Robin Lalley represented me in my divorce 3 years ago and I would not recommend her at all. For the most part (without her explaining how she does things), I worked with her junior attorney until all the hard work was done and then Robin jumped in. Robin was dismissive of all of my ideas and questions - even regarding significant, life-altering topics. Robin failed to educate me on major legal issues (thank God I educated myself or would have never known key aspects of my case) and she actually told me incorrect information on more than one occasion. Lastly, Robin did not want to do anything that would cause her to put forth even the least amount of effort. She acted like she was doing me a favor by meeting with me. And she was judgmental and condescending to boot. Go somewhere else. She is not a good lawyer or advocate and she has a defeatist attitude that is useless and the last thing anybody needs.

Robin was and remains a trusted advisor during one of the most difficult times in my life. She was always accessible positive and encouraging offering solid advice and assurance. She guided my case with an open ear and mind - and I had full confidence in her. She consistently made me feel like a I had a true champion on my side. When I had questions she answered them with both a personal touch and sound legal advice. She thoroughly explained the law and the legal environment of my issues. She would be a tremendous asset to any client.

After a false allegation was made against my family, we hired Nathan to stand up for us and take on an incompetent state agency. Nathan surgically and methodically exposed their weak case, incompetence, and bias leading to a swift and decisive dismissal in our favor. If you are facing a government agency and need help, hire Nathan.

This man does not care about children. He ripped a child away from a loving mother based on unsubstantiated lies that were proven false in court. If you want someone who worships Satan, this is him.

I would not recommend this lawyer to anyone. All the glowing reviews seem contrived. This man was rude, spoke down to my family, sloppy looking and totally unprofessional abd sloppy looking. His no nonsense appriach can be construed as brash. Not to be redundant but U can't stress this enough. In addition is fee was astronomical for an obviously simple case. He could not wait to usher me out of his office with the attitude that I was supposed to be impressed with his large irrepressible ego. I highly recommend that you find a respectful induvidual because every person deserves this at the very least.

Pamela and her Paralegal (Lindsey) are Top Notch! Awesome to work with and are understanding to your situation. She asked for the facts and she then built the case. She is the very best and I would not go to any other lawyer in South Carolina. Thank you Pam & Lindsey! You two are a heck of a team!

Pam was very professional in assisting me with my entire divorce process. She explained the steps, explained what to expect, and what to do in the worst case scenario if my divorce filed on adultery did not get the judge's acceptance. She said it will be a flat rate, and was true to her word. I highly recommend her. She is prompt in replying to her email as well as getting back through phone. I am so glad I hired Pam to go through this otherwise painful process.

I highly do not reccomend Anderson Law firm!! I used her for a divorce and did not Represent me to the best of her ability. Did not stand up to the oath she took. Will over charge you. Don't expect to get your attorney fees back because I tried to get them for 5 years. Then she charged me again. Then kept all the money for herself. She is unethical and she was talking to my ex husband helping him while she was still my lawyer which is a big conflict of interest. I will be putting a call in to the The Commission on Lawyer Conduct and Office of Disciplinary Council. I am sure she will take this review down. Look for another attorney.

Cherie was referred to me by a very good friend, my ex married a con artist there were so many lies and accusations against me I thought I’d never see my son again , THANK GOD FOR CHERIE BARTON ... I remember the first conversation with Cherie, we were going through police reports , there were things I was accused of that I never did ...... Cherie specifically asked me if I’d had done these things and that if I did she will not represent me........ referring to some of the reviews above ....... you shouldn’t lie she’s a attorneys she finds out all don’t lie you won’t get dropped mid case ......... as the truth unfolded in my case I ended up with winning custody of my son ...... very good lawyer and would respectfully refer her .... her front office help is sweet , Cherie is a good attorney and does get busy like everyone else, but never did I feel she didn’t have control . PS she’s a BEAST in the court room .

Contacted this firm via their website. We needed help with Will updates, Guardianship / Conservatorship, and establishment of a Special Needs (Disability) Trust for our son. This is the response we received: "This is out of the scope of work our firm offers." Their website CLEARLY states otherwise (see Pic). Perhaps an update is in order. Thanks for the referral though. I was charged with a DUI. Normally, I would have just used any attorney but unfortunately due to my employment any type of blemish on my driving record would have meant immediate termination. I did my research and consulted with three attorneys in the area that specialized in this area of law. I really did not want just any lawyer representing me. I did find that many lawyers were willing to take the case but really did not do a lot of DUI cases. I was quite apprehensive about being in a situation with an attorney who normally does not do a lot of DUI work. After consulting with Steve I found him to be candid and straightforward. He early on told me the positive points and negative points in my case. A close friend of mine had referred me to his office. I decided to retain him upon consultation. Steve and his office staff definitely went to "bat" for me and my case. In the end, I attained a dismissal due to various circumstances surrounding my case. I have never been in a situation like this before in my whole life. I felt much more confident knowing I had Steve and his office by my side. While I do not intend to have any more problems in the future I would always be a client if the need arises. When it is important and a lot is at stake, I would highly recommend anyone to use him as their lawyer.

I am writing this review as a warning to others so they will not have to go through what I went through with Jim Tucker and his firm. Divorce is already hard enough and drawn out, if you hire Mr. Tucker it will only bring you more stress and a guarantee that it will be drawn out for far longer then it needs to be. I hired Jim in July of 2016. He took on my case and assured me it would be an "easy case". After he took my money I didn't hear back from Jim for over 3 months. After countless emails and phone calls I reported the money spent to my credit card agency to try and get a refund. After getting this notification he apologized and seem interested in taking on my case again with a significant discount. Finally over a year later we still haven't even made it to mediation. Separation paperwork wasn't filed till end of October and my spouse didn't get served until January of 2016. I still to date have never seen my spouses response to the separation claim. 6 MONTHS after it was filed with the courts!!! It was like pulling teeth to get a response. The guy didn't seem to have a care in the world about my urgency and it seemed my case was the least important to him. I had to fire him and hire another attorney because it got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. He was never prepared for meetings. Lost emails and paper work I had sent in countless times. Would NEVER respond to my emails or phone calls in a timely manor. Literally months would go by and I would maybe get an email from his paralegal that didn't even address all the questions I had. The divorce has gotten no where and it has been a year and a half sense I moved out and began living separately. Do yourself a favor and hire another Attorney. Lindsey Dasher is great and it has been night and day working with her compared to Jim Tucker.

Mr. Tucker and his associate where outstanding with the help they gave me securing my granddaughter and bringing her back home. I live in NC and my granddaughter was taken to SC by her mother at a supervised visitation. Mr. Tucker was very knowledgeable on the state to state laws and within a day we where able to find my granddaughter and bring her back home. The care they put into this was unbelievable. They made me truly feel that they cared as if this was their own family member. Going through a circumstance like this is no fun but Mr. Tucker took a lot of the worry away. Highly recommend him and the law firm.

I paid the $250 consultation fee and met with Mr. Black and had a good conversation. During our conversation he gave very clear expectations on what he would do to move things forward. I never heard back; I've reached out multiple times, but his office will not respond. I understand that he has no obligation to take my case...that's completely understood, but why not just indicate that? It's a horrible business practice to "ghost" potential clients who just invested their time and $250 into a 30-minute consultation.

First meeting for divorce she made me wait 30 minutes then fell asleep several times during consultation that I paid 350 for. She admitted it was due to personal issue with son’s school. No respect for me or my situation. I was left by my husband of 32 years and her response was to tighten the belt. I would love to see her tighten her belt. This lawyer went above and beyond to help me. I was charged with breach of trust and was guilty as charged. Mr. Sample worked out a deal to clear my record. I would never be able to get another job if not for his help. I see some bad reviews here, but I find it hard to believe they are real. Worst attorney I've ever been around in my entire life. Totally unprofessional - his office is an absolute mess, unprofessional in every way. Literally papers and folders scattered all over the floor that it's not a wonder that he could never remember any of our case details when we would speak with him. I felt like he couldn't care any less about us. He returns phone calls with emails and letters (who mails letters these days for important, time sensitive information? - LOL). No one ever answers the office phone during business hours. Most importantly, he gave us completely false and inaccurate advice that cost us thousands and thousands of dollars. This is a file, pay and move on type of bankruptcy attorney. These guys are fine if you don't have anything special going on. But if you need ANY other type of assistance other than run-of-the-mill chapter 7/13 filing, before, during, or after your case, then do NOT use this attorney. He seemed completely disinterested as soon as he was paid - my opinion. Seriously, if any of the above sounds like something you want to trust your financial future with, then perhaps Mr. Matthews is your guy. Otherwise steer very, very clear. In summary, he fit every imaginable terrible stereotype of every bankruptcy attorney, ever.

This lady is a joke! She was biased and completely incompetent when it comes to investigating for the child’s best interest. She intentionally left out key details in her final report, failed to investigate areas that were specifically asked of her by my lawyer and I, and important evidence like my P.I report showing my ex taking my children to the liquor store two times, and xray photos of my child’s broken arm that happened under his dads care were all left out of the report.. Her investigation was completely false, inadequate, and all around just inconclusive. She ignored text messages and emails proving my ex is an alcoholic, and all other concerns I confronted her with. She caused me to lose my case. I’m now hiring an attorney to fix the mess she has caused due to her negligence and poor investment in my case. She should not be allowed to ever step foot in the court room again, especially when it comes to representing someone’s children. She should be ashamed of her behavior and what she has caused my family.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
