I couldn't be more impressed with Jay from the Hall Underwood Law Firm. My husband had asked a question on AVVO regarding a situation we were dealing with with and Jay responded very quickly and offered a consultation. We knew immediately after speaking with Jay that we would hire him to help us with our legal situation. Jay always had our best interest in mind and was also very upfront to set expectations through our legal battle which was much appreciated. He was always incredibly quick to respond to our emails which made communication a breeze. It is so hard to find and attorney you can trust that actually cares for you. We can't thank you enough Jay for everything you did for our us. If you're looking for a family law attorney please contact the Hall Underwood Law Firm. The Cole's

I had been in AZ for approximately 2 years, before being charged with an aggravated DUI (wrong way driving) which is a felony. I had never been in trouble prior to this incident and was scared out of my mind. Mr. Ramos was hired, after I terminated my first attorney, for almost jeopardizing my professional license. As many have stated in their reviews, when I initially contacted Mr. Ramos, he seemed caring, showed empathy, and seemed eager to assist. He even alluded to possibly getting my charges dropped, due to me correcting my mistake and not actually getting pulled over going the wrong way. Quick sidebar: When the police pulled me over, they stated that my vehicle fit the description of a call that they received about a car going the wrong way. No one was injured and there was no accident as, I had corrected my mistake and was going the right way when I got pulled over. Anyway, moving forward (throughout a 2 year span), he attended some of my court hearings and on the last hearing, where I would be convicted, he stated, “We got a deviated offer and I think you should take it.” Mind you, I never knew what the initial offer was, until that day. So, the initial offer was 4 months in prison and the deviated offer was 2 months in county jail. I didn’t want to do either but, I signed the agreement for the two months as there was no time for discussion, we were at the final hearing. The only good thing about this is, when it happened, Arizona had just put an expungement law in place, and my conviction qualifies to get expunged. There is so much more that I can write but, I tried to keep it as short as possible. Please, if you’re considering him… reconsider! As some have mentioned, you’ll probably get a more favorable outcome, with a court appointed attorney!

I fully paid him $10,000. He is only interested in asking me to sign a stipulated agreement without explaining to me why there was a charge of money laundering case against me. He never discussed any possible defense I have. I then transferred the case to another attorney Bradley Rideout who then applied to the court and have the case dismissed without the necessity of a trial. When I asked for the bill and for refund of the money which I have paid him, he refused by lying to say that I never asked for termination of the agreement and he also lied to say that I never asked for the refund of any money owed to me. I with the help of a friend has reported him to the State Bar in Arizona. The State Bar is now conducting investigation into the matter.

Do not waste your time with this guy. The only time you will hear from him is when you owe money. He blames everything on his paralegals and they do not know their left from their right from what I experienced "I don't know what your talking about" is not something you want to hear from your attorney. I think he takes on DUI cases because they are cut and dry for him, personally I think he is on the police's side. These people who are indorsing him have obviously never used him.

I have known and worked with Terry Dunmire for years- decades, in fact. As a sole practitioner, he has tremendous experience in many areas of the law, including family, real estate and commercial law and litigation. Terry is a thoughtful and persevering lawyer who thinks through strategy and diligently prosecutes client matters. Among other matter, I retained Terry to structure the ownership and management of a real estate rental project. The work was done quickly and economically, with no trailing legal issues. Terry has flexible fee and compensation arrangements available for his clients. His services are very reasonably priced.

Every time we went to court, my ex had to pay 90% of atty fees. I had given Dunmire a retainer of $5,000 and after deducting the 10% of court and atty fees owed, I not only did not get a refund from the monies left over from the retainer, I received a bill for thousands more. In the end, I lost 9 years spousal support totally over $300,000 and he never even had the ethics to tell me. Do NOT hire this guy, you are in for nothing but heartache and Trouble.

Terry handled a contract dispute and counterclaim for my partner and I in 1999. It was a frivolous business sale contract/breach/fee for services suit. The original claim was based on the fact that I had invested in an llc that was under contract for sale and that investment constituted a sale and therefore a broker fee was due the listing agent. Pretty straightforward up til this point right? The plaintiff's attorney and the broker had been strong arming people in this manner for years. That is they would sue for fees even if no actual sale ever occurred. They had a horrible reputation and my partner wanted to hurt them. My partner was advised that they would settle for 25k, I offered to pay just to make this go away. But Terry told him that he could counter sue based on damages arising out of the original suit. He said that we had a case against the plaintiff because were not able to re-sell our business in a timely manner, it was a night club and we had a buyer who backed out because of the pending litigation. Terry convinced my partner that he could win huge, upwards of a half a million dollars, I remained very skeptical. Once we arrived in court however Terry's case was systematically dismissed piece by piece. Not by the arguments of the plaintiff's attorney, but by the judge!!. Finally the judge started to insult Terry, questioned where if ever he had studied. The spectators and witnesses were all laughing. Years later when Terry finally brought his fee dispute with me to arbitration the court reporter claimed that she still remembered the case because of all the laughing and said it was the worst she had seen in her 35 yr career. What could make this worse? After the judge had dismissed both sides cases against the other was the fees. Not only were they outrageous, nearly 90k, but under the manner the judge ruled Terry could have filed for re-reimbursement from the plaintiff but didn't!!!!! Yes you read that right. Terry continued to hound me for years, 8 yrs., before he finally got a lien on my property out of state. I had to pay Terry 20k to sell my home.

Perhaps Mr.Dolasinski and myself had a misunderstanding of what our needs were regarding our original trust. I was probably a little to critical of Mr. Dolasinski. Mr. Dolasinski wrote me back explaining what needed to be done. After reviewing his notes I do believe his assessment of what the actual cost would be are still to high. I would think since he is the individual who wrote our trust we would be give some consideration on the actual cost. The Health Care Power of Attorney and the Financial Power of Attorney In my estimation, to have his para legal do this work still would not require the amount of time he suggested. There still is only a couple of lines to be changed on these documents. In my opinion, I could see no more than 3 hours or less to perform these changes. I believe the total cost should be 3 hours or less. The top end of the actual cost should be $750 or less. Mr. Dolasinski is a capable professional and my review should not prevent clients from hiring him as a Trust Attorney. I am optimistic that we can come to a reasonable solution to take care of our trust.

I hired Howard to defend a criminal traffic ticket. Initially, he was rapid to respond and seemed interested in taking on my case. After he was hired and paid, it became extremely clear that he was only interested in taking my money. I had to initiate every call with him. Even after sending all relevant documents and speaking multiple times, he still did not know the facts of my case. It was clear that he was completely uninterested in defending me and my rights. In addition, he spoke to me completely condescendingly and refused to defend me on a charge related to the traffic ticket. I lost both because I did not have adequate representation. I am so disappointed I did not read his reviews prior to hiring him. Do not make the mistake I did. There are plenty of good attorneys out there and this is not one of them.

I would give this attorney zero if I could because of her ethics. She is willing to represent deadbeat parents who abandon their children.. She uses the law and the system to benefit them and encourages bad behavior to keep the case going. She bounces around from law firm the law firm having worked for several over the last eight years. This attorney does not care about right and wrong in my opinion. She is simply a tool of the industry that loves to recommend/encourage useless services and keep a case going. All to the detriment of all parties involved except for her pocketbook, of course.. I never talked to this attorney personally, but I know people who have worked with and against her, and it is all the same outcome. The divorce industry wins and the people lose.. if care about your children in a divorce steer clear from this attorney.

This lawyer never turned in ANY of my evidence, not a shred. She butchered my case, pretending to do her job to my face but really all she did was harm my case. I was innocent from day one and had black and white paper proof yet every single document I gave her didn't make it to the court room or any plc. This is not the end of this either, because of her misconduct many many bad situations had come up & they should have never been to begin with. If she had done her job things would have gone fine but she did not do her job and all it did was cause major turmoil & severe damage. Beware. This is not an attorney with the clients best interest at mind. She likes to please her friends in the court house, even if they are going up against her own clients! She did nothing I asked, filed no motions I needed and acted like she knew no better. Well she should know that what she did isn't ok. If she doesn't, she just might some day soon. I hope.

Unfortunately, I would not recommend hiring Ivy L. Kushner for your Family Law case. This past year was by far the most difficult and demanding year of my life. I hired Ms. Kushner to represent me in a custody case that I was subjected to. From day one Ms. Kushner appeared to be professional, compassionate and trustworthy. She listened to my case details and appeared to have a real understanding of what I would be up against. She also took the initiative to come to my house for our initial consultation. After a few weeks, and once the retainer fee had been cleared, it was clear to me that her only interest was to settle the case and not provide services that was in the best interest for me and my daughter. During the original conference, the topic of back child support came up. As I had already provided her with the calculations and breakdown of how much was owed, she was more than aware that back child support was due. When the topic was brought up in the meeting, she asked my ex and his attorney to leave the room. She then turned to me and said, “sit down, and shut up.” I am still in disbelief of the lack of professionalism displayed from that comment. Those words have stuck with me to this day. It made an already difficult situation that much worse. I was extremely open with her about the domestic abuse that occurred throughout the relationship, which ultimately left me with no choice but to move my daughter and myself out of the toxic environment. However, she completely disregarded it. With this understanding, greater detail should have been put into place to protect not only myself, but my daughter as well. Due to the abundance of mistakes throughout the document and severe lack of attention to detail, it not only has caused significant issues, but the financial burden it has caused in order to fix the document is incomparable. I felt forced to sign a document that I clearly was not comfortable with. I presented Ms. Kushner with a red line document highlighting everything that I did not agree to. Rather than taking the time to address my concerns, it was clear the main objective was to close the case and move on. I understand there is an emotional barrier that occurs over the years in this profession, however the outcome not only effect the next 13 years of my daughter’s life, it effects my life every single day. I do not believe she had our best interest in mind. I am now finding myself going through this extremely difficult and stressful situation once again to correct the mistakes. I hired Ms. Kushner because I do not know the law and needed guidance on the legal aspects of my case. I hold a high level of expectation for someone with her level of experience, both ethically and professionally – I feel as though I did not receive either. I just wanted to take a moment to provide feedback from my experience because I do not want this to happen to another single mom.

Allyson was responsible for planning my father's estate and trust. It was a mess. She had him leave an inherited IRA within the trust - after talking to tax attorneys I found out that this is a big problem as it was for me... She knew for 59 days that they needed to send letters to known creditors but didn't ask for the death certificate until the day that the letters were suppose to go out. She won't let you know that there are things that you can do yourself, she would rather have the paralegals bill over $250 an hour to carry out simple things like mailing multiple copies of documents to beneficiaries. She could provide a simple list of things that the trustee could carry out if they wanted to preserve assets - or that they could do for you if you have cash to burn - but she is just in it to get the most she can from the estate. Stay away.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
