We can see why Melissa is head of her own firm! She is a genuine person who cares about her clients (a la "small town lawyer"), but has a wealth of legal knowledge and expertise (a la "big city attorney"). She doesn't bill for every second of every conversation like our previous attorneys at another firm. She only bills us for when we talk business as it should be. Her firm's rates are pretty good. Honestly, I would pay more given the highly personal service and amazing attention to detail but no rate increases since we moved our matters to BLF. Her firm is very modern with email billing and going paperless wherever possible, but like us she can be old school too and certain things are on paper and as she says, "Always will be. Lawyers like paper." BLF is in a building in downtown SLO with free parking and a nice conference room. She does intellectual property for us and advises us on our business matters and writes our contracts. She's got a great perspective from her experience at big firms and owning her own business too. We think she is a diamond in the rough because she was in the paper for winning awards, is the President of the SLO Bar group, and despite all of these things, she is always the one who handles our work and communicates with us. When we dealt with our previous lawyers, they said the head attorney would handle everything and we were paying for that experience, but it was obvious that wasn't the case. With BLF however, Melissa talks to us directly and even on weekends if there is a time sensitive matter. She has gotten two trademarks for us on the first attempt that the previous attorneys couldn't get despite wasting our time and money. Can't say enough about how pleased we are with Melissa and BLF. That's why we decided to write a review. Saw the AVVO commercials on TV, looked her up because I was curious, and was surprised she wasn't ranked higher! Hope this helps you because we we know we could have saved a lot of time, money and stress if we had found her sooner!

I had Mr. Bettencourt assist me responding to a demand letter and my rights as a citizen to be heard on an issue of public concern. He truly impressed me with his intellect, legal knowledge, and timely action. His written response was succinct, fact based, firm, and professional. His actions left me feeling the matter was in the best of hands. He carefully read through my supporting documentation; accurately assessed the situation and then some; and appreciated my point of view and concerns. Mr. Bettencourt went further and guided me to on-line reference materials that helped me understand what was happening. Mr. Bettencourt is a cut-above attorney.

With the unexpected necessity and the high probability of needing a litigating attorney, my brother and I went on the search, for what we hoped would be, an aggressive litigator and not a legend in his/her own mind! An additional condition was that the litigator would need to appear in court outside SLO County. We first interviewed three trust/probate attorneys. Have you ever interviewed will/trust/probate attorneys? Molecularly and detrimentally lack of aggression. All three told us court would never rule in our favor. Then we were referred to the best of the best in SLO! After reviewing our filing (I had started process) they opinionized that we had a case. And, that they do not appear outside SLO!! But... they wanted to refer me to firms that do. That office seemed to be stuck on one of three; The Baily Law Firm.
Our in person interview was with Jonas Baily. My bother and I were impressed. He didn't stop asking questions or listening until the three of us were certain that "he gets it"! And he did get it!
He prevailed. Not only did we get reimbursed the monies that had been absconded, the respondent settled including attorney fees.
I was the "go to". I was, am still, very impressed with the firm. In addition to the attorney's skills and personality, the support assistants were wonderful. Always returned calls, emails, etc.This was an intra-family matter. All showed and maintained empathy and were perfectly professional.

I called this office at a time of great stress. My first contact was Shoshannah (the office manager, whose professional and calm demeanor was very appreciated). Mr. Galambos then spent time with my family, letting us know what to expect and how to negotiate the best outcome through each step we faced. Not only was he helpful to us regarding outcome, but he was pleasant to speak with, and we left each interaction feeling calmer than we entered it. Our family's situation was relatively minor, but mishandling it could've made it a far bigger deal than necessary. Mr. Galambos's counsel allowed us to keep it as minor as we'd hoped.

There is an extreme amount of trust, and a giant leap of faith one must take in hiring an attorney. Hiring a lawyer in family law matters of this nature entails tying some of the most painful and difficult decisions of your life to another humans' skill set, and trusting that they can and will properly represent you during a time when it's hard to trust anyone. It involves handing over deeply personal intimate details, sometimes through scraping together the funds to access their help. It's a big deal, and that's why I'm writing this review.
It's important to me to authentically share my experience as John Hosfords client in order to give prospective clients the insight to appreciate what a sound decision hiring this firm is. I aim to help alleviate worry and provide those reading this hope in a place where for me, there wasn't any before meeting my incredible attorney:
I was forced to put everything I had into Mr. Hosfords hands due to the complexities of my case. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. My case was transferred from another county, I was beyond nervous to switch attorneys. John Hosford expertly handled the transition leaving my old attorney with nothing but complementary and encouraging things to say after she worked with him on the transfer. Once in SLO county, he was able to systematically free us from the oppressions and injustices of my situation. He repeatedly went above and beyond to ensure success. After this experience I can confidently say, you will not find this level of rectitude, legal nurturing, diligence, grit, and expert guidance anywhere else.
I also quickly learned that despite his fierce presence, Mr. Hosford is deeply rooted in compassion, a savage yet professional protective nature, and judicial righteousness toward his clients. Beyond Mr. Hosfords incredibly adept legal skill and knowledge, there is not a dollar amount or unit of measurement one can put on the level of commitment, heart, and security Mr. Hosford and Gillett Law gives to their clients, it's not something they are required to do...they just do it. I want to take a moment to thank the entire staff at the Daniel J. O'Neill law office in SLO town for their 2+ year work handling my neck injury claim. When I was involved in what I thought was a typical rear end accident in 2019, I didn’t realize my neck complaints would persist and worsen over time. It got to the point where conservative measures were not providing any relief but I had gotten to the point of just accepting that the pain I had was something I would need to get used to. After an initial consultation with his law office, Mr. O’Neill surprising offered to file a claim on my behalf. Not only did he offer to represent me, he also provided a different perspective regarding pain clinic procedures that were not previously considered. After several unsuccessful procedures locally in the Bay Area, he referred me to Dr. Jordon, a Pain Specialist in Santa Monica, that was able to identify the source of injury after specific diagnostic testing. It took approximately a year of procedures and tests, but eventually we were able to find some relief and resume a more normal lifestyle with the family. During this whole time, I never inquired about how much this case might be worth since my main intention was getting pain relief.
Throughout the whole process of collecting records, submitting forms and discovery, the entire office staff was patient, respectful and thorough. It was clear that the behind the scenes work of the case was extensive. Mr. O’Neill and the support staff spent countless hours with preparation for our deposition, the IME and progressive negotiations with the insurance provider. In the end, with much diligence and savvy negotiations, I received a settlement beyond any of my expectations. I understand the settlement will not cure my neck issue, but it does provide some peace of mind for covering future care and future needs of my family.

After consultation, Mr. O'Neill agreed to take on my car accident case. He gave me instruction on what information he needed me to gather for him; police report, hospital and medical records etc. and I got busy doing just that. I called him back to explain that the hospital could not forward my records for a month to which he replied that it was fine. Just after I received the records and had compiled all the required information, I received an email from Mr. O'Neill's assistant that he was too busy and would no longer be helping me. I was devastated! I emailed and phoned him once, imploring him to please help me. If he was too busy at the time, i was willing to wait, but he still refused. i had only spoken to him a few times initially and the one other time regarding the wait for hospital records, so i wonder if it was not for some other reason than just being 'too busy' as I was willing to wait. I had spent much effort and money to gather all my information and records together ready to send to him. If Mr. O'Neill had indeed become too busy, then I feel it would have been respectful and more appropriate to refuse to represent the new cases rather than refuse my case that he had accepted a month prior. after my initial consult with Mr. O'Neill, i felt so hopeful and thought I had found a good, caring person to help me. Words cannot express the emotional devastation I felt when he 'dumped' me as it was during a very tragic and difficult time in my life. I feel Mr. O'Neill treated me disrespectfully and uncaringly.

I hired Mr. Galambos to help me out with two misdemeanor charges I received within 90 days of each other. This not only could have made me lose my license for a whole year, but also could have made these misdemeanors permanent on my record. Mr. Galambos negotiated with the prosecutors to making my punishment a simple infraction which resulted in a small fine that I easily paid off. Guy Galambos is a great person who is very easy to talk to and a great lawyer who will significantly help anyone out! I highly recommend him.

I called this office at a time of great stress. My first contact was Shoshannah (the office manager, whose professional and calm demeanor was very appreciated). Mr. Galambos then spent time with my family, letting us know what to expect and how to negotiate the best outcome through each step we faced. Not only was he helpful to us regarding outcome, but he was pleasant to speak with, and we left each interaction feeling calmer than we entered it. Our family's situation was relatively minor, but mishandling it could've made it a far bigger deal than necessary. Mr. Galambos's counsel allowed us to keep it as minor as we'd hoped.

There is an extreme amount of trust, and a giant leap of faith one must take in hiring an attorney. Hiring a lawyer in family law matters of this nature entails tying some of the most painful and difficult decisions of your life to another humans' skill set, and trusting that they can and will properly represent you during a time when it's hard to trust anyone. It involves handing over deeply personal intimate details, sometimes through scraping together the funds to access their help. It's a big deal, and that's why I'm writing this review.
It's important to me to authentically share my experience as John Hosfords client in order to give prospective clients the insight to appreciate what a sound decision hiring this firm is. I aim to help alleviate worry and provide those reading this hope in a place where for me, there wasn't any before meeting my incredible attorney:
I was forced to put everything I had into Mr. Hosfords hands due to the complexities of my case. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. My case was transferred from another county, I was beyond nervous to switch attorneys. John Hosford expertly handled the transition leaving my old attorney with nothing but complementary and encouraging things to say after she worked with him on the transfer. Once in SLO county, he was able to systematically free us from the oppressions and injustices of my situation. He repeatedly went above and beyond to ensure success.
