Poor isn’t low enough of a star for this woman. If the rating system goes into the negative, that rating would be too high. I am looking at my convictions and she does nothing to help her clients. Bad decision to hire her, no matter which side she is working for. If she can’t be trusted for whom sheis hired to represent she can’t be trusted any where.

The state of Utah and the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association should be ashamed of this woman, and her previous colleagues including Daniel Torrence. Nathaniel Swift, and the DIShonerable Katherine Bernards-Goodman. They all should be arrested, charged and then have their cases railroaded, just as they schemed to have Luis Sanchez imprisoned despite him wanting to fight his case, and your lack there of, as his own attorney. You had the right to drop him from your cases if it bothered you so much, and him recieve a new DA, but you didn't! INSTEAD, you thought "hey he's just some brown immigrant, who cares?" DESPICABLE.

We were referred to Travis to build trusts for our family and to transfer our business to more secure holdings. What a colossal mistake. After our initial engagement fees were paid, we were expecting to have a little extra money due. But bill after bill kept coming and wouldn’t stop. We tried to get an explanation on each charge, but to no avail. We finally had to contact another lawyer to stop all “work” being done for us and to transfer all our files away from them. The new lawyer had us done quicker, cheaper, and better than we could have hoped. Don’t make the same mistake my husband and I made. Steer clear of Travis and his firm.

We went to Travis to try to settle a $11,000 tax debt. We jump through hoops, spent thousands of dollars, and discovered that there were no calls or attempts made to lessen our debts. My husband and I finally called and got the relief we were looking for. Much to our complete surprise and disgust, we received another $2500 bill for "services rendered". When we attempted to call to discuss this we received the runaround. No one would speak to us. Not Travis or any other attorneys, accounting, paralegals; no one. Clearly they are in some financial issues and in doing further research which we should've done in the 1st Pl., Travis has been reprimanded by the state board. It's absolutely astonishing that someone like him and someone like this company is still in business.

We were looking for a reliable trust attorney to get our affairs in order and ensure our business was properly taken care of. When we sat down with Travis he went through this "system" that he has in which he attempted to get us to sign a $10,000 Engagement letter which would assess all of our assets. All we were really looking for was to tighten our trust and affairs. After we explain this to him we continue to get extremely annoying and unprofessional calls from his office weekly if not twice a week. Absolutely a terrible experience. Keep looking elsewhere!

Kristen is harmful to parent child relationship. She has done more damage to our already hurting family. I understand parents divorce lawyer needing to be bias for there client but Kristen is suppose to be here for the CHILD. She has held a cloud of insecurity over the child and interfered with the progress and relationship of parent and child. I would give her credit if she was doing her job. She is cold and transactional. Does not return calls. She should educate herself about parent alienation this would really help the community.

Perhaps she should have chosen a career as a judge. My children have suffered so much. I made a mistake and the insanity has to stop. My children are not better off where they are right now. She doesn't return phone calls and it isn't like I call numerous times. I care about the best interest of my children, she thinks she does but her process is messing up their little heads. This woman is not only impossible but extremely judgmental. One should not take sides by only knowing what they have seen on paper. Horrific things have occurred in my X's care. She behaves as if the incidences are nothing. I have an X that will do and say anything to bring me down. Our system is so far gone, I have little faith in our country anymore. Thank you Kristen for breaking my children's heart over one mistake. They will never forget what you put them through and they don't even know you're in charge. So I end up looking negligent to them.

I retained Melissa years ago to represent me in a custody evaluation. She made many mistakes which were costly. As a result of her poor representation, my daughter suffered molestation, physical and verbal abuse and severe neglect at the hands of her 'Dad'. Melissa was much more interested in impressing the judge than she was in representing me. Furthermore, in hindsight and after reviewing my case with a reputable Yale attorney, I learned that she was guilty of malpractice due to several issues that she missed and failed to address that to her, a trained attorney should have been glaringly obvious. Melissa is also arrogant, and she tends to leave her clients out of the decision making process. In her mind, she knows best. You can do much better than Melissa. My advice is to keep looking... best of luck.

This attorney is excellent at billing and so much as charging $25 to $50 to read an email and to charge $250 an hour for her paralegal to work with me from what I have seen it's usually $70 to $90 an hour for the paralegal and totally disregarded the first priority in the case and change the wording on the second and third priority to make them mean so much less and then withdrawing from the case a few days before trial at the first hint of conflict and I'm sure she's going to try to take and keep as much of my retainer as she possibly can

I contacted this attorney office to get a consultation on a employment law issue. The secretary would only take my contact information and credit card and demanded a 275.00 without any information about the case. I suspect I pay 275. sit with this guy and then have him charge me more or tell me he cannot take the case. I have contacted other attorneys who want a background first and offer a free consultation. Ya this fish smelled bad and glad I did not pay for nothing.

I saw Erik Strindberg in a newspaper article and felt like that case was similar enough to ours and I was impressed by him. The first meeting was okay. But then it got weird. He could never get our last name right and spelled it wrong on every document and even in emails. How do you continue to spell a semi-common name incorrectly despite signature lines and such? We came in once at his request for hearing prep and he acted like he had no idea who we were and seemed very confused, walking in and out of the room, losing his train of thought frequently and just having no clue about the facts of the case. Not exactly a confidence booster. He treated us like we must be some kind of country bumpkins because we lived in a county other than Salt Lake. He said rude things about the opposing attorney, referring to him as "small time", completely overestimating his own abilities. Plus, he let the STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS LAPSE. Obviously, not a win for us. He seemed to be entirely unaware of the SOL although it was within his specialty. I should have turned him into the Utah state bar.

Didn't react nor respond timely. Didn't seem to even know what he was doing. Constantly cried about his former partner kicking him to the curb and how poor he was. Let my case slide and missed critical responses, deadlines, actions, and refused to hold the other side accountable but called and had a tantrum if his sizable bills weren't paid 10 minutes after he sent over an invoice. Just fall over and surrender before you give him your money. Results will be the same but you'll save a lot of time and expense.

On the 8th month, he tells me to go to do the divorce class which he should have told me that the very first month of filing. He does not work with a paralegal so he did all the paperwork which was more expensive that way. After going to the court and asking them what ariel needed more, I sent that to him by email and he wrote all that back to me and charged me for it!!! Just a ridiculous lawyer!!

I sent him some specific questions about a complicated real estate contract before we met. When I met with him it was obvious that he had not read what I had written him. His diverged into areas that didn’t apply to my situation and in addition, he was totally incorrect in his evaluation. As a result of his mis-information, I ended up spending hours chasing down information only to find out I had been misled. I would have less of a problem with Jeff if he had just refunded the $199 he charged for a half hour on the phone, but when he refused that just added to my annoyance. I have a new lawyer now that was able to answer everything I asked in about 10 minutes and for half the price. If you want a cookie cutter real estate lawyer for a simple LLC Jeff Breglio might be okay. Unfortunately, I probably know more about real estate law that he does and I am not a lawyer so I can’t recommend him at all.

1) I paid $200 for a consultation. I let him know my situation, that attorney's were clearly lying. Lots of evidence as well. Attorney for children says they are fine, CPS does a report showing they are being assaulted and fear their mother. 2) I specifically asked for a bulldog attorney. Michael said he would represent me zealously. 3) This crooked guy didn't even file a hearing transcript when reminded, so I got dinged for it. 4) They said I had two upcoming hearings on the same day. On that day I learned that wasn't true. They said it was an error, but if he really believed there was that second hearing he should have filed for it or requested witnesses. Nothing. It doesn't add up. 5) Then the Friday afternoon before a Monday morning hearing, the guy quit. No joke. And for doing all of that nothing he billed me $5000. That's what the $200 at the start was for. I did not find him to be competent or honest. Avoid this guy and this firm! They take your money and run. That's what they did to me.

Miriam Allred is an attorney I have spoken to at Lexington Law about my case file. She agreed they have deceptive practices about how they work monthly to serve paying clients, and that nothing had happened with my account since January 2021 and she wanted to work on a solution. I shared with her I had been redirected to bad numbers and promised call backs from their call center several times over the last year, without being able to speak to any attorney who the firm stated is working on my case. The call center is staffed not by attorneys or even paralegals but under informed team members who often times will say a lawyer will call you back, or hang up on you. One of the call center staff Riona Floresca shared they hadn't done anything with my account in two years and this shouldn't be happening. Then I was hung up on. I was told consistent misleading information about who was working on my case, how to contact them and even confirmed by Supervisor Clark Aldwin or Aldwin Clark because he used his name differently during the call that John Heath's (regional attorney) number and email was in the website and he could support me. I went to the website during the call and Clark then shared that it was removed. This was misleading. After a year of calling I got through to an actual attorney, Miriam and she agreed it hadn't been provided what I paid for. I shared that my concern now was that many others too had been impacted by this misleading business practice, where call center will say things to get you off the phone that don't happen, that bots most likely send out the same letters for months and in my case years and charge you thousands of dollars forba service that didnt work the month before but is repeated monthly through what I assume to be automation. I personally had been requesting a call for a year and no one followed up and the call center would not connect me to a higher up and I finally had to get an attorney to move the ball on this case and their business practices. I asked for the documented information of my case file and they shared this was the first time this had ever happened. That was alarming, especially from a Law Firm that states they specialize in credit repair. Miriam shared I would a full receive a refund for all the sevice period dating back to January 2021 and this hasn't happened. I also was blocked from my account. I shared like they do I was recording these calls and just want to review her business practices as deceptive and unfair. Lexington Law is operating a scheme and when confronted Miriam shared I would receive a refund and hung up on me. This has yet to happen.

Kevin never kept me in formed about my case I had to be the one to ask him how my case was going. I either called him or Lisa with no answer or emailed him and ask about my case several times. Most of these were unanswered. He dropped the protective order I had put in place because of my abusive husband. When we went to court he seemed unsure of himself, He was unprepared which caused me to lose my case and temp. custody of my children! Also when dealing with the opposing attorney Kevin acted scared of them he let them intimidate him. Instead of sticking up for me he gave my husband anything he wanted because he didn't want to "make them mad". I don't think he has enough experience yet and should not be a divorce attorney. Also his paralegal Lisa Stone had a bad attitude towards me when I thought she was wrong. She is not a person I'd want anyone to have to deal with when having to go through a divorce or any kind of trauma. She has reprimanded me several times through emails and on the phone when I did something wrong. Or if I didn't answer my husband on something. I will be seeking retribution for my case also I'd like Kevin and Lisa fired! They both have shown that they are incapable of handling such delicate cases. I know for a fact that I am not the only case that they have failed on. thanks have a nice day!

Utah Bankruptcy Professionals is any but. It is close to impossible to talk to anyone on the phone if you have a question or concern. I was able to meet with Jody herself only once. She was late for court and did not have the correct paperwork done. They never let me know what I need to do until it was too late. I would get emails with cryptic directions and no attachments of the papers I needed to sign. In short, Jody and her staff are unprofessional, unorganized, and unable to do their jobs well. I would recommend that if you are filing bankruptcy - go elsewhere.

We hired Ben to go after a woman that bought our company and stopped paying. We should have known he wasn’t qualified when the first letter he sent on our behalf was completely wrong!! He obviously didn’t even read up on our case to send an embarrassing letter like that. He never fixed it, told us he sent other letters but we never saw them. We were locked out of my case so there was no proof of anything. He is impossible to get a hold of. He does not return phone calls text or emails! We finally got so fed up we contacted the person we are suing and she said he won’t return her attorneys calls and emails either and that they have not received the paperwork he told us he sent. If you’re contemplating using Ben Grindstaff I suggest you save your money and find an honest competent attorney who will actually work for you and not just steal your money and run! We want a refund and will do whatever needs to be done to get it. The Utah bar association and BBB will be hearing from us!

Very poor hearing and trial prep, hides critical information until forced to turn over, gets flustered in court hearings, cannot “read” the court’s direction, sets unrealistic expectations for clients…”bails” on trial after his lies don’t work….

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
