John was instrumental in helping my wife and I get the help we needed after an auto accident that left my wife with a broken neck. From the beginning, John was thorough and explained step by step the process and how it would all work. I can' t say enough about how dedicated John and his secretary, Cheryl are in working for the client. Not only are they professional and know their stuff, but they are very caring people as well. I would not hesitate to recomment this team to anyone.

The beginning I met Mr. Patterson he presented himself in a professional, friendly and courteous manner . He helped give me a understanding of the whole process that I went through and was helpful in answering any questions. The outcome was a favorable one and I thank him for everything. I will not hesitate in giving him a call if I ever need his services again!

I hired Chris Bryant to help me with my Will and to do some Estate work. He was very considerate of all my needs and never seemed like he was in a hurry to "get to the next client". He always answered my phone calls or emails promptly, and my appointments at his office were always on time. I would highly recommend Chris Bryant for any attorney needs.

Chris Bryant represented me recently on a public intoxication & speeding charge. This was my first exposure to the criminal court system & Chris made the experience as painless as it possibly could have been. His communication with me throughout the process was consistent and informative. Chris displayed great skill in the courtroom and his rates were extremely reasonable. I credit Chris for the favorable outcome of my case and highly recommend him if you are in need of a criminal defense attorney.

In searching for an attorney for my uncontested divorce, I wanted to find one that would ensure that I would be represented well but also would keep the process civil. Robin understood that from the beginning. She listened to my wants and needs and took over from there. I can't possibly imagine the process going any smoother. She helped me finish the last chapter of my life and start the next one, and she made it all look easy. Highly recommend for an uncontested divorce!

Robin was absolutely amazing. She took the extra time working on my case when she didn’t have to, she went the extra mile to make sure all my questions were met, responded in a timely manner, always gave me her honest opinion, sat down and related to my situation, calmed me down when I was feeling frustrated or overwhelmed, I always saw her best effort. I wouldn’t recommend using any other attorney. She’s seriously the best attorney I could’ve asked for.

My case took a year & a half but she kept fighting til we got the win. Robin was a teddy bear to me & a beast in court. I could tell she cared a lot about my daughter & was looking out for me. I was charged a flat rate & she never changed the price or charged me more. I only saw her get bitchy when someone was acting out. i think she's great.

I would highly recommend this law firm. Blain did an amazing job with my divorce case and a criminal case where I was looking at jail time and thanks to him all I got was a fine. They are very respectful and they always return my phone calls and would email me of any updates. I will definitely use this law firm in the future!

DO NOT USE THIS LAW FIRM. They have refused to answer emails and phone calls. They were hired over 2 years ago for a family custody battle and there has not been one single court date setup. This is absolutely heart wrenching when you put your faith and all your finances into someone that you should be able to trust to put your children's needs above all else. There has not been one single thing done on this case. I hope I can help save someone else from having to go through this horrific situation. This law firm should be absolutely ashamed and embarrassed by their actions or lack there of. Do not give a family your word and then just scam them out of money and watch them suffer. Absolutely appalling.

He represented my son , charged me $8500.00 to do so and would not got to trials d sent his under dog to court when was the one hired to represent my son, then they convinced my son to say he was guilty to all the charges and it's not right to not at least investigate the charges . Instead Clay might as well been prosecuting my son there was no defence .

When I initially spoke with Clay he seemed interested in taking my case if I were to be charged and also said he would call me if a warrant was put out for my arrest so that I could turn myself in. He never called so I was arrested unexpectedly. I called him several times to set up appointments and he nor his secretary called back. They could have at least called to let me know that he was no longer interested in my case or was too busy to take it on. Either way I feel like the situation was handled unprofessionally.

Lied, took so long to submit papers to court that they had to request a response on if the case was still ongoing, didn't submit evidence, didn't subpoena the investigator in my child's assault case which was requested by the judge (as per what we were told), botched the adoption, and all around screwed us over, took our money, demanded more money, and never provided me with my files that I requested when we figured out we had been had.

Stay away from this attorney, she is unprofessional and also negligent in her duties as an attorney. I caught her flirting and cozying up to my ex while supposedly representing my case against him. She does a pathetic job in court and it’s very sad this person is so unprepared in a court situation. If possible I would have given her zero stars. Worst attorney I’ve ever dealt with. Absolutely recommend Avoiding this attorney.

What a professional and wise attorney. She represented our grandson in a divorce case recently and did an outstanding job! Kindness and understanding as well as attentiveness to details make her one of the best attorneys around. I'd recommend her to anyone and retain her services again if needed.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
