stated that the retainer is fully refundable he agreed to refund whatever was left from the $25k retainer. I would suggest not hiring this attorney.

Walt helped me through one of the toughest experiences of my lifetime and I am eternally grateful. It was a very difficult situation for all involved. I was very emotional and he always talked very straight to me and helped me stay focused. It took time and diligence as most of these situations unfortunately do but we prevailed. I get to watch my son grow up in a much healthier environment because of it. I never felt he overcharged me, I felt his pricing was very fair and he tried to keep my costs down. He is a very caring lawyer. I have recommended Walt many times and will continue to.

Ill prepared seemed clueless about my case despite it all being given all the paperwork and detail even charged me to obtain copy's of a parenting plan he was given at our first meeting and even went to make copy's of.. So i payed $3000 for him to basically do less then I could have accomplished on my own. I felt I was a low priority and someone he could placate to get easy money.

My company has used this attorney for several of our employees, she is not responsive to us, and always uses excuses about having other clients where she has deadlines to meet. If she cannot response in a timely manner, and be attentive, she should not accept new cases until she has capacity. My advice to you is not to use this attorney, STAY AWAY!

Suellen is a woman who fights, but always maintains her integrity. Something, lacking in family law. When my divorce started (going on a year and 8 months) I was broken. I was leaving an abusive relationship, my ex took my children and I had just quit my job. It was extremely complex and messy, but she did exactly what needed to happened including being honest with me about counseling for myself. She fought when I couldn't, but she also puts me in check in when I am being unreasonable. She doesn't play games, especially if it is a divorce with children. Suellen is like a slow drip, she just keeps going to make sure my girls and I have best and most just outcome. Ultimately, the outcome has been better than I could have imagined. She has become a friend and I recommend her whole heartedly! If you have a battle ahead, go with Suellen.

If you are reading this review, then it is my hope that you consider it closely for an accurate review of Ms. Howard's legal services. I hired Ms. Howard more than 15 years ago to be my attorney for a divorce case with child support. I did not hire somebody to listen to me whine about my case, but instead one that would handle my case ethically and professionally, and not promise me a thing but rather just do her part so the outcomes could be the best that could be expected. I retained her because she did the job and the other party in the case did not make things easy at all. I read comments in reviews here that she was rude. I believe people are mistaking candid and 'get the job done' approach as being rude, but instead she is saving her client money and time by just getting to business. I learned over the years that her services were as good as the assistance I provided in my attention to detail in the documents and items she needed to do her job. I did my best to give her what she asked and do it as quickly as I was able to provide it. If I was not wearing my "big boy pants" at anytime, she was quick to get me back on task so that I was able to do my part in it all. I was certain that my children would have the best support and payments were emphasized in court as needing to go to the care of the children, period. When the other party was not complying with court orders, Ms. Howard got things back on track for holding the other party accountable. My case went before the court many times for adjustments over the years as the children grew up and out. Ms. Howard was solid each and every time. If you want an attorney that will 'tell you like it is' and not let you 'slip into a poor me pit of misery,' contact Ms. Howard. Then, do your part in getting her what she needs and do it with more attention and speed than you expect from her. She has other clients, you have perhaps only one attorney. Give her a call. Here 15 years later, I am sure glad I did.

He work on my case and charged me over and over because his notes were like child writing, he quit my case days before final trial, and I had to pay extra for another attorney to try to catch up, and follow his chicken scratch. What a joke of an attorney, if he is recommended for you case , absolutely deny his service.

He listened to what I was trying to succeed and my goals. He made it clear to the other party as well. He would not let me sign unless I was completely satisfied. He listened and understood what i was trying to acheive. He was great at communication for any upcoming scheduling, or cancelations. They would always return messages if the phone was not answered immediatly. I know others who have also had very successful cases. Because of this i would highly recomend him as a lawyer. 2020

I hired Mr. Rank to handle the legalities of a agreed, uncontested divorce for me in May of 2017. He most happily accepted my flat rate payment in full, up front. June, July, August, and half of September I couldn't get in contact with Mr. Rank after placing 13 calls into his office. I was always told "he is very busy, and will call you back shortly". After MONTHS of waiting for a reply from my paid attorney, my soon to be ex wife got tired of waiting (as did I) for a response from Mr. Rank. So she then sought out and revived the required paperwork from a legal assistance firm, and was able to get a court date set. So, fast forward to one week before court. Mr. Ranks secretary calls me to set an appointment, I arrive and have to inform Me. Rank of the pending court date. So now, with a sense of urgency, my wife and I struggle to get a decree that will be acceptable to the court, and email Mr. Ranks secretary back and forth until we have a "valid" document, with the Guarantee that Mr. Rank will validate it himself. Now, the day of court. Mr. Rank shows up 45 minutes late, and informs me that the decree isn't acceptable. When I express my shock as to how this can be, on the day of court, he informs me that " I didn't have time to review the decree" and the only reason was " you're not my only client". His position was that I needed to "grow a pair, and just take that BI+@# to trial". I'm very embarrassed to say that I gave Mr. Rank another $1,000 against what it would cost IF it went to trial. Following week, my wife and I has over the agreement, completing 4 revisions before I take what we believe to be an acceptable decree to Mr. Ranks office to have it approved. Another week goes by, then I get the appointment. Mr. Rank at that point hadn't completed ANY work on the agreement, and for some reason didn't have ANY of the information that had been emailed to his office time and time again during the YEAR. So, being obviously displeased with his lack of progress, I requested that the funds I put up in good faith against the possibility of trial be returned to me. And that's where his complete lack of work ethic and moral showed up clear as day. He had changed our "flat rate" contract I to an "hourly" contract without my knowledge or consent. Then informed me that my "up front, in full" payment was gone, and my in good faith payment against the possibility of trial was also gone. And that I owed him more money. Now, up to this point, he had not completed, or even made ANY progress towards validating the decree that he was too busy to even write up. My wife and I had to do it ourselves out of nessesity due to Mr. Ranks complete lack of work ethic. When I expressed my concerns with his lack of effort to date, his response was " you are annoying me now, you can sit in the waiting room, or leave". If you are considering hiring Mr. Rank as your attorney, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking stacks of hundred dollars bills out of your bank account, and setting them on fire. The end result will be the same, but with less headache.

The bill is outrageous. I believe this guy exaggerated the time he spent in order to overcharge clients. He also charges people at an insane rate just for calling to schedule an appointment. He is not good at explaining things, so I end up paying more money for clarification because I have to spend more time on the call with him. Additionally, he does not accept online payments. It's 2024 — come on! Dealing with an attorney for legal issues is already a headache, and having to work with him only makes the situation worse.

This guy charged me $90 for a 20 second phone call. He basically called me to come to his office to sign the document. I understand that attorney service fee can be expensive but his service fee is just too ridiculous. It seems he clocked too much time for seemingly simply services and so I question his integrity. He also has multiple misspellings in the document he prepared. I believe there are plenty of attorneys who offer better services at a reasonable price.

I hired Dave Tracy to evict a tenant of mine. He is very hard to reach he doesn't keep you updated and doesn't give you any information. He won't return phone calls and or emails but if he does decide to he will charge you 75$ for every email and phone call. Just to get my 3 day pay or vacate out I was already at $1,300.00 well the day we had court we all showed up and he submitted the paper work wrong and we didn't get on the calendar. This delayed my eviction process by 1 month if we tried to redo the process, so he chose to try and work a deal in the hallway with my tenant. The deal he worked up let her stay in my house till the 25th of the month and waived my rights to put it on her credit and any rights to ever go after her for back rent, late fees and attorney fees. After being their for 6 hours I felt backed into a corner he messed up my paper work and I had 2 choices to get her out on the 25th or go threw the process again I wanted out of their so she's moving on the 25th. Keep in mind if he would have done his paper work correctly she would have been out next week and I'd have a judgment for close to $10,000 against these people now I have nothing. I ask him if he would lower his cost since he made a huge mistake he said no I asked for his malpractice insurance he said no and hung up on me. I wouldn't recommend anyone use this guy he's not a good attorney. Huge waste of money and time and made my first eviction a horror story.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
