He is attentive and goes out of his way to help when you find yourself in need of his assistance. He keeps you informed and is not closed minded to listen to your suggestions towards your case. He even helped me keep my dog while I was in county jail. And was able to keep me informed about how she was doing. He also put some money on my books so I was able to make a few phone calls. He went out of his way to help me and I am forever greatful!

Typical Good ol' Boy. Hire him if you want him to work against you instead of in your best interest...sadly, with most attorneys in this area, you can say the same.If you're a woman, he might actually pat you on your head & tell you not to worry your pretty little head about it. You're much better off knowing the laws, standing up for your rights and representing yourself. Placer County & its nefarious legal system is a crying shame, but I'm holding out hope that is soon going to change. Malfeasance is something that is going to have to change.

Marissa Vandersluys is an excellent lawyer. She handled my family's car accident case with detail and integrity. In every aspect she was consistently professional, thorough, and compassionate. The accident was a life-changing incident for us, but I will always be thankful for Ms. Vandersluy's competent handling of our case.

Stay away from Cobalt Realty!!! Never evere use their services!!! Their agent never contacted, never responded to my emails and voice messages. Not even when I called the sgency for help with closing on the house. They made a comission on my purchase, but I went through the buying process all alone with the SALES agent (yes, the sales agent helped me, the buyer) and my mortgage broker, who did a lot of what Cobalt should have done. I advise buyers to think twice before using Cobalt for their homme purchase. I am planning to file an official complaint and request an inestigation with the appropriate organizations.

We would highly recommend Colton with Colbalt Real Estate. We had dealt with other agents in the past and they were unable to sell our property. Colton went above and beyond dealing with cantankerous neighbors. He was so successful selling our property and in getting us a great price that we decided to have him list our home for sale. Again he did a great job getting us the price we wanted and in a great time frame. Colton was always available and did a great job answering all of our questions.

Beware of this Lawyer , I ran into her at the Center for fathers and family , Which is a program to help fathers with fatherhood , Michelle was there giving lower priced family lawyer services . I thought everything was great until my first cvourt date , I was late , just as my childs mother had been or not arrived b4 but her lawyer stepped in for her , Michelle did not even bother to show up to court she claimed to have had a rep there in her place but he did not step up on my behalf or even bother to give me a call and he would have found out I was twenty minutes away , But the case was called which lead to me losing my rights . I take my part for bieng late but this is the start , this women openly admitted to me that she within a six month time frame did not have time to look over my case . I lost my case on a technicality , Basically I hired her For Trial , when I missed that court date , I lost my rights and only had six months to file an appeal , I didint know that which is why I had hired her as a lwayer to know the things i dont know . But instead of filling a apeal I was going back and forth to court and mediation for over a year and a half just to be told in court that the apeal time had ended over a year ago . so we had been going back and fourth to court and mediation 3 or 4 times over a year and a half just to get told that I had lost all rights when I did not appeal almost a year prior , I should mention that I was in trial for a case that a judge had already made a ruling on in a prior case but she never looked at my prior cases to evenn know that , and thats her own words "i didint hve time" . Not to mention one of the reasons we where back and fourth to court and mediation so many times within that year and a half period is because Michelle Trigger emailed service to my child's mom instead of mailing it or in person which the judge stated in open court , so he gave us another court date which sent us back into mediation and then back to court by the time i got back into court the six month apeal time had passed . time passed and I wrote reviews about Michelle , first she threatened to sue me then she said it was a misunderstanding and said she would take my cae for free , even though I had already paid her , this turned out to be a strategic move to get to to remove my reviews as she never did anything or submitted anything into court on my behalf , which was critical because at the time my daughters mom was incarcerated which gave nme the perfect opportunity toi get custody . In the hands of my childs mom one child , my son has been killed and she now has 6 CPS cases with my daughter , and continues to do drugs . I thought as a woman and as A family lawyer this would be Michelles biggest concern , getting a child out of harms way and also undoing her wrong in bieng negligent in my first case , but she never submitted one document in over six months , I begged and pleaded with this women to just respond and she ignored me for months . AGAIN BUYER BEWARE

Michelle is great at what she does. I highly recommend hiring her as your Attorney. A friend recommended me contacting Michelle for a second opinion about my case. When the Public Defender given to me almost had me convinced pleading guilty would be a good decision since it was an older case. Well I was looking at a DUI , Driving on suspension, position an multiple other counts. Number one I WASN’T driving an yes I did have drugs on me Bt. Since then I can say I’m 3 yrs sober a Leader in Celebrate Recovery an I work at a pharmacy. My life has changed completely I wasn’t guilty. For the things I was guilty of I was no longer that person. Once I contacted Mrs Trigger she told me from the gate Never plead guilty to a crime never committed 5 years ago or anytime. Long story short we went in with confidence an a plan. With Michelle’s knowledge of the law an skills ALL counts against me have been dropped. Hiring Michelle was the best decision I could have made. She’s an amazing person an again great at what she does . Definitely worth hiring She will fight by your side until the end. Thank you Trigger law!!

He helped me get to the right doctors and people to make sure I was healthy and helped me get my money quickly. I was young and bounced back even with reports I would make full recovery still walked away with a very good sum of money not only to replace my new car and medical bills but in addition a large sum for the circumstances. I retained The Velez Law Firm after being subjected to a hostile, discriminative, and retaliatory work environment. I was treated unfairly, demoted, and eventually fired after 27 years of employment for speaking out against these matters. I left the job feeling hopeless, depressed, and financially deprived. The situation affected me physically and emotionally. I selected Mark Velez and his team to represent me based on recommendations from my lawyer contacts, and by his proven track record of winning and successfully settling employment discrimination cases. From the moment I began working with Mark Velez and his colleague Natalya Grunwald, they were responsive and professional. Mark helped me weigh all my options and potential course of action, and he set realistic expectations from day one. He listened to all the facts and gave insightful explanations as to what to expect during every phase of my case. Mark worked diligently in getting this matter resolved and getting me compensation for the wrong that was done to me by my former employer. The outcome was more than fair and favorable. My experience with The Velez Law Firm was highly positive, and I strongly recommend Mark and his team to anyone that has experienced employment discrimination and retaliation.

Mark Velez took on my Employment discrimination case. I was written up and fired for not completing my job in a timely manner after returning back to work for medical leave. I was out of work for 8 weeks on mental disability leave. I spoke to Mr. Velez for a consultation and he immediately reassured me that being fired was not my fault. Mr. Velez and his team worked tirelessly on my case. Kept me informed at all times and finally won my case. I couldn't have found a better lawyer. Mark Velez is truly a Bulldog in the industry. Highly recommended!

I only spoke with Mark one time before the initial settlement conference. He was obviously unfamiliar with my case. The judge told him that the statue of limitations was up on an important aspect of my case. He was an embarrassment to me. He was the rudest person that I know. He later tried to tell me my case was over when it wasn't. I came away with a small settlement, no job and an IRS bill for $7000. His wife also an attorney said it wasn't taxable.

Only spoke to Brian once, he said he could provide everything from start to finish. After that, he passed me off to an associate attorney. She made more mistakes than I could keep up with. Finally, she passed me off her paralegal who had to finished all the paperwork! I could never get a call back from Brian or the associate attorney. Everytime I called the office, the receptionist was not very helpful, I was told that Brian was not located in that office and she had no way to transfer a call to him. The only person I could finally talk to was the paralegal. Worse experience ever! I felt like this was not a legit real estate attorney group! .

I hired Brian Clark & Associates Attorneys Real Estate Group (ARG) after a CLC referral in October 2023 to represent me at a mediation meeting to attempt to get my earnest money deposit (EMD) returned to me by a sketchy house flipper who misled me during the purchase process. In the initial consultation I was told that this was an easy case and that the fees would be about $3000-$4500 when in the end they spent much more time on this case than they had quoted me for and the bill was closer to $8500. I was initially assigned a young attorney in mid October 2023 but as the mediation date in early November approached she told me that she wouldn’t be able to represent me at the mediation anymore and that one of the partners at the law firm would attend instead. The law firm failed to have my mediation brief and a replacement attorney ready in time for the mediation which forced me to reschedule the mediation session after the mediator contacted me on the weekend before the mediation session letting me know that my attorney failed to give him the mediation brief by the deadline he gave us. After I followed up by email and by phone the weekend before the mediation was supposed to happen they finally assigned a new attorney to my case and he prepared the mediation brief a few days after the mediation was supposed to have occurred. When the mediation finally happened in early December 2023 the attorney failed to properly represent me by going from arguing for the entire EMD to be returned to me to pretty quickly encouraging me to settle for less than half of the EMD. He also called me by the wrong name in front of me when he was presenting to the mediator (he called me Jose instead of my name Jimmy, which honestly felt humiliating and discriminatory coming from the person who was supposed to be keeping my best interest in mind. Ultimately he was a pushover and basically stopped arguing on my behalf, instead buying a few of the counter arguments used against me by the opposing side. That same attorney called me “Jose” again when he wrote up a draft follow-up email to the mediator and claimed it was autocorrect when I questioned him about this and after I had already told him to please stop calling me by the wrong name. I later found out that the young attorney who said she couldn’t represent me anymore had actually stopped working for them even though I was never informed by the law firm about this when she stopped handling my case, and when I showed the legal brief to an attorney friend a few months ago he said he was surprised at the poor quality of legal argumentation on the part of the attorney who wrote it. ARG also tried to bill me for the so-called work that the first attorney did when she failed to meet the mediator’s deadline for the legal briefs. To their credit, ARG removed most of those fees after I disputed those charges. Ultimately, I lost most of my EMD and the little I gained back was pretty much eaten up by ARG’s legal fees. So, if you are looking for legal representation for a real-estate related matter, please look elsewhere because Brian Clark & Associates will waste your time and money.

Brian gave a hard sales pitch to get us to sign him as both an estate attorney and real estate agent. After we signed, my father’s condition worsened and we needed to take out loans to pay for his care. We called Brian to make sure our estate and legal paperwork were in order and he never called us or had another attorney call us. Then, the doctor informed my father was dying and 6 messages and one week later — still no attorney called. In place, Brian had a real estate broker go to my father’s hospital room to get paperwork signed. The real estate broker fielded all legal questions without supervision and ultimately did all the paperwork wrong. We fired Brian and hired an estate law firm who immediately contacted my father and had his trust paperwork correctly set up with all correct notaries and witnesses within a week. After that is done, Brian Clark’s partner finally makes first contact to tell me that I cant fire Brian (even though the legal retainer says i can fire him at any time) because he’s also a real estate broker or assigned one in his office. He insists Brian will sell the house anyway and refuses to acknowledge he was fired. Snake oil salesman. Incompetent. Dishonest.

I had an initial consultation with Ryan about a construction defect/engineering malpractice case and was impressed with him and his firm. He was very thorough and had even printed out the Contractors State License Board and Board for Professional Engineers complaints (300+ pages) I had filed and had sent him by email prior to our meeting. He clearly presented my options and risks in detail and provided his recommendations. Ryan recommended that I wait 30 days to find out what the state agencies I filed complaints with do before retaining him to start legal action. I was impressed by his desire to work as efficiently as possible for me (and thus minimize costs) and also by his generously spending over an hour with me to discuss options and review my documentation. I will definitely hire him if the state regulatory agencies don't resolve my problems.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
