Rob Leach is knowledgeable and very well-versed in intellectual property law. I asked him to help me create a win-win situation in a complex IP case and he did exactly that. I believe all parties were satisfied. I know I certainly was! I highly recommend him and also think you will find him to be more accessible and personally interested than large firms that handle IP matters.

Mr. Erickson responded to my phone inquiry after I had already spoken with several attorneys. I was extremely impressed with Mr. Erickson's sharp mind and ability to evaluate issues quickly an concisely. He really knows his stuff and doesn't beat around the bush. He asks poignant questions and gives quality information and feedback. He gave me a key bit of information no other lawyers would that could make a difference if another cooperates with my request.

I had an insurance claim that the insurance company quickly denied coverage for. An attorney friend referred Mr. Les Robertson to me because he's an expert in insurance coverage and has a great reputation. Since the first conversation, Mr. Robertson was warm, empathetic, and very clear at explaining the law related to my situation. He told me the insurance should have provided the coverage and was willing to help. In a surprise turn, the insurance company changed their mind a couple of days later and decided to cover for the claim. I didn't need to work with Mr Robertson further but I will not hesitate at all to reach out to him again if there is a need. Highly recommend him!

Ms. Sbranti was an incredible help for a landlord/tenant case that I had a few months back. I had some renter issues with my previous landlord earlier this year. He refused to acknowledge any correspondence that my prior roommates or I sent to him regarding our security deposit. After nearly a month of no communication we got a hold of Ms. Sbranti. She immediately made contact with our landlord and within a week we had our full deposit back plus additional funds. She was extremely professional, timely and proved to be very successful. Without her help I am sure we would be in small claims court and still dealing with this issue five months later.

Rebecca played a key role in a successful family trust contest. My former family member who was also the trustee convinced my incapacitated grandmother to amend the trust greatly in his favor. Rebecca and the team used the documents and information we had to unequivically eviscerate the trustee's defense. This resulted in a settlement in which I received about 90% of what I was originally entitled to. Everyone's case is different, but she is truly a classy professional who will vigorously defend your interests.

I highly recommend Mr. Robinson for anyone (including an attorney) seeking a top appellate attorney. Mr. Robinson demonstrates excellent communication skills; is quick to return phone calls/emails, etc. He is patient, kind and extremely talented. The ripples of Mr. Robinson’s success have been felt throughout the USA, most recently prevailing in a landmark decision against Amazon. I am a retired police officer who now provides investigative services to law firms. I have worked with hundreds of attorneys throughout the USA. Finding an attorney as friendly and talented as Mr. Robinson is rare. Top notch & highly recommend.

Bruce is a well-respected expert in the field of intellectual property. His unique skill set has developed over a quarter of a century practicing law (1) as an attorney in private practice, (2) as patent counsel at successful high-technology companies, and (2) as both a law school instructor and active speaker in the community. My introduction to Bruce, oddly enough, occurred during critical review of a significant patent portfolio he managed as a vice president in the patent division at a Fortune 500 company. I was tasked with evaluating the strength of the patent portfolio in support of a billion-dollar litigation matter, and found that Bruce skillfully built the patent portfolio at issue. My assessment came as no surprise since Bruce is highly regarded for his expertise in developing, managing and exploiting sophisticated intellectual property strategies. Few attorneys match Bruce's experience and abilities.

Being an oncologist and having a few patent ideas, this is a new process for me. I was referred to Mr. Gary Eastman by a trusted attorney. We have been working together for the last 4 months on two patents (medical devices). I am very impressed with Mr.Eastman's knowledge, professionalism, and details in his work. His fee is upfront and reasonable, and the work is first-class. He did research and gave excellent feedbacks on our patents. His staffs are very kind an accommodated. I am very pleased with his services, glad that I have him on my side. I highly recommend him for others. Regards, Huan, MD, Ph.D.

Mr. Rooney helped us a few years back with a creditor that was illegally trying to sue us for a debt that wasn't ours. We felt hopeless and victimized until we were consulted by him. He is extremely knowledgeable and deeply cares for his clients. We came out on top and proved that these phantom debt collectors can't do this to honest working families.

I've worked with Laurence for nearly two decades. He's one of the few attorneys that will attempt to diffuse a situation logically instead of ratchet it up unnecessarily just to raise your billings. Not that he's low-cost :). But a true professional and a very honest person. Not easy to find in an attorney.

Attorney Grace Ajunwa-Dumas has been my attorney for almost three years. She is always accessible, and if she’s not available, she advises me to leave a message and a phone number where I can be reached, and she will call me back within a 24-hour period. To be honest, all of my calls have been returned within the same business day of me calling her. Attorney Ajunwa-Dumas has been very honest with me and has not charged me one cent for attorney fees or anything else. She is very articulate and very knowledgeable in the field of Workers Compensation Law. Attorney Ajunwa-Dumas presents herself in a professional manner and communicates very well with me regarding my Workers Compensation case. She always keeps me abreast as to what’s going on with my Workers Compensation case and frequently checks in with me to see if everything is ok or if I need her for anything. Whenever I need Attorney Ajunwa-Dumas to take care of a situation at hand, she immediately responds to the situation. I wish more attorneys would respond in a professional and timely manner as Attorney Grace Ajunwa-Dumas does. I highly recommend Attorney Grace Ajunwa-Dumas to anyone in need of a Workers Compensation Attorney.

I have used Michael Kielty in two significant legal actions. The first was a David vs Goliath endeavor which Michael handled superbly against some of the biggest and best lawyers in the country. The odds of success were nil and Michael worked tirelessly to engineer an awesome settlement for multiple parties. The second occasion, involved a real estate sale and a subsequent lawsuit against my wife and myself. This case had huge ramifications financially (again) and Michael impressed us again, saving us a small fortune. He'll understate his ability (that's probably wise) and he's always over-delivered on results. I/we trust Michael with ANY legal matter and I wouldn't think of going elsewhere for solid legal advice.

Skilled, diligent, professionally experienced with a deep understanding of the needs of a business - that's how I would describe Patty as her in-house counsel client. My internal clients, who relied on Patty's experience, described her as "a bulldog with lipstick" as she skillfully achieved the results they wanted and needed. Patty understands business needs as few other lawyers (in my experience) understand those needs - and that is a critical and welcome talent.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
