We hired him for a simple case. Two and half years later haven"t heard from him after several months, wouldn't return our calls went to his office and it was empty. Contacted his ex-secretary and found out he had moved out of town and was working for a different firm! Finally he notified me, didn't show up for our court date and than told me to find someone else and didn't return my money!!

Cris was very unprepared for our trial he misplaced paperwork showed very little evidence even though he had plenty. Overcharged us and we went before a arbitrator committee of the Houston Bar Association that agreed we were overcharged and ordered him to replay 5,070. He never repaid.

Please beware. This attorney Andrew Chacko is extremely disrespectful. He has been a court appointed for Criminal Defense. Apparently he has no interest in helping my case. He refuses to do any work at all. He acts like he knows everything, and does not want to listen. He refuses to Withdraw and refuses to file any motions at all.

Rick is now an Associate Judge, thats how reputable he is in Fort Bend County. I had hired him for atleast 8 cases and hes taken care of all of them and never did more than a week in jail with time served or dismissal

I had an excellent experience with this lawyers office. Mr. Bell was a great help with my family law matter. I would highly recommend him. He was very knowledgeable and explained things in a way I could easily understand. His ability to explain the process to me and what to expect at the courthouse comforted me during a time I had a lot of stress and anxiety. I would highly recommend him.

Plain awful. Unresponsive. Never kept me up to date. Awful paralegals. He simply had too many clients. I had to keep calling him and reminding him to serve my ex which ultimately he did late and then cancelled our court date the night before as he suddenly realized he did not give my ex the proper notice for court. I could go on and on . Please find yourself another lawyer!

James Kincade is one of the worst human beings I delt with. First, he had evidence that would have definitely changed the outcome of a hearing in a divorce case and he didn't even present it in the exhibits. Second, I got him more evidence that the testimony the judge based his ruling on included 2 major perjuries by my wife and this cost money. I asked him to file motions based on new evidence he said I have to pay all what was owed and a retainer. And when I did, the same day he filed for withdrawal claiming financial issues and he has ignored my requests to return my money. Finally he almost never answers emails or phones and always out of the office or will get back to you and nothing. He only cares about money not what's right or justice.

The level of incompetence displayed by Danny during a custody suit was almost incomprehensible to me. Any emails or discovery you send him will be completely disregarded, and asking about them after the fact will get you a deer in headlights look from him. He'll make decisions without conducting due diligence and cares not for the welfare of the children he's representing. On two occasions he misrepresented himself stating he'd conducted conversations with school administrators, so imagine our surprise when those same admins had no knowledge of who he was and put in writing that they'd never spoken to him. If your attorney recommends him, run as fast as you can to get another one. I strongly believe he relies on referrals and will drag out a custody suit as long as he can for self gain. While that last statement is an opinion, every other detail can corroborated with both written emails, and recorded oral conversations.

Very poor performance as a lawyer. He is not reliable, he is not honest and he will talk behind your back to the other lawyer, that you are up against. He is months behind on statements, he has no idea what is good for his clients, his staff turns over yearly due to his passive aggressive behavior. He claims to know a lot, however his clients suffer. Hire at your own risk, I promise you will regret it. He lies on statements to gain more money as well. Very poor ethics, this should not happen when a lawyer is expected by their clients to fight for them, he will stab you in the back.

Informed me after I retained & paid her $5000, that she was connected to the family of the pedophiliac respondant I was divorcing from. Did nothing with the case IN THE 18 MONTHS, she had it, nickel & dimed on every email and message when i tried following up and, didn't return any of the monies paid, including the remaining balance that was unused. Once I was able to cut my losses and find someone else she then took months to turnover records to my newly retained attorney and then said she never had anything to turnover. DO NOT HIRE!!!! Won't post my name because she's that vindictive and my children are still young.

She's representing me right now in a CPS case and I actually thought that we had an understanding and an agreement made. However when we went to court today she didn't ask for anything that we talked about. I was blindsided and pretty much totally pissed. When I tried to talk to her about the matter and explain why I felt the way I was feeling she started to get fly with me and say that she didn't have to be my attorney anymore. She was court appointed to me. However I wish I could return her back and get someone to represent me to my satisfaction period . I am highly disappointed with her representation.

I hired atttorney Troy to handle the criminal and immigration case for my husband but he just took the money and did nothing. He did not have any knowledge of the immigration side which he lied and said he does immigration cases. He did not show up to a scheduled court date where my spouse was detained at. He was called and did not answer. When he finally responded the next day, he said he wasn't aware of the court date. He then went on and said he was sick and had covid. He wouldn't answer calls, text messages nor emails. The address that is posted for his where abouts does not exist. When being paid for his services, that same day, my spouses case was disposed and set free but detained in ICE hold. At that moment he should have returned the money. Instead he lied and became an immigration attorney without any knowledge. Down right not reliable, a lier, not knowledgeable, and irresponsible. By all means, Please do not hire this attorney. If I had the option to rate him a 0 (zero), I would. So unfortunately I had to rate him a 1.

I will make it simple. If your looking for a good attorney to represent you , dont hired Christian Becerra!!!!! you will be making the mistake of your life. He makes you feel as if he cares and talks to you like he knows the law but he only cares for your money and knows nothing. He is a thief, he did nothing in our case like he said he was and at the end we had to hired another attorney that really work in the case and was able to help us. Christian Becerra only took our money!!! We ask him to refund us part of our money because he did nothing but collect our money and he refuse to give us anything back and till this day have not heard from him. It is sad that you hired an attorney and trust that he will help you with your case but in up realiazing that you we made the wrong choice and only got screw up . We lost money and time with this so called attorney but hope that my review can help someone else that is looking into hiring this man stop and think before they get ripped off! At the end we had a good out come but it was only , because we hired a real experience attorney that really knew the law.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
