Aaron could’ve fought for my daughter and instead he did what any public defender would do and took a deal. He could’ve easily beat it in trial. It was easier to take the deal and she got stuck doing some jail time and three years probation instead.

I would like to start off by first just saying Thank you Aaron Kimsey. My son has not ever been in any trouble at all until last year. This was the most challenging year of my life after discovering my son has mental health issues and was arrested. Like any parent I was in tears also worried and did not know what to do. All I could think about was my son sitting in jail. I thought of one person who I knew that could help my son. That person is Aaron Kimsey and his wonderful team. I want to personally thank you for all of the phone calls you made on my son's behalf, all of the long hours you put into his case and of course the amazing job you always did in court and winning the case. I also want to thank your whole team for all the phonecalls reminding us of upcoming court dates and answering any questions we had. Most of all I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the understanding of my son's mental health issues. You spoke to him calmly and assured him everything would be okay. You also went beyond what anyone else would have done and that was answering your phone all hours of the night when he just needed someone to talk to (other than a parent). That truly takes someone special to take the time to talk to him until he was calm and reassuring once again that every thing was going to be okay. I appreciate you and will forever be grateful for everything you have done for my son. I recomend Aaron Kimsey to anyone who needs a great hardworking defense attorney. Aaron you truly are the best. Thank you once again I will not ever forget your kindness.

I called Charles about two things initially: bankruptcy and divorce. Ended up hiring him to be my divorce attorney. Couldn’t have picked a better person. Charles is extremely intelligent, kind and was quick to respond to any and all questions. I hope to never need him again but I’d sure as heck recommend him to anyone looking for the legal services he provides.

I hired him in 2015, he would not listen to any of my suggestions - (I had been a paralegal for 27 years) He wrote a letter to defendants without a deadline date or a date to get back with him regarding any type of settlement. He said one thing and did another. Seemed only to be concerned with him getting paid and not wanting to hurt the other side's feelings. I would not recommend him at all unless you want to lose and spend a great deal of your own money.

I don't understand the judicial system but Scott was very patient and understanding with me and explained everything to my level of understanding. It took a long time to get to a settlement. We didn't get what the Judge awarded not once but twice. Threatening to file Bankruptcy really put us in a corner. Scott always took my calls uneven on days he wasn't in the office. Thank you Scott, Debbie and Tena.

I am an attorney in California. I have business interests in Eastern Tennessee that require me to hire a local attorney from time to time. Scott Hall has been my attorney for over 10 years and always done an excellent job for me. He has always been responsive, demonstrated good knowledge of the law, has been very practical and, above all else, has been a pleasure to deal with. Being an attorney myself I know what an attorney should do, how they should act, and how they should treat clients. In my opinion, Scott Hall is an excellent attorney and I highly recommend him!

I was kept out of the loop on the majority of my case. I had to call A LOT to find out what was going on and then treated most of the time like I was not important, on more than 1 occassion I was told that she was busy and that even her asst. was busy and would call me back it would be days even once a month and a half before my phone call was returned. We get to the end of my case where she needed to file some very important papers to void leins on our possessions so they couldn't come take our things and to be able to close the case and they lost my files that they needed to file these things and called us saying we had them and we didn't, we were never given anything back except a schedule of our court proceedings, then her asst. says to me I know you have them I just think your husband didn't understand what I was looking for like he was stupid so I got my file I had and took it to her and low and behold she saw that we didn't have them. When I called after about 2-3 weeks of waiting for her to find my papers and asked if they had been found yet her asst. got an attitude with me and said look I am working on an "URGENT" file right now and when I get done with it I'll go back to looking for your papers, like it was no big deal, like my case wasn't important and I was bothering her to be concerned about my case. How do you lose your clients paperwork ? Irresponsible and incompetent !!!!!!!!

I hired Mr. Wilson in a family court case that came up unexpected after reading a few positive online reviews. That's why I am writing this so no one will have the same problems. In consultation he spoke of how he believed it would go and quoted a price that would retain plenty of hours allow him to have time to accomplish it as lawyers do. I gladly paid in full thankful for all the work he spoke of to provide the best he could. Preliminary day came and he was gathering the right information in notes to accomplish his agenda. After speaking with me the court granted a no contact order on my behalf until we returned to court. The weeks between that day and court it was violated multiple times with malicious intent. The courts instructed that I contact my lawyer about the violation. I left multiple voicemails, text& emails to no avail for 3 weeks. Three days before court he responds through message to confirm court. Mr. Wilson had left directly after preliminary for 3 weeks vacation completely unreachable until court. I had paid quite a handsome retainer gladly because I needed his time and services. I was left with no counsel when the order was violated repeatedly. When I asked him for an itinerary as to what he had prepared Mr. Wilson had not pursued anything in preparation in the least. Everyone deserves uninterrupted vacation. I just feel strongly he should have been forthcoming about his schedule, not accepted a pricey retainer for his time that would be spent completely vacationing. If he had I could have obtained other counsel that could have prepared work on my case with the many hours I retained from him instead of vacationing on them only to show for thirty minute court session with only "playing it by ear" as his agenda in a life altering case for me. This is a caution for anyone who has a case that needs counsel you can trust to do the footwork only lawyers can do in the legal system to accomplish your needs. Especially if the lack of diligence could yield results that not only fail the client but their loved ones also.

David Webb handled a misdemeanor case for me. After paying 1500 and traveling all the way to Tennessee, he had my case taken under advisement. This judgement is neither guilty nor not guilty. It is meant to be that way so the individual has to pay another fee ( $500) to have the case expunged. I called David and his secretary was uncaring and rude to me. David said he would have a judge sign a paper and have my case listed as dismissed or non pros. He never seemed to get around to doing anything and now I still have an open case in Tennessee. He doesn't seem to like out of towners because after my case he made a rude remark about not visiting the area again. Wish I had taken my business elsewhere.

He will not communicate with client unless your sitting in the office being charged, but will send you an occasional letter telling you he advised you when he hasn't. Will not respond to certified letters. Schedules mediation and court dates without informing you. Likes to schedule them when you've notified him in advance that your unavailable for certain dates. It took 6 months to get a copy of a modification request that he drafted for me. That was to be sent to the other party. Eventhough I reviewed it and had to fix his screw ups stating facts in the request during an office visit. I was charged an additional .5 hrs for him to redraft and fix errors in the original. Did not respond to a certified letter requesting a copy of the documents and response of contempt sent by opposing attorney. I only knew about the contempt allegations, because the opposing parting told me that they had be sent months ago. Legal assistant continiously lies about mailing out documentation. It took over 3 months to get papers served to the opposing parties. However a bill for services found it's way with no trouble; even though he has not did the one thing he was retained to do. I did not recieve my mediation dates in writing until I showed up at his office one day prior to mediation. I was told that it was mail out, but I never got it in the mail. During mediation he scheduled it so that if it took over two hours he had to leave. Really! Left his client in the middle of mediation to take care of personal business. The mediator did not attempt to rule on a decision, but deffered to give options which were all speculations of possibilities not the facts which were in front of him that showed just cause and burden of proof. So that was another $200.00 spent for nothing. Did I meantion I recieved a bill for just shy of $1000.00 even though I've already paid $1500.00. Heres the kicker if I don't pay with my court date coming up in a few months. Will I be standing there without a laywer. He has not even attempted to propose a settlement with the correct income to the opposing parties, but sits around waiting on them to propose to him. Reminder here I retained him to modify a child support obligation that showed a decrease in income of over 40%. You only need 15% to legally do this. On top of that he tells me that if I use the state to do it. That's it would be my ace in the hole and to save money and attorney fees I should just settle on something. Even though all the numbers preposed are speclative of possible income that could be made. But when pay charts and income made up to this point are shown as facts they are ignored. Every facts supporting document that has been requested has been provided. Income made and base pay charts provided. So where's my lawyer for my lawyer? If your smart enough to review facts before committing. Run now here's strike three on this guy. Find someone else; anyone else!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?

  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
