My now husband and I were in need of an attorney that could help us with a pre-nupt before our wedding date. We called many family lawyers in the region that either didn't do pre-nupts anymore or didn't want to make the time to help us. We only had three weeks to make it happen and we didn't know there was also a 7-day required waiting period for the State of CA. We called Sally because ARAG referred her and she was able to help us in such a narrow timeframe. Sally was able to represent me and her officemate was able to represent my husband. We were able to get everything signed by our wedding date. She was so fast at getting back to us and asked us questions to make sure that the legal wording accurately reflected our intentions. She was even able to assist us with amending our shared property title and notarize a couple of documents. When i met Christopher Montoya I was incarcerated in the Santa clara county department of corrections and looking at a 3 strikes case where my maxium exposure wouod have been 30 years to lofe sentence if convicted. I had just been release from prison 13 days prior (I recieved 2 strikes on that case) to being charged with a new case in which i was looking at an additional 4 strikes and my sense of hope was only shared by one other person and that was Chris Montoya. I knew my case was a clear cut self denfese case as I was defending my family, my home and our property against 2 men however i knew that with my record, the fact i had just been relased from prison, and just cumulatively that the facts of the case were not going to be on my side was discouraging. Almost every laywer i spoke to told me that ny chances were not terrible, but they were definitely not good. Chris Montoya was always straight forward with me and professional, he never gave me any false hope, but instead was always adamant about the facts, giving me realistic advice about my case and was always logical in his observations of the case. Sometimes i wondered if chris ever slept becuase it seemed like he worked day and night non- stop on my case even though i knew he had other cases and a huge work load. The level of.professionalism he conducted himself worh was truly inspiring along side his tenacious attitude about his approach on dealing with the minutiae details surronding my case. Agaisnt his advice I decided to take my case to speedy trial and throughout the entire pricess whether it was the prelims, bail motions or trial readiness, Chris was always prepared and seemed to know every detail about those appearances and always let me know what i could expect. Chris spent many hours off the clock coming to visit with me at the jail to give me updates, to go over the facts, to let me know what his investigators were finding and giving me realistic faith that our case was getting stronger and that He would be ready to put on the fight of a lifetime to literally save my life. There were times i thought about getting a private attorney because there was so much on the line for me, if I lost this Trial i would spend the rest of my life in prison and i was only 34 years old at the time. It was something about the look in his eyes, his approach, his confindence in himself that made me feel Chris was the man for the job, so i wrnt with my gut and trusted him to fight for my life and i was right, He was. When i came time for trial, i had 2 witnesses against me alongside police testimony and a lengthy criminal history which none of these were going to be favorable for me winning my case. All i had was chris and even though i didnt want to testify Chris urged me to as he explained to me that this would be my best chance to win my trial. I trusted Chris and we spent countless hours working together on my testimony and he and i went to trial with all the odds stacked against us. Despite these glaring issues, Chris was prepared and every detail of the case was meticulously combed through by chris, from the jury selection, thr voir diers, the inlimes, and of the course Chris shinned with his experience as an attorney in the cross examinations, bringing to life crucial facts that stregthened our case. When it came time for me to tale the stand and fight for my life, I put my faith in GOD and i believed in chris so i told my story truthfully and with Chris in my corner i knew that I would be heard. As the closing arguments proceeded Chris illuminated the room with his natural charisma, but what stood out more was his passion and quest to tell my story, the truth. You could tell that Chris was born to do this for a living, to defens those who can not defend themselves. As the trial came to a close, the jury was unable to reach a unamious verdict, but instead the jury was hung 10-2 on one count and 9-3 in another in favor of not guilty. I was relased the follwing court date.

Jim is a meticulous and detailed oriented attorney. He is also very professional and easy to understand. He respects his clients and doesn't "talk down" to them. If there is a concept of the law that I don't understand off the bat, Jim has a knack to quickly explain it in a different fashion that enables me to understand a difficult concept. Mr. Ashley, unlike any other attorney with whom I have worked, makes himself available day or night any day of the week. Do not let his calm, good natured demeanor mislead you. He is a tough, tough, no nonsense fighter in the court room. He knows "the game" and plays his hand well. He is the eye of the storm. He has a great personality, is well liked and that plays a very big part in a case. His credentials do not show it but he has fought against very highly respected and well known attorneys in multi-million dollar court cases. In my case specifically, I would have been happy with a $1.5M settlement. I am cashing in my settlement check for $17.5M today. One of the defendants is now out of business. He actually recruited one of the attorneys on the other side to work for him! He manages people tremendously well. he sees the big picture and can calm a very explosive situation with just a couple of phone calls. Mr. Ashley is extremely under rated. Extremely.

This is a complicated review to write as Mr Morris was actually the DA who was prosecuting my case. But I must give credit where credit is due. I admire a person who shows conviction and tenacity. Mr. Morris unfortunately was going thru troubling times in his personal life, But didn't allow that to affect his performance in the courtroom. My personal belief is that Mr Morris knew the charges against me were shady and bogus. Yet he stuck to his job and represented the state with conviction. It was an honor to meet in the arena of the courtroom. and to watch him keep his case together despite the crumbling of his evidence and witness's. Should he ever decide to jump the fence and become a defense attorney. I think he will make an Awesome one and will truly make his mark on the world. My hats off to you Mr Morris.

I received a citation for public intoxication and a secondary charge. At arraignment, I spoke with him briefly and he was able to swiftly work a deal with the prosecutor to offer me diversion for the secondary charge. With the diversion program, both charges are dismissed and I avoided 2 misdemeanors.
This guy works out great deals with the prosecutor. On top of that, he is very nice and professional. It cost me nothing (I'm not eligible for a public defender, but Palo Alto court provides one to automatically in the case one does not have a lawyer present for misdemeanor cases), which is even better.

Amanda, is quite possibly one of the most outstanding public defenders to grace the halls of the office of the public defender of Santa Clara county in San Jose, California. I had a stalking case that I seriously did not want to go through a trial for. Knowing this, Amanda was able to bargain a deal that saved me from having to go to prison and instead I was released on probation. The only thing I regret is not letting Amanda know how grateful I was to have had her as an attorney in a court of law. In any case, she was very astute and knowledgeable, her performance was greatly appreciated.

I called Mr. Hoopes for a consultation regarding a family members who is facing felony charges. He spend almost an hour explainnig the different scenarios and consequences with every move made in court. He also informed me on what evidence should be presented in order to make the case stronger. My situation was the collection firm tried to collect more than 20000 dollar from me. They took me to court tried to get me pay them. They mistaken me with someone else. I hired a lawyer to appear with me in court. he charged me 750 dollar for two hours in court. He charged me but he did not appear in court when the time come. That lawyer did not even return my money. I then hired Teresa Vu to help me with my problem. She did a very good job to get me out of the trouble. she was honest, did not take my money and run away. If it was not for the dedication, tenacity, knowledge and professional services provided by Steve Defilippis, I would still be in state prison today. I was convicted of second degree murder in 1986. I am fully culpable for the tragedy I committed and nothing but remorseful for it. Although I dedicated my life to change and rehabilitation from the beginning of my incarceration, after my second parole hearing in 2000, I realized that might not never get out of prison. It seemed hopeless. That is when I hired Steve, my life began to change for the better and hope began to take root. The facts of my crime and the politics of parole did not make for an easy case; in fact, the legal process of post-conviction parole issues are complex, frustrating and often arbitrary. Steve gave me solid advice on exactly what I needed to do while incarcerated to improve my chance of being found suitable. His advise helped me to grow and become a better man. More importantly, he fought long and hard for me in state and federal court until we finally won in the Riverside County Superior Court (2010) and the California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division 2 (2012). I was found suitable for parole at a court ordered parole hearing on August 3, 2012 and released on parole after the Governor took no further action on January 8, 2013. Steve never gave up--even when it seemed there was no hope. He provided me with post-conviction legal assistance that was cutting-edge and at the forefront of the constantly changing arena of California parole law. His expertise is documented in published and unpublished case law. The office staff at Picone & Defilippis have always treated me with respect, kindness and genuine assistance that a person like me, convicted of murder, rarely receives from the public. The State of California needs more attorneys like Steve Defilippis who can bring balance to the scales of justice. I am sincerely grateful for the focused legal services that Steve and his staff provided for me. Those services continue today and into the future, because a successful period of parole and will require the guidance and experience of Steve to help me assimilate back into society.
