I found myself in desperate need of a lawyer after I was sexually assaulted by a coworker/long time friend of mine. Every avenue I had gone through to hold him accountable led nowhere. I went to our HR department and they did nothing. I went to law enforcement, the DA denied my case. I went to file a restraining order against him so at least he would be removed from the workplace and he lawyered up immediately. I walked into our first hearing by myself and his big shot defense attorney absolutely wiped the floor with me. My restraining order was denied. So I searched and searched for my own legal counsel when I discovered Russell. He was the first person with any kind of power who actually treated me like a human being. The first person who didnt know me from Adam to show any empathy. In all reality, my case wasnt exactly in Russells wheelhouse yet because of my desperate need for help and many roadblocks I encountered, he offered to represent me anyway. He worked day in and day out researching other cases similar to mine and in the end he saved me from having to pay half of my assailants lawyers fees. If you are in need of an attorney who genuinely cares about their clients, Russell is your man!

Russell was excellent attorney. He listened to everything I had to say and came up with a game plan. We decided down a path that we could both agree to and walk away happy with the outcome and I appreciate all his help.

Working in property management is like navigating a mine field of legal issues. Emma Fabeck has always helped me navigate that mine field with ease. Emma has helped me with a ton of different issues such as covenants, contract negotiations, landlord tenant questions, closing escrow, and anything and everything that goes along with real estate. She is my go to attorney for any issue. It just so happens all my problems are real estate related. The thing that sets Emma apart from other attorneys is that she understands the unique challenges I have as a business owner. She is sensitive to my time constraints and always gives me options for how to handle a particular problem. Other attorneys I have gone to have told me to do things only one way without looking into other options. Emma will always present me with options and her recommendation so I can make an informed decisions so I always maintain control.

So far my interactions with Ms. Fabeck have been very positive and very helpful. She responded within 30 minutes to the email inquiry that I sent to her through Avvo. She assessed my situation and offered some useful advice right off the bat. We have spoken since then as well, and I am planning to become a client. It's clear that she is personable, knowledgeable, and attuned to my needs as a client.

Patricia Teunisse was amazing. She returned my call promptly, patiently listened to everything I had to say, and didn't rush me one single bit. I spoke with three attorneys today regarding my real estate matter, and she was by far the most knowledgeable and well versed. She spoke with me over the phone for a long time, and turned down my offer to pay her for her time. I would have went down to her practice and paid her a retainer had she advised that, but she told me that I didn't need to at this point. She's sharp, patient, amazingly well versed on real estate and law, and very empathetic. I will be using her when I need representation, guaranteed.

Hi, I am a Public Works General Contractor in the Orange County area for over 20 years. I was introduced to Patricia Teunisse and Randy Pitre of Pitre & Teunisse in 1998. Our meeting with Patricia and Randy went very well and they have handled all of our legal matters ever since. As a general contractor you don't include money in your bids or nor do you have a budget for legal matters. The best course of action for our business is to stay out of the court room. Patricia and Randy understand this and always guide us to the minimum cost with a legal matter but at the same time protect us from Harms way. Many of our legal matters have to do with a Subcontractor or a Public Entity. Patricia and Randy are extremely well educated in all areas of the law in Public Works, Public Contract Law, Public Codes, CSLB laws and many other areas of our industry. Patricia and Randy understand the needs of a general contractor in that, our focus is on completing the project for our client, when a legal item comes up, Patricia and Randy educate and advise us of all aspects of the legal matter. This has always helped us to make a smart decision to minimize cost and exposure to our company. Patricia and Randy care about the outcome of our legal matters, they are not just about billing a client like so many lawyers are.... They want to minimize legal cost and protect their client! For me, that's what I appreciate the most about Patricia and Randy. They Genuinely care about their client! I would definitely recommend Patricia and Randy to anyone who needs legal advise.

Sandra is a trustworthy, nice, ethical, and smart lawyer. She provided legal represention for my divorce for over 14 months. She understands and is knowlegbable about family law. I would recommend her for simple and straightfoward divorvce cases, with minimal complexity or challenge. That said, for complex, detailed, and combative, and adversarial divorce cases, I would not recommend her. I experienced constant delays, lack of feedback ,and lack of clear direction from Sandra during my case. I had several outstanding issues that were never resolved after many dicussions with her. At times she seemed a bit overwhelmed . After switching to new legal counsel, sevral of my unresolved issues managed by Sandra are in the process of being addressed and resolved after only a few days. I now have a very clear game plan. I like Sandra on a personal basis and wish her much sucesss in the future.

Great experience with Mr. Antill. Fast response, to the point and on time. In regards of the tickets myself and my family members have gotten in the past, he has been able to dismiss 95% of them and make favorable arrangements for the rest for more than a dozen in the past 8 years. I will recommend him to anyone.

Anthill was recommended to us by a former client that was very satisfied. He did a great job for us despite having to deal with a teenager still under the influence of both substance abuse and a volatile teen love affair. He handled it all quite professionally. My son didn't get off scot-free and probably received the same sentence a public defender could have gotten him. Then again, he was guilty of the charge and not in the least cooperative in his defense. Mr. Anthill was always available, returned calls and arrived promptly in court. What Mr. Anthill did provide, in this instance, was taking the time to explain to us what was happening, getting a plea with the DA ahead of time and saving us time in court by having an attorney. I think his price was worth what he provided.

We've been Erika clients for a couples of years . We noticed her lack of experience right away but gave her a shot since she told us about her family. As we go along situation was getting worse because of her unprofessionalism. Then we realized she is prone to swindle . We even Had to go the Bar Association. Be aware!

My husband and I asked her to review our trust. When she came back and said it was out of date, some areas were not legal or no longer legal due to new law, we decide to have her update our documents. She prepared a boiler plate agreement with my step children and our names thrown in, arbitrary ages for our children to inherit, nothing of our intents for how we wanted our estate handled and numerous errors. When we emailed her letting her know that we would be emailing her corrections based on the intents we wanted for our trust - one specific example that the estate be preserved until the youngest child turn 21 - she wrote back and I am paraphrasing but if you don't like my document and what I included, then don't use it. When I emailed again saying we hoped this was a misunderstanding and that all we were wanting was to make sure the trust reflected our desires not hers, her assistant sent us an email saying Ma. Martindale would no longer be working with us because we were not willing to work within the confines of the law. For the record, I repeatedly said we wanted to be legal but wanted to discuss how to meet our desires legally. For the record other than althe review of our former trust, a two minute meeting on the tag end of a meeting with my mother and a two minute phone call, not once did Ms. Martindale inquire as to what my husband and I wanted. Other than one email from her directly basically saying go pound sand, no communication with Ms. Martindale took place. I would never recommend her. I found her unprofessional and disrespectful.

She is horrible. She missed court dates, always got confused on what she was suppose to do, and tried to have us pay her an extra $1000.00 which turned out to be a mathamatical error (guess she doesnt own a calculator) Do your self a favor and DO NOT hire her. It seems all she wants is a lot of money and if your settlement isnt enough she will be rude and non professional.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
