I consulted with Ms. Tucker several years ago regarding a horrible divorce I am still going through. I had an attorney at the time but needed advice as he was pretty much MIA (never hire a "flat-fee" attorney, once they have your money they disappear). As I am currently going through paperwork for an appeal to the appellate division, I remembered how Ms. Tucker's advice helped me protect my meagre savings from my soon to be ex-husband/vulture who took everything else from me. I wish I could have hired Ms. Tucker, but she was not available and so I stayed with the flat-fee attorney who pretty much destroyed my life. Unfortunately I still have to remain anonymous as my case is dragging on, but I highly recommend Ms. Tucker, and if she were an appeals attorney, I would be hiring her asap!

my divorce case begin 2012 the person I am divorcing a capable husband who probably made the proceeding unusually long and near impossible. I had five lawyers before Ms.Tucker and she is by far the best lawyer. Ms.Tucker have made the record to my case that was obstructed beyond recognition by officials. without Ms.Tucker dedication to monster motions , brief sized never to forget to prepare you for higher court. the most intelligent legal writer and exhibits queen. She gave all others lawyers something to read about.... the guardian ad litem still having " paranoia" episodes each time she hearing Ms.Tucker name . as I am now on appellate court with the very record of Ms.Tucker who set my side of the story for my current lawyer now taking appeal. without her I would have none. Ms.Tucker is more than a lawyer she is a friend , she has business degree in fiancées , she is loyal , her creative legal writing are far epic than anyone I retained before and she is cool , calm and collective. as I feel I can fairly say with certainty after having six lawyers within all cost and rates. she is reasonably on costs and with broad understanding interests and practiced different areas of law. (" lucky me")

We hired Victor for the purchase and sale (four years later) of our apartment in Sunnyside. Victor is personable, attentive, and professional. My wife and I had a great experience working with him. He went the extra mile every time. Very reasonable fees. Highly recommended!

I was looking for a family attorney for my child support and custody in NY. I cannot afford much so I was looking in the internet for 'affordable' attorneys. I was calling attorneys for the free consultation they had advertised on their website. Well as many of you know, they are not free. If they do talk to you, they will talk to you very little but tell you to come in to see them so there goes the free part. When I came across Ms. Crawley's name, I had just about given up. Thank goodness that I didn't. She actually gave me a free consultation on the phone that took almost an hour with no charge. She was very knowledgeable and very well spoken on the phone. When I met her, it was the same thing. I knew that she would be the one that would be representing me. In the beginning, what caught my eye was that she was really affordable than all the rest-- BELIEVE ME! But when I started dealing and working with her, she has the best work ethic. I can email her at anytime and sure to get a response right away. If she is not able to respond right away, she wlll let you know or explain later. She is always easily contacted on the phone too! When I leave a message, I always get a call back the same day. The best part about it is is that she doesn't charge you for every phone call, email, stamp, etc that the other lawyers do. I cannot say enough about Ms. Crawley. I have already been with her to court twice and came out successful. She knows what she is doing and she knows the law. I would definitely reccomend her to anyone that needs a family attorney. You will not be sorry!

Highly Recommended!!!! Mr. Pasang was so helpful, respectful, knowledgeable attorney. I could have easily given 10 stars if I could. My wife got her green card within 9 months. He explained the whole application process thoroughly. He is always available and finds time for meeting in person if we need any assistance. I am thoroughly satisfied with the amount of effort he put on my wife’s case. I would definitely recommend Lhachoepa Law Offices to everyone who is seeking for immigration assistance. Besides great service, the fee they charge is also very reasonable compare to other law firm. Once again, thank you so much Pasang for all you great work that you provided on my wife’s case.

The receptionist was nice and seemed more interested in my case than the lawyer. Andrew seemed annoyed as I explained my situation. I did not receive much help,it was a complete waste of time. He didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I guess this place is only useful if you need to get your documents in order.

When I meet John Garzon I was in custody of the immigration and customs enforcement because of a prior drug case I had any years ago. Mr. Garzon represented me at the immigration court and I was immediately released by the immigration judge and my immigration case was terminated. I continued to have Mr. Garzon represent me and today I am a united states citizen thanks to the work that Mr. Garzon did for me. I am so thankful for his representation and I can honestly say that he basically saved my life.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
