I hired Mr. Lam for my immigration application. He impressed me with his familiarity of immigration law and he is very responsible. He sincerely serves his client’s interests and tries his best to help you. When I had any questions about my case, he always responded to me quickly. He also gave me tips and information about immigration matters and other laws. He is a reliable attorney, and I highly recommended him for your immigration case.

Called to ask about my sister, she's trying to take custody and rights away. Without actual a judge,, court action, and legal papers being sent and signed properly. Wouldn't speak to me about the steps to take to help my sister set things straight. Instead hung up on me and was also angry and somewhat yelling at me when speaking. Very rude and very upsetting as a child and a family member my niece is involved. This child's life is being played with by her father and this unprofessional attorney. Way to stick up for the mother, who is completely innocent and cannot afford an attorney to fight back.

Even with video evidence she still lost my case. Never made a opening statement, does the bare minimum then leaves you hanging absolute disgrace to the justice system. Told me I had a peaceful contact Oder come to find out she was wrong. Cost me everything for a crime I never committed!!!

My case was given to Danika months ago and she never responded to any of my messages, calls or emails. Unfortunately I had to file the case myself!! She doesn't even have correct names of the defendents. What a complete waste of public tax dollar.

Had great initial meeting. Discussed issues. Had been promised to have issues reviewed and get back with solutions. Didn't follow the deadline. It feels like she is getting things done at the last minute and as the result, suggests to just ignore issue instead of dealing with it.

He didn't even inform me of when my case was going in front of the judge. Extremely disapointed. Gave me bad advice and told me I'd be paid first. Was incorrect about that. Overall bad experience.

As acting Senior Counsel for the Washington State Bar Association Ms. Matsumoto wrote me saying that an investigator would be assigned my case and would contact me. No one contacted me as my investigator - so I waited. Later I recieved her decision, without investigation, other than her reading my complaint and corresponding w/ the attorneys I was complaining about. I appealed and asked to speak with the Review Board but she said that I wasn't allowed. So much for an alleged unbiased grienance process. Its the fox guarding the chicken coop.

I hired Todd Williams at Corr Cronin in Seattle Washington and it was a absolute disaster. He sold me on paying a larger retainer fee and then proved to be totally incompetent. He also missed a court deadline for an appearance and caused a default judgment to be entered. Avoid this Attorney and firm at all costs. They are just in it for the money.

Mr. McLean was hired to handle a construction case and completely dropped the ball, communication wise. On several occasions, calls went unanswered. I was left hanging, unaware the person I had entrusted to handle my case was busy pursuing other, bigger financial pursuits. In the end, I found myself finding another attorney to handle my case. I guess the bottom line here was: dismal results.

Spent over $100k with this firm and a month after we finally send a demand letter. Our main counsel loses his license to practice law in WA. We were never communicated this is issue. To top off the money grab they charged us $5k for work never approved and to switch counsel to someone we never hired. They charged us to research how to switch counsel!! Like wtf! The firm is only about billable hours and zero accountability. I had a deadline on the same day I asked him about our next deadline and he gave me the wrong date. We missed 2 deadlines. Stay away unless you like to burn money.

Charlene Hamblen, Taffi Wheeldon, and Misty, you need to make them pay, or God is going to get ya. I mailed appeal 1/15/2020, Corona walked off a plane in Seattle, my hometown same day. How much of WA burned last year this time? Do you want God to fry you George? Make you drop "mysteriously " like my defendant Daryl Shuey, sheriff who's death is Not investigated? Might wanna do a better job than you have been doing George. Also, when phone doesn't answer? I put you under a bus in a public way. September 3rd you really want to avoid. I'm kinda looking forward to it. Get 20-35106 paid along with the other, or God's going to spank you, not me, God. Those spankings hurt, I Know! Call me, better yet, collect money from all my defendants, and deliver.. 10th ave E, do I pay the $260 for the lien? Noncompliance of contract. Law is a contract. You and your clients are not following the rules of law in my country, in my state. Make a wiser choice George

He came recommended, but I found that the referrer had not used before. I found out the hard way that the firm was not organized, detail focused, or sensitive to costs. Three to four times the estimate later, a marginal package of legal docs prepared. Charged full rate for time with a paralegal. Really felt like he preys on the special needs misfortune. Starting over with another firm

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
